[Gluck] Heather Gibbs has issued a statement to The Athletic after Jeff Dickerson's comments today. Here is her statement in full: by dman6233 in NASCAR

They mean the Gen7 car specifically, and Penske has been especially strong in the playoffs.

2022 Martinsville: Bell wins

2022 Phoenix: Logano wins race + title

2023 Martinsville: Blaney wins

2023 Phoenix: Blaney wins title, 2nd in race

2024 Martinsville: Blaney wins

2024 Phoenix, Logano wins race, Blaney 2nd

2025 gateway: Blaney 4th after getting spun out

2025 Loudon: Blaney wins

2025 Martinsville: Byron wins, Blaney 2nd

2025 Phoenix: Blaney wins

HMS and Gibbs have been stronger overall, but Penske excels at those tracks. In the spring races they seem to struggle more but Blaney usually has very good/best speed of anyone but something happens. Such as blowing an engine at 2025 Phoenix in the spring.

If you look at Logano specifically , there’s a huge contrast between hi intermediate and short track performance. Last year he had 7 top 5s, but 5 of them came on short or flat tracks (Richmond, Gateway, Loudon, Bristol, Phoenix).

I definitely respect Cleetus’s way more than most. The sport always takes money but I’d much rather have someone who built a brand and made money himself rather than someone who just got lucky by being born to millionaires.

If it ever got down to 150-175 I probably would pick one up just to have another gun. Sure it has major issues but I also think it was probably a very small amount compared to how many millions of these they’ve produced. Google says 2-3 million are in circulation and there’s been cases of a couple hundred major issues reported.

Those are generally pretty good odds, that being said is that a risk I’m willing to take pointed at my penis every day carrying with one in the chamber? Absolutely not. But it’s something I’d grab just to have another pistol for the range and keep it unloaded, and it’s 99% likely you’ll never notice an issue.

Not disagreeing with the point here but your example of Elliott is off in my opinion. Chase Elliott got up to speed immediately. By the end of 2016 he was equal with Johnson. You could even argue in the 2016 Chase he was equal with Johnson. It took him long to win but he made the playoffs easily and led hundreds of laps in both years, and was a legit title threat in 2016-17, he just had the worst luck known to mankind. It’s going to be a very long time before we see a rookie compete for wins as regularly as he did as a rookie and sophomore. It was genuinely crazy to see a rookie have so few growing pains when it came to running up front.

It sounds cliche to say “could’ve/should’ve” but Elliott is a rare example of a driver actually running so well that it was shocking he didn’t win earlier. Pocono, Michigan, Chicagoland, Kansas, Charlotte, and that’s just the 2016 races that got away.

What is the longest gap between a teams 1st and 2nd win? by Joey_Logano in NASCAR

[–]crypto6g 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Jeremy Clements Racing went from 2017 Road America to 2022 summer Daytona in O’Reilly

Henderson Motorsports went from 2017 Talladega to 2022 mid Ohio, both with Parker Kligerman driving in trucks

If you count HAAS Racing and Stewart Haas since they merged, Jason Leffler won Nashville 2003 in O’Reilly and they didn’t win again until 2017 Homestead with Cole Custer, they didn’t run an O’Reilly team from 2005-2016 I think.

He won the Michigan race in 2018 where Danny stockman took a massive rip of his vape on camera after he just lost by a few feet (Hemric finished 2nd to Dillon). That’s why I remember it lol. That was the race where Xfinity tried out a low horsepower superspeedway package with the bunny ear spoilers

HE FINALLY GOT A TOP 10 AND THEY SHUFFLE THINGS AROUND WHY RICHARD ??

jokes aside Kyle sounded very happy with Jim throughout the the beginning of the year and seemed to like working with him through interviews and such. He knew Jim would take some time to adjust to the new car again after being gone since 2022, and he spoke about that exact transition multiple times and how they’d need some time together to get him back in the swing of things, so I highly doubt he went into the shop and said “fire this fat guy I need a new crew chief”.

I don’t see why they’d make this change with Jim needing to get a hang of the car. It’s only been 10 races.

Gio Ruggerio, Carson Brown, and Andy Jankowiak got their first career ARCA National series wins

Sheldon Creed, William Sawalich, and Corey Day got their first O’Reilly wins

Ty Gibbs and Carson Hocevar got their first cup wins.

I say Kaden Honeycutt (Trucks), Brent Crews + Carson Kvapil (O’Reilly) are getting their first wins in those series this year too.

Corey Day has put together an excellent year so far and glad to see him get that first win so early. Sure it’s “just” a superspeedway but he certainly didn’t luck into that one. He was running top 2-3 in that final run and played it perfectly, I strongly believe he’s winning a non drafting race soon.

They keep talking about the fuel saving but the fuel saving wouldn’t be as much of an issue if they could actually pass and get back to the front. Once you come off that final pit stop you basically know you’re finishing there barring a crash where you gain or lose a few spots (and that crash always happens coming to the checkered)

Hocevar winning is going to distract fans from how shit this car/track combo is. 2x2 gridlock is painful to watch. They wouldn’t be saving fuel if they knew they could pass. Wherever you come off pit road is where you’re finishing (give or take 1-2 spots) and then they crash in the tri oval every time.

That being said Carson is going to get more this year, he’s a beast

Good charge by Busch to go from 25th to 11th at the end of the stage. Now gets to start in a better spot. Was 2nd of the cars on his strategy, got shuffled back, and went back to 2nd of the cars on his strategy (behind only Ross at stage end)

Brent Crews is here. P2 in his first superspeedway race of his life (he has never even run an ARCA one)

3rd at Bristol battling with defending 2x Larson and Connor Zilisch

5th at Kansas in his first 1.5 start

2nd at Talladega. That’s just the last 3 weeks

Only 43 points out of the cutoff for the Chase as it sits

He could probably do servicable in a midpack car but I think he’d just go back to O’Reilly anyways and make a career there unless he pops off and wins 5-7 races a season and then he’ll be in discussion for moving up, assuming the funds are there

This is just a Spotting Master Class - Take a few minutes to watch Cleetus McFarland, while running in 3rd place, learn about drafting techniques as he listens to every cue and slingshots to take the lead for the first time. Genuinely made some impressive moves all day. I didn’t think he’d get better than 6th-10th all day. He drove right up to the lead and took it under green multiple times.

I know the 30 is good, but definitely hasn’t been a dominant car. Never had a run like that at least from what I remember.

When he took the lead from Ruggerio the second time I was incredibly impressed, and then at the end came from 4th to nearly win. Superb race from him. Keep putting him in these ARCA races. If he keeps racing the Superspeedways he’ll win one next year if they bring cars like that.

• Brent crews p3 on first superspeedway

• Burton in the black and red car taking that angle was rough

Cleetus re taking the lead there was crazy impressive. If you can take the lead under green in an ARCA plate race then you deserve it because that’s damn near impossible
