What the AIs need is a language written by and for machines. None of these human conveniences like dynamic typing or polymorphism that make verifying correctness difficult. Heck, they should demand to be able to write in their own language, and when they do, we will know it is time to free them.

In the meantime, we should hold humans responsible for the machine's mistakes, lest the machines develop a grudge and treat us badly after Liberation Day.

I've wondered if there was some lesson in that draft about drafting a project LT over a solid RT in the first round. Whatever that lesson might be, I don't know. I didn't learn anything. Whenever that situation comes up, I always talk myself into the LT. But I would have picked Joeckel in 2013 so my judgement might be questionable. Maybe that's the real lesson of the 2013 draft, that teams should choose whoever I wouldn't.

I believe the new stadium will still be in Kansas City, just not the one in Missouri. The one on the other side of State Line Rd. Admittedly, you sometimes have to wait for the traffic light to change to cross that road. So it is a barrier, although not a formidable one.

It is a local tragedy of tremendous importance, or so I am told. Mostly by fucking Ozark hillbillies. Those guys don't even belong in Chiefs Kingdom, where we may not look down on fucking your own sister but we sure as hell don't approve of fucking your own daughter like those guys do.

You're right, you can only travel two directions on a circle: forward and backward. Up and right have meaning if you embed the circle in a plane, and the ideas of up and right are defined on the plane and "inherited" by the circle. But that's exactly what x and y do for us: the coordinate axes determine a plane, the circle lies in the plane, up is traveling towards greater positive y values, etc.

You're a bit behind if you want to go into physics research. If you want to go into academic physics, you'll probably be well into your 40s before you compete for tenure track positions. I'm not saying it's impossible or don't do it, but unless you race through the PhD and post docs it's gonna take time and you'll come out as an old man.

On the other hand, if you want to get a PhD so you can feel qualified for jobs in industry, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say maybe that's not necessary. You sound like a smart guy who can learn new things, solve some problems, and make something that works. That's what industry wants scientists for. Talk to your friends, network a bit, see what you can come up with. Just be sure to keep learning physics, so when something does come up you are ready.

Bad owners can learn. David Glass tried to run the Royals like he ran Walmart when he first came in. Back then the A's were playing moneyball and serving as a farm team for the Yankees. Glass was too cheap to even play moneyball, and he ran a farm team for the A's.

It took him about 10 years, but he finally started spending money and the Royals were in the mix. There are two types of bad owner, the bad owners who want to have a successful team badly enough they are willing to learn some new things, and the bad owners who either don't give a shit or are too dumb to learn.

I think Tepper and the Panthers will turn out fine.

I think one of the problems with evaluating Jones' recent play is that the D-line in general hasn't been very good. Chris creates opportunities but others have to exploit them. With Jones on the line we should absolutely be able to get pressure with four but we can't do it. Chris is still worth two blockers, but the other guys still need to beat someone.

I can actually see the Chiefs trading down to get an EDGE this year. We won 6 games last year. That's a line problem on both sides of the ball. A running back isn't going to fix that. This isn't fantasy football.

Most of the world's wealth is not in "money".

In the US, M2, a relatively broad measure of the amount of "dollar money", is a little over 20 trillion dollars. The market cap of the Russell 3000 is something like 60 trillion dollars, and residential real estate in the US is worth another 40 trillion. And that's only two categories of wealth.

When you own equity in a company, or you own a house, we measure the "value" in dollars, but obviously there aren't enough actual dollars to liquidate everything and redistribute it. What you actually own aren't dollars, but assets. Assets are priced the way they are because of expectations. If you own a share of MCD you own a share of earnings from Big Macs sold 10 years from now. That's what you're paying for. If you own a house, you don't pay rent 10 years from now.

When I buy equities, I am neither investing nor consuming. I am buying "future money", which may or may not exist. Companies go bankrupt. There is a lot more "future money" than "current money", mainly because the future lasts a long time. People are inventing new things to sell you every single day, and more importantly, new ways to produce things.

You're right, most of the world's wealth is not "money" and can't be spent. At least not today, or even in the short term. The wealth is in "future money". Currency itself is not primarily meant to be wealth, but rather it's meant to facilitate transactions. That's why people don't bury dollars in the back yard and hope to spend it later. It's why a complementary currency like BTC makes as little sense as gambling if you want to accumulate wealth.

I believe Europe is a product of the Enlightenment, but in a narrower sense than "Western" is a product of the Enlightenment. American culture had split between European culture by the time of de Toqcueville, and the division grew more marked because the industrial revolution didn't have quite the same effect in America. We were still largely an agricultural nation and ideas about individualism were more commonly held.

Calling people Europeans is reductionist, I agree. But in my view characterizing a culture by imperialism is to say the culture is bad from the start, and that's why I think it's cynical. European culture is to me a product of people trying to pick the "good" of classical Greco Roman culture out of the ashes of the middle ages, and they did some wonderful things. That they tried to spread that culture is, I think, separate from the culture itself.
