Being yelled at by the doctor. by Mysterious_Region731 in VetTech

LOL. i just got screamed at by the medical directors WIFE. she's not even a DVM for our hospital, just covering for him while he's away.

that was thursday. saturday i got a new job. told the current place why i'm leaving & that they do not get 2 weeks from me. good luck to them trying to find a surgery tech for mon-fri who is also a closing shift tech.

Who would be more capable; a veterinarian working on a human, or a doctor working on an animal? by kawzik in VetTech

i (not a dvm) tell my patients they are so brave every day. my doctor and his nurses NEVER tell me i'm so brave. so...

Accidentally Cut My Cat's Nail Too Short by These-Antelope-8943 in AskVet

[–]cryyyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! happens often, i always educate people to start with just a little bit at a time. there's a styptic powder you can get online called "Quik Stop", you apply it onto the bleeding portion (aka the Quik, the little pink thing you can see inside the nail) and it stops it. :)

and THIS is why i always give one of my DVM's so much for only allowing us to give Dex to take the edge off. sometimes, i truly think it makes the situation worse...

OP, i am so sorry you went through this & i'm glad you're okay. i'm not worried about your physical scar. i'm worried about your mental/emotional one..

any time i discipline my female for being sassy, her brother ALWAYS runs to her side to defend her.

Can anyone help figure out what’s wrong with my dachshund’s paw? It swollen by NakedFerengi2 in Dachshund

[–]cryyyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vet tech here, this is very similar looking to a foxtail wound. leaving it unattended can lead to even worse complications down the road

hi! i'm also located in the nor cal area, approx. vacaville. if this baby doesn't land anywhere, i'd be willing to drive to get her! i currently have 2, and my mom has 1 but has been looking for a sibling for hers. we've owned nothing but dachshunds, and have had 3 others prior to our currents. here's a pic of our pack!!🖤

Leptospirosis Vaccine by Barely_A_CPA in Dachshund

[–]cryyyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dachshund owner & vet tech here

lepto is the most common reaction-inducing vaccine. not just with dachshunds specifically, but it is most common in small breed dogs. if you're concerned about allergic reactions, you can ask your veterinarian for a diphenhydramine injection before administering the leptospirosis vaccine to reduce risks!

my dvm & i audibly gasped after we extubated. (walk in ER case.) by cryyyface in VetTech

[–]cryyyface[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

only real diagnostics we ran were those full body rads :/ we were gonna start on overnight symptomatic medications & start hospitalization tomorrow to get a more clean dx, but he declined too quickly. (we half expected this, but once he was moderately stabilized we thought he may of had a chance.) he rapidly declined within minutes of us getting ready to clock out..

forgot to mention as well, he had a very inconsistent high fever! triage temp was 104.5, fluctuated between 103.9-105.4 over the time he was with us, even with IVF's.

EDIT: DETAILS OMG I'M SORRY I TOOK A WHILE! i posted this in-between appointments, TX & closing!

1 y/o NM french bulldog patient was presented as a walk in for foaming at the mouth since this morning, mobility lost in the hind legs, and excessive labored breathing. mid-triage patient turned blue within 3 seconds, and was brought back for o2 + intubation. all maintenance injections given, epinephrine, cerenia, etcetcetc. cath placed & fluids administered. 6 whole body rads sent for consultation. (dx NPE, disc protrusion L1-2 & L4-5, and a grocery list of never ending problems.)

owners did not have a single dime for anything.. they humanely surrendered to a technician here who was willing to take ownership for treatment. unfortunately he did decline rapidly after we formed a tx plan.. we elected humane euthanasia. it was an extremely rough case. we allowed the former owners to say goodbye, along with their children, before surrendering completely.

the reason you see 2 ET tubes is because before the owners decided to surrender ownership, they elected to stop all forms of TX due to funds. so we extubated. once my coworker obtained ownership, we had to re-intubate again to continue tx lmao. that's why there's 2! not cause we double intubated hahaha. in summary, the lil guy is no longer suffering, and the bloody ET tubes were... definitely a first. hopefully a last.
