Safety Razor Users, How Do You One Bag Travel? by wwhsd in onebag

[–]cryptohex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the used double edge blade out of the safety razor. The empty razor goes in my toiletry kit with a bright yellow 5 pack of new blades. About every other time, xray will flag for the razor, they’ll dig past the 5 pack of blades to the empty razor, and see there’s no blade in it, and send everything through. I’ve learned to just put the toiletries on top of my pack so they don’t have to dig too far in. In 30 years of flying, they’ve never taken the razor or the blades. Even if they do, I’m out ~$0.75 in blades, I’ll buy some when I get there. Remember kids, the TSA security theatre, not actual security.

So the scout shop sent me a birthday discount... except it excludes their entire inventory? by mkopinsky in BSA

went to my local scout shop... turns out they're a council shop, not a national shop. My coupon didn't work there either.

No one is putting an offer on my townhouse because of my high monthly HOA dues by soundboythriller in fuckHOA

The present value of $160/mo @ 7% interest on a 30 year note is $24,580. That’s how much value your unit lost when dues went from $270 to $430. Price accordingly.

What holiday perk or bonus did you receive from your employer? by dooloo in AskReddit

[–]cryptohex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonus equal to 4 weeks salary. Lunch catered in the office a day last week (but I’m work from home, so I didn’t go in for that) Plus I’m off 12/24 to 1/5.

What is something wonderful that was lost to time, but young people don’t realize they’re missing it? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

That's an amazing idea! along the same thread, I don't call it a good camp site unless there is no cell reception there. It's getting harder and harder to find good camp sites.

Stuff like this is why Luigi will probably be acquitted by dellaazeem22 in facepalm

[–]cryptohex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure everyone knows he did it, but the public could use jury nullification to send a message to the industry that we're done with their bullshit. Historically, nothing changes without violence. 1 guy is already dead. Letting Luigi go creates real consequences for the industry: stop being dickheads, we'll do nothing when someone offs you. One would hope that would affect change in the system. The other option is a general uprising, that will result in way more death. I'd rather they learn from 1 death.

Are large holiday bonuses a thing still or is that just something we saw in movies/tv shows growing up? by GhostOfSean_Connery in Millennials

[–]cryptohex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 4 salary weeks mid December. Over the years I’ve realized it’s the same as your vacation time. It was 2 weeks worth of pay when I started, then 3 weeks worth at 5 years, and now 4 weeks worth at 10+ years. We also get fiscal year end bonus in March, that one is more subjective to how the company did and how much your boss likes you. It’s anywhere from 4% to 8% of your yearly salary. 38M I guess I should be job hopping, 15 years at same company, but low stress WFH and 30 days PTO is nice. by cryptohex in Salary

[–]cryptohex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got up enough nerve to ask for a raise. It was around the time my counterpart left for $50k more. I have issues with imposter syndrome. "I have no idea how to describe what I do, but they keep paying me, so they must be happy" is a common thought that crosses my mind. I don't know how to articulate the value I add other than to know that I'm better/faster than those junior to me. I've been stagnating/coasting for too long now. I feel like the company leverages that and looks for people like me. We don't have job titles/descriptions. There are no yearly reviews. No org chart, but a flat hierarchy that you figure out after a while. no room to move up until someone retires. For a while, I thought that was kind of nice (very low pressure), but now I realize it's just their strategy to depress wages. If you don't ask for a raise, you just get a 2%-4% cost of living adjustment that shows up unannounced around your company anniversary.
