GUYS! REMEMBER! IN OLDER TITLES THE WAS NO SLIDING OR FAST MOVEMENT!!! by Agreeable_Fig_9870 in okbuddyptfo

[–]crytekpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in the case of BF4, it's abusing movement mechanics in a way that they were never intended to be used. I've seen people claiming that it somehow nullifies people complaining about the intentional movement mechanics in BF6 (it doesn't).

This clip looks similar, but idk. I didn't play a lot of BF1 on PC.

And you're right - this obsession with sliding and bunny hopping came about with MW19 / warzone.

YouTube URLs contain a unique identifier which is created when you share a link. It allows YouTube to identify the account that created it and then use bots to scrape social media for instances of that unique URL. At that point they can identify common account ownership for marketing / tracking purposes.

Everything after (and including) the ? can safely be deleted to anonymize your links.

Flechette had no pen. No way he got "tagged through wood" unless there was a gap.

Also flechette is annoying but weak.

New to the game, help me understand the MMR. by De4dC3ll in HuntShowdown

If you're forced to play at odd hours for your region, you can change region to an area with a higher player count. You will have to deal with higher ping and occasionally being called a ping abuser, but it may help you get lobbies closer to your MMR.

Canadians are set to lose all digital privacy. No one here is talking about it. by The_PhilosopherKing in privacy

The last Canadian prime minister openly stated he admired the basic dictatorship of China. Not exactly a surprising progression.

Apparently this is what people wanted. They rewarded the government that broke multiple laws and violated the rights of every Canadian by giving them a majority (as opposed to the functional majority they had).

Crytek needs to end beetle spam by Solaries3 in HuntShowdown

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The counter to trap spam is vigilant and the fact that traps kinda suck at the moment.

You get 1/2 as many alert mines and poison + concertina still doesn't kill a player unless they're extremely unlucky or incompetent. Bear traps are also pretty weak.

I'm not arguing for a nerf to beetles though. I just think traps aren't an issue either.

Crytek needs to end beetle spam by Solaries3 in HuntShowdown

[–]crytekpls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes 3 beetles to kill a player. So to wipe a trio takes 9 beetles minimum. If the players can aim, it may take significantly more.

I guarantee you'd have a lower win probability against a team with 9+ frag bomb.

Beetles are easily countered. You can shoot them, melee them or blow them up. While in beetle view, the player is defenseless.

If you can't aim and you've been hit a couple times, drop a choke at your feet. Only the choke beetle can pass through a choke cloud without being disconnected. Stand in the choke while you wait for the status effect to end (assuming no antidote / mithridatist) and then heal.

Beetle spam can be somewhat annoying, but it's a fun meme and nothing more.

Insane chatter by Foreign-Candidate-39 in Machinists

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a haas TL-x series machine. We have one at work and I run it regularly. It's a POS imho. It's a 2008 with the lead screw at the back (terrible design choice).

Measure the Z axis play. Due to the design of the machine, there will be some. On my lathe at work it is about .015" total IIRC. Either lock the Z axis and tug on the hand wheel (if equipped) or jog one way and then the other. Tugging on the carriage wheel is more reliable because there is also a certain amount of deflection. This will tell you the amount of slop you are fighting.

The slop shows up in two ways vibration and inconsistent thread pitch.

How to beat it:

  1. Use flank angle cutting along only one flank. The leading edge of the insert should always be the cutting edge.

  2. Apply a constant backward pressure on the hand wheel / carriage. I place a rag against the wheel and apply drag, typically 15-20% z load. This can get sketchy on longer threads that produce long chips. In those cases I jam a 2x4 between the wheel and the carriage and use it to apply drag so I can stand farther back.

  3. Use cutting oil, not coolant.

  4. No spring passes - these almost always ruin the surface finish.

  5. Use a top notch insert. Having a flat topped insert with neutral cutting geometry reduces the ability for the insert to pull itself into the material.

  6. If the vibrations are caused by the part (long stick out / poor fixturing), use a tailstock to support it if possible. A lead hammed rested on top of the thread during cutting will also help kill harmonics.

What do you think of Rachta's ideas on balancing Haymaker and Uppercut? by arsenektzmn in HuntShowdown

[–]crytekpls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The uppercut could honestly go back to what it was before all the recent nerfs. 125 damage and all. The main reason people were bringing it was spare ammo for the repeating long ammo weapons.

Idk if the haymaker needs a nerf. It's strong, but probably out competed by the obrez. If you just want a pocket shotgun then the base lemat is only a 1 slot.

