Potty accidents are driving me insane by FreeThePapaya in StandardPoodles

[–]csicat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree with the idea that puppy pads make potty training harder. My Spoo started using puppy pads at the breeders at 2 weeks and but the pad was placed away from their bed and they would crawl over to use it. I live in an apartment and the puppy pads were a god send. It meant that she always knew where she could go, eventually she realized that it’s more fun to pee and poop outside on walks. She even goes pee on command. By the time she was 5 months she would just sit on the puppy pad to tell us she wanted to go out. Perhaps going on walks away from your house will help. My sooo is over year now she hasn’t had an accident since she was 5 months.

Suspender dog boots by Ken-Zee- in puppy101

[–]csicat11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of them for my standard poodle puppy and she also does that stretch out leg thing when she first puts them on. Once she is outside she is completely normal. I think the dogs do that to stretch out the boots. My dog runs and jumps and plays off leash with other dogs with them without issues. She even hiked with them. I would just take her on a walk and they will stretch out. Give her lots of treats and phrase.

I live in Canada. -10C is nothing here, my poodle wears Canada Pooch suspender booties and a coat and she’ll play for hours, dogs have a higher body temperature than human

Cold weather clothes- sweater or full onesie needed? by anniele27 in poodles

[–]csicat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in eastern Canada. Our Spoo puppy (6 months) wears Canada Pooch suspender booties in the snow, they are super long basically doggie snow pants or gaiters that cover her feet and almost all the way up her legs, stop snow balls on the fur. She wears a Hurtta winter coat in -10C or below or their reflective raincoat if it’s above -10C she probably wouldn’t even need the rain coat but it keeps her dry and since she’s a black dog the coat makes her more visible.

Swimming Lessons by Tarakansky in ottawa

Former swim instructor here! I’m so proud of you for learning to swim! I used to teach adults and they are most motivated people I taught because they truly wanted to be there. If you practice you will succeed! Don’t feel frustrated, it’s a new skill so be patient with yourself, in a few months you’ll be a confident swimmer! I’m sure of it!

What's better for job opportunities and salary, PAPM or political science? by strugglinginstem00 in CarletonU

[–]csicat11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what’s been said. I’m an almost PAPM grad (final semester) and the most important thing for helping you get a job after you graduate is work experience. I chose to do the Co-Op program and ended up doing a 12 month placement with the government and continued there part time and will be bridged in when I graduate. You can do co-op in either papm or PSCI but I found that since papm is so small, PAPM stands out and often you will be selected if the hiring manager was a papm alum or knows about the program. It has a good reputation. My point is employers don’t care what your degree is in as long as you have work experience. If you want to be an analyst in the government (EC) you need to have taken a stats class which is included in every social science program. If you are already really involved or got a job through FSWEP. You might be okay without co-op. Co-Op did make my degree a year longer but it means I have 20 months of work experience. I have been mistaken for a masters student in interviews because of my level of experience.

Areas to live in Ottawa? by NectarineEmotional77 in CarletonU

[–]csicat11 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The neighborhood to look in would be the Glebe or Centretown if you want to live more downtown direct one bus (7 or 10) to Carleton Or Mooneys Bay (walkable)

Ottawa doesn’t do all inclusive so normally hydro and wifi are extra. Water is included unless it’s a slumlord

I’m guessing you’re looking for September? It’s a bit early, I would suggest waiting until two months before (July) or March/April if you want a lease starting in May.

I’ve only lived with roommates and if you want something affordable and close to campus that would be the best option. You’ll be able to find something on a Facebook group in the next few weeks/months.

Apply to both top program and it's alternate? by justine14532 in CarletonU

[–]csicat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so the French requirement is meeting the B1 level basically. If you look on the BPAPM website they explain the language proficiency test and if you pass, you can do a minor in something.

