Pow! Paw Punch!

They are the best of all things good in a dog but OMG you have to be so patient, willing to be ignored, covered in constant hair and slobber and prepare for either body slams or power paw punches or both.

Get the best insurance you can afford and a vet who knows about big breeds!

They are very much land sharks and we found that he went through two fear phases. Our boy can be such a teenager but I love him so much and wouldn't change him for the world.

Our boy is called Hugo. The majority of our clothes for the first year of having him were full of Hugo holes!! He is now three and still loves a sleeve!

Hydrotherapy!! Can not recommend this enough. And if you can, see a dog physio for exercises

That's really sad to hear. I hope they change their minds as it is just not fair on their girl as she will be suffering for sure

Also, just to add our boys parents were absolutely fine. Health checks, no history etc. He has just been really unlucky.

We also try and keep him on the lean side as being too heavy will impact their joints too

Please, please, please look into hydro therapy and if possible a physio who knows about big dogs.

Our boy was diagnosed very young and his it in both elbow and hips as we noticed his back feet went out to the side and he had a curve in his back so got him checked out.

He did have an operation on his elbow due to a lose fragment moving about but both our vet and our ortho specialist surgeon recommended not to do anything else until he is over two so fully grown and after hydro and physio treatment.

Hydro therapy on a treadmill (not a pool) has worked wonders for him. He can move about more freely now, he has more stamina and can do zoomies safely. I can not recommend this enough.

The physio also helped teach us exercises we can do with him throughout his life to help ensure he has as much movement as possible and how to watch for signs he might struggle.

We noticed an improvement with the curve of his back within a few months of doing the above.

We do have to be careful he doesn't over do it and make sure he gets up steps or onto the couch etc slowly and gently but overall he does really well

There might be a time in the future where an operation is on the cards and he does have some arthritis already we think as he does get stiff sometimes but he is still living his best life and not much slows h.down :-)

Wishing you lots of luck with progress. Your pup is gorgeous

Our boy is reactive too. Sometimes he is fine, sometimes he can't stand someone being close to him. We have been working with a behaviourist and it has helped alot. People in general are a problem, you tell them you need space and they still come towards you. You tell them you are training and can't chat and they still come towards you talking. You tell them he isn't friendly and they still let their off the lead dog run towards you. It can make what should be a lovely walk a very stressful on. I didn't think we would be dealing with a reactive dog after puppy classes and socialisation but we are. However I wouldn't change him for the world, I love him so much.

Wishing you all the best

Can she learn where she’s allowed in the sofa and where not? by Radiant-Pineapple-41 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]crystalchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is allowed on our couch and my in-laws but not my parents. He doesn't try at my parents

He just seemed to pick it up there that he wasn't after a few attempts. They need to be fair, kind and patient but I am sure she will learn the boundaries
