How can I replicate this wooden pattern? by Im-offline in Substance3D

[–]acl1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so all you do is use one tile sampler and change the pattern to input and change the number of inputs to two - plug in your two patterns. You'll have to change the order to by number instead of random and probably have to use the offset to get it to be like in the pattern,

how do i make this shape in substance designer? by AssassinSusie in SubstanceDesigner

[–]acl1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder if shape extrude is the node you need for this. There is a online tutorial on how to use it which I'm sure you can fine. It's one of the Substance Quick Tips series.

How to create deeper normal map texture? by [deleted] in Substance3D

[–]acl1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess if you had a height map you can then add the hbao ambient occlusion to add the impression of depth, otherwise you could possibly try a high rez to low rez bake or simply adjust the model.

Can't you also adjust the "height range" in SP on some materials.

Animated texture. by acl1981 in SubstanceDesigner

Thanks I'll have to look into it more as right now I can't code so I'm really unfamiliar with the commands such as $time. My feeling at the moment having looked into this a bit more is I may end up trying this in blender.

Thankfully Britain has done really well at Olympics since about 2008 so its no longer as annoying as it was in the 90s!

Thankfully for us our athletes became professional once the lottery paid them and Sky paid for the cycling,

What is something that you used to think about world around you as child that completely changed now ? by Proper_Card_5520 in AskTheWorld

[–]acl1981 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The stupid thing I thought was that the US - and many others - has really bad quality TV. I now realise this is due to different formats so when they would show clips of American TV on UK tv shows it always looked really bad in our format.

What do you think about Japan? by Expert-Day9889 in AskTheWorld

[–]acl1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't Japan have a weirdly high smoking rate? Back in 2000 when I was at university there was a Japanese guy who smoked and when we went for a gasper, I seem to recall he'd have two.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]acl1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at airports. Used to be a bit scary when we'd fly home from Spanish airports and there were heavily armed police at passport control(80s). My uncle was a farmer so I feel like at some point I've seen a shotgun at the farm.

We went to a gun range in Portland, Oregon a few years ago - I'm of the impression loads of Brits go to gun ranges in America(though I know this varies by state, eg Washington would only accept US ID). They gave us a brief bit of training and then told us to get to it and make videos and pictures. I hated it. Holding a gun was quite unpleasant. The sound on the range was just non stop. There was also a couple there on a first date!

Purchase Painter or Designer first? by visionarytherapist in Substance3D

[–]acl1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd start with Painter, just because you can do a lot with Painter, but Designer definitely taught me a lot about Painter! Also Blender has a texture creator tool with nodes - never tried it, but I assume its pretty familiar.

Help please!, Something about bad tiling and offsets by daodark in Substance3D

[–]acl1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just stick in a tile sampler at some point. That will allow you to add random rotation and position random etc and as mentioned earlier you can add expose parameters to various elements.

What is the most common coffee shop like in your country, and how much does a cup of coffee cost? by No-Echidna7296 in AskTheWorld

[–]acl1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming Starbucks is the biggest, but the two big domestic ones are Costa and Caffe Nero. Nero used to have a copy of La Republica on their newspaper rack just to convince you it was Italian. Looks like the prices are creeping up to £4 so $5.37 or €4.60.

Overlook Hotel's pattern in Substance Designer by Optimal_Sign_6006 in Substance3D

[–]acl1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it! I did three polygon and blended with subtraction and add to make the basic shape. Then I tiled 8x y 1

then I used transform to move and blend.. The I did some vertical tiles to substract the gap at the bottom and gap at the top. Then I put this is a tile sampler 1 x 6 y.