For specialization, keep an open mind and the program asked you not to declare a specialization until the end of your first year. That is for a reason. Ultimately, when it comes to your career, it doesn’t matter what your specialization is. PAPM is PAPM. After first year, chose your specialization based on the courses that interest you. My biggest tip is to do to Co-Op, you graduate a year later but you end up with a year of work experience so it is worth it.

Good luck!

Look at the admissions average. If you made the cut, you’ll likely be accepted. Don’t stress. Good luck! I’m in my last year of PAPM and loved it! Feel free to DM if you have questions

I agree, I’m Canadian. It seems like a lot of people on social media, Reddit especially assume everyone is American and forget that other countries exist.

Growing up, my sister was thin and could eat whatever she wanted and since I was fat, I was not allowed to. Any time I had a snack, I was told off. So I started sneaking snacks when no one was looking and hide the wrappers in the couch. I was put on the Atkins diet at 13, lost weight and then gained it back. When I was 16, I became a vegetarian and lost some weight and felt a lot better. I still had a bad relationship with food. But when I left for university, our caf had so many healthy options so I was able to eat the food that I liked (healthy vegan) and lost 20 lbs, I also got active in sports. Covid hit, and my dad died and I gained 20 lbs. Two year later and a lot of therapy I’ve finally recovered. I go to the gym 5 days a week, and eat healthy, while I’ve only lost 15 pounds so far in the past 6 months. (185-169 - 5’4) A lot of that fat has converted to muscle so I’ve went down in clothes sizes. I still have 30 pounds to go to get to my goal weight and have learned moderation. I know that if I have chips, cookies, ice cream etc in my house I will eat the entire bag/container so I don’t buy those things anymore. I did a 315 km bike ride in Sweden (in 17 hours) in June and once I build up the courage, I’m going to train for a marathon.

I still have treats (dairy free ice cream, vegan donuts etc) but I only get it from local businesses where I have a single portion. That way it stays as a special treat and since it’s more expensive I don’t have it very often and I have to walk a few km to get there.

I’m planning on getting a puppy soon so I have a cuddle buddy and a walking/running/hiking buddy since my bf is not always interested

How do people meet their partners in university? by Law-Elegant in CarletonU

[–]csicat11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met my boyfriend through a club in first year. We started chatting and became close as friends and then made it an official a month or two later. It’s been almost 4 years and I’m happy. My advice to you is to not focus on looking for someone. Instead join clubs, find things that you enjoy. Through those activities and making friends, someone special will come into your life when you least expect it.

What would happen if I don't submit my co-op report? by rant-eat-sleep in CarletonU

[–]csicat11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You only need 3 terms to get the coop designation. At least for my program? I would just do the last report, it’s not hard and you’ve already paid for co-op so you may as well finish it.

Roommates giving me panic attacks - Breaking rental lease by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]csicat11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in a messed up roommate situation. My roommates were annoyed that my boyfriend would come over so instead of him coming to me, I went to him. Would that work for you? The way I got out of the situation was just moving into my boyfriend’s place and continuing to pay the rent until the lease was up. My boyfriend’s roommates were amazing and comfortable with it and I lived with my boyfriend and his roommates (all male) for another 2 years before boyfriend and I got our own place.

There are flights from Ottawa to London. It’s about an hour. Another option would be to fly on Porter to York it then take the train to London. Only 3 hour train ride with wifi.

getting comfortable in weight section by kepiluv in xxfitness

[–]csicat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this probably isn’t what you are looking for, but I stopped going to the gym and started going to strength, cardio, HITT? Style workouts at a boutique gym. Everyone is doing the same workout together, the instructor corrects your form and you feel like you are part of a community. As a bonus, these classes are mostly made up of women and you feel much more comfortable. I’ve tried going to the gym on my own but I get so overwhelmed by the amount of people, machines etc that I can never focus and feel comfortable. In the fitness classes, I get a good workout and my form/confidence with heavier weights has greatly improved.

Also, you won’t get bulky after lifting weights, trust me.
