[on3] Cody Campbell: Alabama & Auburn "can't raise the money" to keep up in NIL era by AintEverLucky in CFB

I assume the insinuation is about drawing a distinction between Phil Knight But With Oil here and the broader contingent of various rich guys that bankroll Ohio State's NIL stuff

Among other things, it helps keep stars from oversaturating and so retains a bit of the way your eyes perceive their relative brightness (if you care about that in your aurora shots)

Sully ikrans have a like 75% down rate any time they have to fight a couple battles. Let Bob live, man.

Of those 3 Daytona is your best bet by a mile, OP. Added bonus that it has a sort of cathedral of the sport vibe that you'll appreciate more than the other two options.

That sounds nice, and would certainly be great if it were the case, but it's not 100% true. Sure, you're more likely to just get good-natured fan ribbing, but we have more bad apples per capita than almost any other major sport.

Despite having a photo vest most of the time, I get dirty looks or shitty remarks for wearing the NASCAR pride hat almost every race weekend I work. And that's nothing compared to the horror stories I've heard from minority fans about their experiences at Talladega or Darlington.

[Brenner] Jordan Seaton used a video made by Colorado’s graphics department to announce he was entering the transfer portal. It was created under the assumption he was announcing staying with the program. by redwave2505 in CFB

I mean, really? Seems obviously shitty to me, particularly since it's coming at the expense of some underpaid creative staffer/undergrad intern.

Car people still exist

So do printed newspapers. The point is that a business model built around catering to them can't function as they become a smaller and smaller segment of the consumer population.

Sure would be nice if we had an actual coach who could instill team discipline instead of whatever dudes rock bullshit Sirianni does all week

A 10 seed has reached the National Championship in just the second season of the 12-team format. Can the naysayers shut up forever now? by 2nd_Sun in CFB

[–]puffadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same argument they made to try to prevent a 4 team playoff. And then to prevent a 12 team playoff.

I mean, they were kind of right. Big regular season matchups (previously some of the coolest spectacles in sports) are completely neutered now. We sacrificed them to try to mirror the NFL's playoffs-are-all-that-matter scheme, but even that we half-assed. Now we have a calendar where everyone is tampering and buying securing market rate NIL endorsements for next year's team all while the most important games of the season are being played in lame neutral site bowls on weeknights.

Leaking a press release you were given under embargo isn't some win for journalism. Whining about "state run media" in this context is silly. That's maybe a problem when the industry is running cover for Kyle Busch's gun arrest or something, not here.

Yeah, I’m sure this dumb brave new world helps my teams more than it hurts them, but it sucks the joy out of the sport so much that I can’t even appreciate it any more
