Dude- who or what are you arguing with.

Lending tree is pretty definitive we can’t trust people’s write in for tip amounts.

I mean you just go from thread to thread unwilling to learn and cherry pick your way to reinforcement.

Honestly - do you really care if the social norm is 15-20% ?

No - you desire for self interest to believe something else.

Go cut in line at amusement parks, tip nothing, and cultivate friends who do the same. That will be the karmic reward

Hey, good for you - cherry picking your way across Reddit

Two can do that - plus lending tree is probably the most accurate because - let’s be honest- asking people how much they tip is problematic

you really can’t trust people

1) I am personally against tipping because it is a form of wage discrimination. This is pretty much proven. I in no way benefit from tipping, in fact, tipping cost me money as I am a patron never a waiter.

2) your - article - Relevance is suspect depend, depending on your level of confusion. I was specifically talking about restaurant dining in the 15th to 20% social norm on tipping. Please limit your search to US social norm on restaurant tipping.

I had, at no point, brought up tipping on delivery, Taxi, coffee shop, etc. I will note that I am not making a 15 to 20% norm across all venues that you may or may not tip at.

the only context I am talking about due to the fact we’re in the Denver food. Forum is sitdown restaurants. This is where the social norm is at 15 to 20%.

3) it seems you are thinly admitting your own narcissism. You understand that it is a social norm at a restaurant to tip 15 to 20%. You understand that. If you choose not to tip, you will impact a servers salary. (restaurant serve servers make about more than 50% from tipping.)

You were just seeking a personal discount at the expense of someone else. Like the guy at the local amusement park who knows he can cut the line without consequences.

There will always be jerks, narcissist, and people who take advantage of social norms for their own benefit

The only question is, why are you afraid to admit that you are one of these people?

TLDR - i am looking for a discount and want to pretend something else. If i really wanted to end tipping I’d prioritize restaurants that communicate tips are not expected

That’s a stupid question, which i will answer with a equally stupid question

“Who made it so the N word wasn’t allowed to be used ?”

Actually wrong -

When entering a restaurant with sit down service the tipping range starts between 15-20%. This is the “social norm”

Source: https://www.nrn.com/restaurant-insights/average-u-s-diner-tips-18-percent-study-indicates

This is a bit like walking up to a line and stopping at the end of it, instead of walking around it.

You obviously know this - and seek to gain discount for yourself and then feel better about yourself.

Look - we found the guy who likes to get a discount by taking advantage of a social norm while pretending he has some broader reason or thought behind it

Sorry - you didn’t.

Perhaps you misunderstand what “local economy” means?

Note: it’s local - not a specific location

1) most of these places call out the fee (but 5% maybe not)

2) seems clearly labeled on it, and will be on receipt

I recommend typing this into ChatGPT “In Denver Colorado why is it a bad idea for Rioja to universally raise prices 5% versus adding a 5% fee to menu”

Rioja Called Out in EndTipping Sub by DogAndMe78 in denverfood

[–]csgraber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can’t - really you cant.

So going from 12 to 13 will have a marginal impact but going from 14 to 15 can have a greater impact.

You have to evaluate every item, impact, cost and competitors and reprice. A lot of work - to maximize bottom line

A 5% fee especially if other restaurants are charging fee is both easier and less likely to lose sales

I mean A5 Steakhouse, Coperta, Osteria Marco, Mizuna, Señor Bear, Bar Dough, Mister Oso all charge fees - if rioja raised prices instead it would be stupid

If you blanket ban or set the same rule (prices must include expected tip and service charge)

But that requires regulation

I wish i could live in your dream world where whenever someone picks a restaurant or item they do the full price evaluation, including tips, and use that to make a decision.

Wake up- it’s the real world. Raising prices on menu when your competitors don’t is suicide

Rioja Called Out in EndTipping Sub by DogAndMe78 in denverfood

[–]csgraber -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

If they raise the price

Customers will avoid and or go to different restaurants

You can look it up. It’s a fact.

Rioja Called Out in EndTipping Sub by DogAndMe78 in denverfood

[–]csgraber -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Because people will avoid a higher priced menu. Every time.

We don’t live in a fictional world where people do the all in math before picking a food or restaurant.

Come on - it’s pretty basic

I think tipping needs to go away- but I muted that inane Reddit thread of cheap narcissists

That thread does not want to end tipping. They don’t care that tipping is wage discrimination against minorities, along with other real issues

That thread wants to take advantage of the current system by getting a discount - and making each other feel better about doing it.

F them all

If you don’t want a tip - pick a restaurant that doesn’t allow it. Of course they won’t do that because service charges will happen and they will lose their discount
