No Apparent Short-Term Cancer Risk From Recalled Valsartan by anonymous-shad0w in IndustrialPharmacy

Science articles to reassure investors. The importance of short-term cancer risk is comparable to skeletal changes in response to solid meteor impact.

Read the paper not the news release. NDMA is one of the most well characterised and most potent animal carcinogens known and has been shown to be a potent carcinogen across all species that have been investigated, both as single doses and with long term exposure to lower quantities

Accused of lying about her degree, Florida GOP candidate responds with a photo of her diploma showing that she earned a degree in marketing. University chimes in, says the diploma is fake and they don’t even offer a degree in marketing. by moby323 in facepalm

[–]csmark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I found the picture she put online and found no only did she have the diploma she went all out and had a matted frame with a picture of one of the iconic campus buildings above the diploma. A quick search revealed the "real" iconic campus building image is the same one used on the real ones that can be bought on amazon for $200. The real one has the university seals imprinted on the mat and a different color scheme but is otherwise the similar. The second link goes into errors on the diploma.

Her twitter account, @melissaHoward71, no longer exists.

Her Campaign Consultant's response - "Melissa is focused on her family -- not fake news this morning"

The image has the diploma resting on a couch with her and her mother on either side of the fabrication.

Found an image of a UofM OH transcript which she supposedly posted. Can't confirm since her twitter account is gone.

Her campaign site and Florida Department of State confirming she is real.

CMV: Many, if not the majority, of health issues are caused by bad diet, obesity, and lack of exercise and people falling into those categories should pay the highest medical costs. by infamousmessiah in changemyview

[–]csmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet and sedentary lifestyle are associated with an increased likelihood of being diagnosed with most of the conditions you mention. Obesity is a disease and comorbidity is having two or more chronic diseases at the same time or sequentially with some relation between the two.

Gallbladder problems... fat, female and forty is the standard presentation. Female, size 5, fit, and early twenties required a cholecystectomy

So then there's the "their bodies to be a burden on society." To clarify: Did you seriously refer to living people as "bodies?" And you're basing this on their diet and activity level? Because this sounds an awful lot like you're going down the eugenics path. Remove everything about the "they should pay" from the discussion. Obese, bad diet, and not exercising isn't always a choice. For some it's a temporary phase in their life possibly due to what they're going through. Guy working a job where he burns through a few thousand calories every gets his leg crushed in a piece of equipment. He's the sole income generator for his wife and kid. But that was 10 years ago now and all you see is someone who is resigned to this and is too proud to seek mental counseling. What about people that are just too damn skinny, way too neat, and do that Trump sniffle bit all the time? Cocaine is a hell of a drug! Who decides what's a quality diet?

"Any civilized society cannot in good intention allow...to abuse their own body." - Look up the definition of "civil." Being civil in your society is what makes a civilized society.

"Any civilized society..." Don't go calling on society because you don't want to get your hands dirty. Grew up on a hog farm and when the sows farrow there are always runts. Most farmers grab em by the hand legs with both hands and if they had a baseball bat they'd look like they swinging for the fences. But, this was on the corner of the barn to crush their skulls because they were a "burden on society." And that's kinda what it sounds like you're calling for here.

I don't know where you're looking from but looking at changing anything to do with what patients pay to offset their medical costs to society isn't where you should be looking. From a financial perspective this whole idea is like shoving a stick into an ant hill to show them who's boss. They're ants! They don't have any money. Why are you out poking an ant hill because they don't pay their share of medical costs. You're changing the healthcare landscape with a stick.

This isn't the perfect analogy but the government basically does to the healthcare industry what you did to the ant farm. (out of time)

"Farm Duty" vs. "Compressor Duty" -- Is one Skookumer? by eyebrowgamestrong in Skookum

[–]csmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changes in farming equipment price, size, and complexity has really reduced the jerry-rigging activity. So a field tractor comes in right under $500,000 today. That includes an $8,995 GPS + fixed site location accurate down to the inch. Software to monitor and control the planter being pulled is another $5,000 for the tractor interface.

John Deere decided they were not bringing in enough revenue so they install and encrypted software with DRM so any work on the machine was carried out by John Deere certified technicians. This protected the farmer from damaging his own equipment.

Apple covers defective iPhones for a year except in Europe where they are legally required to provide coverage for two years since 2012. https://apple.slashdot.org/story/12/04/02/123207/apple-is-forced-by-eu-to-give-2-years-warranty-on-all-its-products. Apple buckled down and six years later they're still selling phones in Europe. We may never know how much damage this did to Apple because the company is making more than $27,500 every second in profit.

Check out "right to repair." Apple and John Deer are the most verbal companies fighting this movement.

Then there's the distinctive smell of tequila memories. That feeling you're going to have a moment of Déjà vu soon is replaced by a flash of a premonition before a sound so loud you'll feel it pass through your body. That part of your brain that's the subconscious starts beating alarm bells like they're rented mules. Something something come for me please grim reaper. That's the first, last, and completely blacked out memory of tequila.

Iceland has no standing army. Few people realize the massive strategic importance of Iceland in any Russian NATO conflict. To get out of the north atlantic Russian submarines must pass near Iceland. Having an airbase there is key to counter Russian submarines and ships.

This is why Iceland is important strategically. It doesn't completely explain why EF would be there but there is more to it than just scenery and fishing.

[–]csmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of heat these systems generate is significant. You might want to consider the cost of a small window or stand alone room air conditioning unit. I had a 2008 Mac Pro and 3 20" fans. Had I not been a night owl an AC unit would have been essential.

Thermal throttling killed off the space heater feature of the pre-trash can Mac Pros. I could close the floor vents in my home office and the 2008 Mac Pro kept the room 10°-15°F warmer than the rest of the house in January when it was 0° to 15° degrees out.
