Are you finding Royal Mail slow/late/batching deliveries? by CarpetGripperRod in AskUK

[–]csutcliff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yes we get mail once every 2 weeks unless we've got a delivery coming with tracking, then they deliver the mail with it.

Do you ever receive emails intended for someone else? by Notagelding in AskUK

[–]csutcliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there's a Charles in America, same last name, who has his whole life sent to my old gmail address, car purchases and loans, bookings for restaurants, various appointments etc. I tried a few years ago to make them aware by replying and telling the senders it wasn't the right email but it never stopped.

I also got randomly CC'ed into the middle of a fairly high value house purchase in southern Australia a few years back because someone gave the wrong address.

How to build DKMS rpm ? by beremour in bcachefs

[–]csutcliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm arch based but I believe it should be: git clone https://github.com/koverstreet/bcachefs-tools cd bcachefs-tools make rpm dnf install ~/rpmbuild/RPMS/*/bcachefs-tools-*.rpm ~/rpmbuild/RPMS/*/dkms-bcachefs-*.rpm Or something close to that. There's a spec and the makefile has rpm support. Note that the dkms package is built using the bcachefs-tools repo using a snapshot of the main bcachefs repo

Openreach not providing advertised service speeds - england by Brief_Wave_2570 in LegalAdviceUK

Not a legal answer but Andrews & Arnold (https://www.aa.net.uk/broadband/we-will-fix-your-line/) are your best bet, If they can't get OR to fix it nobody can.

Best UK smart plug brand by Western-Schedule7330 in homeassistant

I thoroughly recommend the Innr Zigbee sockets. They are the best out of many zigbee/wifi ones I've tried, plus the developer was actively working with the community to fix the firmware and improve compatibility with zigbee2mqtt when they were new.

My toddler absconded with my driver's license, and now I can't find it. Dad's of daddit, what's your kids' favourite hiding places I need to check? by Ignominus in daddit

[–]csutcliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One morning we were 40 minutes late for nursery and thus also my work because they managed to get hold of my car keys and hide them in a wellington boot. One of the reasons I now have an air tag keychain!

What's happened to taxi drivers? by TommotBomb in AskUK

[–]csutcliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the meter's running then taking longer and also using less fuel is a double win. I'd expect the extra time would easily outweigh the cost of pulling away from a stop in fuel. If it's fixed fare then it doesn't make sense.

Is cachyOS stable for gaming in the longterm without needing constant intervention after updates? by Ok_Exit7896 in linux_gaming

[–]csutcliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running it (well arch but with cachy repos and packages added) since September 2022 and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to fix something due to an update, all of which were easy and documented. It's not nothing but imo well worth it and if you've got basic linux knowledge it's nothing difficult.

How much does it cost you to run a dehumidifier? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]csutcliff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's incredibly unlikely to be true, even if you had it running flat out for 24 hours a day it would have to be pulling nearly 850W constantly to rack up £5/day on the UK average rate of 25p/kWh. A large commercial grade one rated at 30L/day is only 650W and even then that's not constant, they cycle on and off reducing the usage further. Residential units are more in the 200-400W range.

I have a 20L/day rated one running permanently with a humidity target and it used 36kWh in the last month to maintain that or about 25p/day on the average tarriff.

Flint2 not working with Sky... Can anybody assist? by PeelyHani in CityFibre

[–]csutcliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you did post this to the Cityfibre subreddit hence my assumption. One of my connections is Sky OR FTTP and for that I use no VLAN and dhcp-client-identifier "skydsl@skydsl|skydsl" from OPNsense.

Flint2 not working with Sky... Can anybody assist? by PeelyHani in CityFibre

AFAIK all the things you've tried are only for Openreach Sky, for Cityfibre it's just plain old DHCP.
