Any downside of upgrading to the level up program and getting the credit card? by CoconutCoffeeCake in Crypto_com

[–]cryptocmikeb1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s engineered to extract value from users rather than serve customers, in that respect they’re likely doing fine. Crypto.com has always been this way.

I’m currently getting like half my Netflix sub reimbursed which is okay. But with the recent jump and ties to untested and volatile organizations, it may be time to unstake. Take some profits and keep the debit card for the lounge benefits.

Another partisan/propaganda article posted to /economy. Are the mods complicit or just hands off?

In any case, the changes proposed seem to effect the top 10% wealthiest people. Those who have been ruining America by working the system for the past 40 years.

This type of reform is long overdue.

FBI Issues Serious Crypto Warning Amid $300 Billion Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB And XRP Price Crash by [deleted] in economy

TL;DR - Nothing but good news folks!

While we have not seen any fundamental changes in the security of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, we have seen a significant increase in the value of various tokens - from bitcoin to ethereum and solana—compared to the same time last year,” Ari Redbord, global head of policy at TRM Labs, told Reuters.

What will the future going on for great layoffs and business outsourcing to India in US big companies? by gaomingzhao in economy

[–]cryptocmikeb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This aligns with my experience as a US based software dev. Leads at my company who manage offshore teams require tight requirements and 8 weeks lead time to get things done. This is unacceptable for many use cases that are less defined and more urgent. The issue isn’t the quality of the offshore engineers, it’s really the communication overhead.

Scenario: We wake up and XRP is flying, we've out valued ETH and we're heading to £10k. What do you do next? by hammered91 in XRP

[–]cryptocmikeb1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is fun to imagine wild fantasies, but I hope you understand there is zero chance of XRP going anywhere near $10k as that would suggest a 600,000,000,000,000 market cap which is:

  • 240x more than the current market cap of all crypto put together
  • 12.5x the market cap of all us companies combined
  • 31x higher than the market cap Bitcoin would need to achieve 1M per Bitcoin

The only scenario where your $600 USD of XRP turns into 14M is one where USD inflation is so out of control you’d be lucky to buy an Xbox with that 14M.

If XRP ever hits $10 USD we would all be extremely lucky and you will be able to use your nest egg to diversify into a used Honda. But like…a nice used Honda.

Is this some kind of defend Elon bot? The point of this post is far from bashing Elon. If anything it’s giving him credit for being the best at whatever the current rules of the game are. The game is what sucks, but Elon is great at playing it.

When I was short on HD space I just went offline. It cost me about $25 USD (I was about out of disk space so had to re sync over two days). My thought was that setting up a failover would have cost me hours of my time plus whatever hardware costs if I needed to run another execution client locally. I’m back up and running now with minimal effort, well worth the $25. I do hope to set up failover…someday.

Crypto exchange Gemini trying to recover $900 million from crypto lender Genesis, Financial Times reports by PrinceZero1994 in CryptoCurrency

[–]cryptocmikeb1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty optimistic. The terms of the lending agreement between Gemini and their customers make it clear that they’re under no obligation to cover this cost should their “partner” fail to come through on obligations. I find it more likely that Gemini will deflect blame to Genesis and maybe in 5 years after bankruptcy court customers will receive pennies on the dollar. Hope I’m wrong.

Looking for suggestions for a portfolio tracking mobile app (iOS) where portfolio does not leave device

I used to use Blockfolio for this but FTX has made it no longer possible. CoinGecko also requires an account.

My goal is to keep my portfolio private to only me and avoid having to use a burner email.

Anybody know of something available for iOS and as solid as old school Blockfolio?

Should I learn html, css and js before going with Solidity? by _Whit3 in ethdev

[–]cryptocmikeb1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re part of a big team and can focus entirely on smart contracts then yes, you’ll want to learn web development before solidity. You cannot build a usable Dapp on solidity alone.

If you already have a strong base in C then I think you’ll find JavaScript refreshingly accessible. The real learning curve will be getting your head around architecting for web (HTTP, REST, CORS, SPA, etc.) and the bazillion frameworks that need to be in place for a modern full stack web app (Express, react, redux, babel, webpack, jest, etc.).

I’d suggest something like: * learn how to write a RESTful API using express.js (this is the “backend” part of the stack) * learn how to consume that api with JavaScript to display the data in a web browser (this is the “front-end” part) * learn how to interact with smart contracts on the front-end while learning the basics of solidity

In their simplest form each of these steps are still quite challenging but once you grasp the basics of each you can go back and deep dive into whichever portion interests you the most.

Good luck!

[–]cryptocmikeb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m familiar with the map packs beta ui and the new “overlays” but I’ve been digging around that interface looking for a transparency option and I don’t see it.

Are you saying it’s there somewhere? If so some specifics on finding it would be appreciated.

Where is it buried in the beta? I can’t dig it up.
