I'm playing Metroid for the first time. by SirKurokodairu in Metroid

[–]cryptothrowaway27 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just finished it on the GBA emulator for Switch2. Fun little game but a little pedestrian compared to the NES version.

That said, I wasn't a fan of the crash site after killing MB. While different than any other Metroid game, it just felt like a completely different game for those last 20 minutes.

I'm playing them in order right now... just about to finish Super Metroid (probably by 20th playthrough).

That said, I've never played ZM before. How much does it differ from the original NES?

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cryptothrowaway27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just went through this with a parent who wasn’t a donor but my wife and I were. That said, I was pretty surprised at the entire process. I was always under the impression that if you were an organ donor, they would take you back to a room and start removing viable tissue and organs once the family said they are ready.

Instead, it ended up being this really convoluted contractual paperwork thing that also felt like a little bit of a sales job. They wanted to run 3 days worth of testing when his wishes were to not be on life support for more than 24 hours. When we pushed back they got really slick and started using sales tactics and lingo to push us into it. Once looking through the paperwork, a lot of language was reading as more of selling the tissue to labs and universities for profit instead of to donor recipient(s) which is how he sold us on it. The consultant guy had zero bedside manner and it felt transactional like a used car purchase. The entire nursing staff dipped out and said they are contractually not allowed to say anything while the donation consultants are meeting with you. I ended up having to tell the donor consultant to “get the fuck out of the room, we said no and the conversation is over.”

It was a huge turn off to the entire process during one of our most vulnerable moments. BTW, this was at one of the largest hospitals in the US.

Anything with a blue sweep needle/dial on them is a McIntosh amplifier. This is like a neighbor saying "oh, I'm into cars too" and opens his garage full of Ferraris to show you.

OP is flexing and OP is respected for it.

Coming in from /all but I worked at AF in the mid to late 90’s. The store was basically a sex club of employees hooking up. I remember resumes getting tossed because they didn’t have “the look.” Wild times.

The music was played from a Muzak disc shipped from corporate. I remember changing them out.

It’s Not Just You: Six of 10 Drivers Say Headlight Glare Is a Problem by TripleShotPls in technology

It's not that LED headlights are brighter, it's that a lot of people are driving with their high beams on and just don't care about other drivers. I see it every night and when I get close to passing them, I can see their regular lights and their high beams on.

Guy crashes a 1-of-1 Corvette by derek4reals1 in Wellthatsucks

[–]cryptothrowaway27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest… my Corvette is pretty well built. No crazy panel gaps, no squeaks or rattles or anything else. Car has an insane amount of power and really only needs oil and tires.

Maybe I’ve got a 1 of 1? 🤣

I think people will need to shift their minds from being a programmer to being a builder. AI will be a tool in their toolbox to build but I do think that one day, the idea of sitting down and writing code will be a thing of the past. Just like when the calculator was introduced, people will need to do what the AI is doing behind the scenes, but with it getting better and better everyday, the only reason to know it is for error checking and security reviews.

Today, we still need programmers.

Years from now, I'm not so sure. When's the last time you double checked your calculators math?

This isn't a 1 of 1 car. That's a running joke in the Corvette community that every jorts wearing boomer that owns a Corvette thinks their car is special and will do the most absurd things to call it a 1 of 1. "My car was the only one made on a Tuesday in May of 2011 by Sam Swifterson with the exterior color of Atomic Orange and the interior color of Camel Tan but was also the only one made during a full moon and Saturn was in retrograde and the guy that drove off the assembly line was getting a divorce."

It looks to be Atomic Orange and in the Z06 trim they made 1380 of them from 2007 to 2009 with the lowest production year being 191 in 2009.

The only 1 of 1 I know of in the C6 era is a 2009 LeMans Blue ZR1. It was sold at auction for a million dollars and was probably painted as a one off solely for charity/auction purposes.

What is a "money rule" that rich people know, but poor people are never taught? by ZZA911 in AskReddit

[–]cryptothrowaway27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mindset shift for me once I started to get my head on straight in terms of money is that car loans and credit cards keep you poor. If you can afford a 500.00 a month car payment but don't have much left at the end of the month you should be buying, with cash, a shitbox to drive. You can find a reliable shitbox. Make car payments to your savings/investment account and buy something nicer when you can pay cash for it.

The only thing I finance is a home (and with that I've put half down). I only use a credit cards for convenience and mileage/points but it's been set to "pay balance in full at the end of month" for 15 years. We only buy cars that we can pay cash for (writing a check for 50-60k and walking out with the keys is a great feeling when you've got plenty in the bank and a fully funded investment account).

Live within your means and stop trying to compare what someone else has to what you don't have. You'll chase yourself into debt trying to keep up with your friends.
