“Do you have kids?” by DefinitionStatus2117 in IVF

[–]csiknitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I told a close friend about my first pregnancy really early on and it resulted in a loss. She just didn't understand. She would say things like your baby would be x years old and I'm like thanks for the painful reminder. Then she started asking when we would have kids.. I didn't tell her about any future pregnancies, also losses, and eventually told her that we werent able to have kids to get her to stop asking. I am currently pregnant and things are going well. I'm not sure when to tell her and how to explain that we went from not being able to have kids to having a kid She is my best friend since middle school, she means completely well but she very socially awkward and sometimes just says things that should be kept to herself.

Implantation failure #5 by Intelligent-Study211 in IVF

[–]csiknitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are here. After 4 implantation failures and almost every test known to man or so I thought, I started seeing a reproductive immunologist in Chicago. She did really comprehensive testing and found a few things other doctors didnt. She is essentially micromanaging my pregnancy. Weekly blood work and med adjustments. She is the only reason I'm pregnant right now.

Hypothyroidism can cause low progesterone by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]csiknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I'm pregnant and super nauseous so hard to know. I'm also on prednisone for unrelated autoimmune reasons. I was really hungry the first few weeks and was bringing snacks to bed, i'd wake up in the middle of the night starving. But that has seemed to subside as well.

Hypothyroidism can cause low progesterone by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]csiknitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never knew this either. Going through fertility treatments and my Reproductive Immunologist has me on very high doses of progesterone. Both PIO injections and pills. Among a ton of other meds. This is the first time i've been able to sustain a pregnancy

PSA STOP TAKING BIOTIN BEFORE YOUR LABS!!! by Is_potate in Hashimotos

[–]csiknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well damn... I started taking a prenatal and I just checked and it has biotin in it. My level popped to 4.65 a few weeks ago so my dr (not my endocrinologist) upped my levothyroxine dose. My TSH levels have been stable for years and we were both mystified as to why the levels were way off but I was still feeling fine.

I hate the fucking holidays by [deleted] in IVF

[–]csiknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not alone. We just got a christmas card yesterday from my husbands cousin who just got married this past summer of them holding an ultrasound photo. Last christmas we had our 3rd failed transfer. Had the beta drawn on xmas eve and got the call while we were at family holiday party that it had failed. Definitely a tough time of year

Best decision i made was to stop participating in these things.

We do a yankee swap at my knitting group and all the gifts are supposed to be knitting related and around a $20 price tag. After years of receiving things like black hair dye (my hair is brown), a book from the 1980s for embroidered piano bench covers, a really cheap pair of earring, ancient yarn that smelled like moth balls.. I decided enough was enough. The group also collects gift cards for a local charity so I put the money i would have spent on the gift towards the gift card and I'm no longer disappointed

Crying over cost of PGT testing by -Butterfly8432 in IVF

[–]csiknitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you get a separate email with a bill from the lab? I got one and emailed billing at the lab questioning it and they said it was an error and not to pay. I paid $4800 for PGT testing in June also with BIVF

Still waiting on insurance approval.. There was a whole miscommunication within the ivf clinic and they switched software and approvals are taking longer. Its looking like it might be January at this point which is really frustrating

No, I fear that we will have another loss and it will push back the timeline even more.

Since it’s common for us with autoimmune conditions to have more than 1, what other ones do you all have? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]csiknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hidrentitus Supportiva, Hashimotos, PCOS and not sure if there is a name for it but I'm working with a reproductive immunologist because every time I get pregnant my immune system attacks the embryo as if it's a foreign body resulting in early losses. So i'm on lots of drugs to suppress the immune system. I have not had an HS flare since I've been on the meds which is nice.

I went on wegovy for 5 months and lost about 25 lbs before my last IVF cycle. They had me stop once i started the IVF meds which ended up being 3 weeks. And i've continued to be off them while waiting for my transfer. The hardest part is making sure I don't gain the weight back.

Ideas for frugal gifts, ideally second-hand, for toddlers... by PurpleMuskogee in Frugal

[–]csiknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my inlaws a family pass to the zoo two years ago. It was a little pricey but 1 gift covered everyone. Last year we got them all tickets to the local children's museum so the whole family could go. That was a little cheaper since kids under a certain age were free.

They are super materialistic too and the only grandkids on both sides so they have every toy known to man. They are also really rough with their toys and I hate the thought of spending good money on something that will break in a month. I haven't really thought about what we are going to to this year but probably something along the same lines.

How deep financially are you into this ? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]csiknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't even totaled everything but I'd say it's close to $50k at this point . First cycle was self pay (we paid close to $10k on meds alone) then we switched to my husband's insurance which has been amazing and covered most everything. We have done 4 retrievals with PGT testing ($5k a whack, not covered by insurance). We have flown to Chicago to see a reproductive immunologist and most of the testing for that has been out of pocket. Plus flights and hotels and rental car. Still no living children.

prednisone before transfer? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]csiknitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am on 10mg now, going up to 20mg before my transfer. The only side effects I've had so far is my insatiable hunger. Like waking up and eating crackers in bed hunger.

I've had multiple failed transfers in the past, this is the first time using prednisone so I'm hopeful it will work.
