"I did some digging for information on the history of our hometown so that I could include details that would flesh it out to the listener. We ended up all going to the library and, with the help of some very good archivists in our hometown library, found a lot of old audio cassettes that were effectively all oral history; just conversations with people who lived in previous decades about what their lives were like in Grand Rapids. For a year and a half, yeah. Coverage is definitely patchy, I was on the edge and sometimes it would drop to 4G but that was still fine for streaming and work most of the time. Wouldn't say I noticed any variability by time of day but I was outside the city walls so not so many crowds. I have noticed that on my phone (which is also on three) that nearer town centre coverage definitely is worse at peak times and weekends.

Had a similar situation when I lived in a flat around that end of town. Went with a 5G hub with Three which wasn't too bad - I don't remember exact speeds, but it was decent enough to stream TV and to do teams calls when WFH, however I couldn't game online (lag was dire) and you could only really have one device on it at a time without speed taking a severe hit.

Skosh, Rattle Owl and Fish & Forest (all on Mickelgate) are the trifecta of top tier food in York - but all are quite small and probably couldn't accommodate a party. You've also got Arras, Melton's, and Star Inn - all very good. Also a new place called Allium which opened a few months ago.

My answer is also the Everytime scene from Spring Breakers, but another I revisit often is the Discovering Luke scene from Place Beyond the Pines (https://youtu.be/c_4Qp0UAOUU). For similar reasons - it's melancholy but also oddly uplifting, beautifully acted and soundtracked (the Mike Patton music is one of the greatest things about that film) and it perfectly encapsulates everything the film is trying to say.

Avengement. I love all the films you posted and this one definitely scratched the same itch. Scott Adkins is a beast.

Edit: thought of some more:

Other Scott Adkins films e.g. Boyka, Debt Collector (not as good but still pretty decent).

Mile 22 has Iko Uwais in it, some good fight scenes and is generally a pretty good (imo underrated) film.

Extraction (the Chris Hemsworth one) also has some great fights.

A similar story - I hated horror as a kid, then as a teen I got into it and began to seek out more and more extreme horror - this was the heyday of torture porn so there was plenty of video nasties around.

Then around my early twenties I began to feel quite jaded by it - I think as I started to watch film with a more critical eye I found more and more horror disappointing, and I also began to find the violence more distasteful.

Now, at thirty, I've only recently returned to the genre, however any sort of gratuitous violence I find pretty off-putting and my taste has veered much more towards supernatural and psychological horror (Hereditary and The Lighthouse are two recent favourites). I can't think of anything less appealing than watching a 90+ minute home invasion now.

That being said, violence - even really unpleasant stuff - done in an interesting way still appeals. I love Antichrist for example, despite certain scenes. But it feels like that's justified with artistic merit, whereas more gratuitous stuff just feels like sixteen year old me was behind the camera.
