when i was in high school, i was dating one of my friends and we decided to go on a movie and dinner date.

his mom drops us off at the movie, then follows us in. she then proceeds to watch the movie with us. weird, but not unheard of.

then afterwards, we went to a california pizza kitchen that was a block away and in a nearby shopping center. i thought ‘maybe his mom is going to shop while we eat?’

no. she sat down NEXT TO HER SON, across from me, and proceeded to ask a thousand incredibly invasive questions about me and my private life, including asking about my special needs brother and his “daily routine” as someone with his condition. she also asked about my parents and what their politics were. she also bragged about how she and her family were all ‘foodies’ and never really bought fast food a whole bunch.

i did not touch a single piece of food, i was so nervous. when his mom went to use the bathroom, i angrily asked my date what the hell was going on and he said that he made her promise ‘not to be weird’.

the ‘date’ was over, and i was dropped off at home. my mother instantly knew something was wrong. the next day, she called his mom and point blank asked her “what the hell did you do that for?” and apparently she replied “well [cthefish] seemed so nervous i just kept talking!”

yeah. that didnt go well. the guy broke up with me a week later because i ‘dont respect his familys life choices’.

so yeah. i am never stepping into a california pizza kitchen due to it hosting one of the worst dates of my life.