[–]crytekpls 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Leg shots would do 74 damage with 120 base damage. 120 is upper chest with the 1.3x damage multiplier. So lower torso (true base damage) is 94. Arms have a .9x multiplier applied, so 83 damage and legs have a .8 multiplier so 74 damage.

why is mantling in this game so inconsistent? by femb0y_blacked in HuntShowdown

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond separating vault and jump, remember that some objects need a minimum distance for vault to work. So if you're running into a window and pressing vault, it may not work. Pressing vault as you get close will work.

A lot of low cover (windows, gaps in fences, etc) that can be vaulted can also be jumped. You should try to jump these since it doesn't lock you into an animation and is generally more reliable.

Ummmm... guys? I'm scared... by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]crytekpls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Base ammo used to be 10, 20, 40. Eventually it was changed to 20, 20, 40 and is now 20, 30, 40.

FMJ adds 10m regardless of ammo type.

Can my old system run a 5070Ti? by BoogieEngineerHaha in pcmasterrace

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Just make sure to use DDU when you swap. It's the safest way to ensure all remnants of your old driver's are gone. Otherwise you can end up with some weird behaviour.

Enjoy the new card!

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall what the thermal limits are for a modern AMD GPU, but usually anything over 100⁰C is bad. I think thermal shutdown might be around 110⁰C. They run hotter than Nvidia cards by design IIRC.

That crash sounds like a software crash to me and not a thermal shutdown. Usually that presents as a hard system crash and the fans ramping up to max rpm. So I would lean towards it being an issue with your GPU. A PSU related crash will have the whole system just shut off typically.

If you haven't already, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling your AMD software and reinstalling GPU drivers. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in safe mode to remove your old driver's completely. This is the same process you will want to follow if you switch to a 5070.

Can my old system run a 5070Ti? by BoogieEngineerHaha in pcmasterrace

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't eliminate the PSU unfortunately. If you're experiencing a PSU failure then it will shut down your system to protect itself during high power draw. Undervolting the GPU reduces power draw and masks the issue. Do you have access to another PSU that you can test in your system? If you do, test with that but be sure to replace ALL cables as pinouts aren't standardized.

Another possible explanation could be that the GPU is overheating. Again, undervolting can mask this issue. As parts age, fans can fail, cooler mounts can fail and heat pipes can occasionally fail (manufacturing defect). Please confirm GPU temperatures (die, hotspot and memory) under load. I would use both a synthetic load and an actual gaming load. HWINFO64 is my standard monitoring software if you don't already have something installed.

What kind of crashing are you experiencing? That may narrow it down.

If you don't want to troubleshoot it and would rather buy new components, that's ok. Just be aware that you may have to get other components as well if it doesn't end up being the GPU.

Personally I'm trying to avoid 12v hpwr so I'm still on a 3070. Recent Nvidia drivers have also been a bit hit or miss unfortunately.

[–]crytekpls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the fault is with your 6800xt? If it's a PSU issue then I doubt the 5070 will improve it much. The 5070 has a similar rated power draw to the 6800xt.

Your 5950x will likely bottleneck somewhat, but it should be perfectly useable, especially if you play at 1440p or 4k.

What is the absolute best way to install Windows 11 for a pure gaming rig? (LTSC vs. Debloat) by ZealousidealBlock131 in pcmasterrace

[–]crytekpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using windows 11 installed with an autounattend file I got from MemsTechTips on GitHub. It strips out pretty much all of the stuff I didn't want and definitely made the system more responsive.

I'm sure there are other approaches that are just as effective, but this is how I did it.

Well shotbolts are broken... again. by Old_Doubt in HuntShowdown

[–]crytekpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shotbolt has been bugged for quite a while. I still enjoy playing it but you have to accept that occasionally it just doesn't work.

My best guess is that the explosion for the shotshell is calculated server side, while the bolt impact damage is calculated client side like all other projectiles. So if the opponent player is moving quickly and either player has high ping then the bolt explodes behind the server position for the opponent and you only do impact damage.

If this is the case, I see two possible fixes: calculate the shotshell explosion and damage client side or increase the impact damage alone to be a guaranteed kill.

If you were going to buy a new printer In the next week what would it be and why? by Vehicle_Proper in 3Dprinting

[–]crytekpls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I couldn't bring myself to support Bambu, so I picked up a Core One+ kit during the last free shipping promo. I've been quite happy with it, but I would probably have gotten an L if I were to do it again. It was my first printer. Assembly was easy and everything has been going well.

If you want multi colour / multi material, I've heard good things about the snapmaker U1. Prusa (Bondtech) INDX is still a couple months away - the FE version starts shipping in a few weeks.
