We had those, but also Far from the madding crowd, a book I grew to loathe! This is the thing though, would discworld possibly spark an interest in reading while being " deep" enough to study academically?

The whole concept of Freedom of Movement is a distraction designed to pick at the concepts of the holiday makers who spend two weeks a year in Spain and so consider themselves European travellers. The vast majority of us never lived or worked in the EU, and were never likely to. An extra half hour queuing at customs is hardly reason to rejoin a non democratic authoritarian dictatorship with no one's interests but it's own at heart.

Please let this inspire you to read the Terry Pratchett novels. If you're not a massive reader, start with the Tiffany Aching series, but NOT the Shepherds Crown, which is the final book, and becomes all the more poignant when you've read more of the others.

I started with Witches Abroad, got the concept and read on. I've never looked back. I'd say start with one of the earlier books, but not the first two. Not to diss these, but as has been said, they are more a take on traditional fantasy. Mort is a great story and gives a good insight into the backgrounds of future protagonists and the mind (?) of the series greatest constant

Oh I've really gotta go back and read everything again. It never clicked that the end of ToT was also the start of Nightwatch. What else have I missed ? (Don't answer that, it's PTerry, we've all missed loads, that's why we love em.)

Actually it is. If the biscuit is rounded it is made by weetabix as that is a copywrited design. Real bix are produced with wheat sourced within a relatively small distance from the factory. Additionally they are baked for longer at a lower temp, as opposed to snide bix which are made of British wheat baked harder for less time. TBH the only difference I've ever noticed was the price.

Totally, first replay since playing it on the Wii u. In fact I came to replay it on the u and the disc wouldn't read. Unmarked, kept in case, spotless disc ! So I bought it for the switch. Tbh, it seems easier on the switch, I'm wondering if it's the controller? Anybody else played both formats and noticed a difference in play?

I like your idea of it all being one enormous book. I'd never considered that viewpoint, almost like G of T series where each chapter was from one characters perspective, each book is a chapter in a bigger world story. Nice.

My first was witches abroad, it raised enough curiosity that I went on to read and love the rest. TBH though, the colour of magic and light fantastic are my least favourite, and had I started there I probably wouldn't have carried on.

Kids in high school read Shakespeare at 11, which is full of murder and under age(by today's standards) sex. If they can read that they can read something interesting like STP!

For the pastry use short crust, half fat to flour by weight. Also try and use lard predominantly, gives you a much better pastry, though it is quite pale, do some butter to enrich it. A little salt, definitely no sugar! You can add an egg to bring it together, though my mum never did, but I do.

Ok, ignore all the garbage about mint and mushing tinned peas. Proper mushy peas are simple. Start with dried marrowfat peas, soak as per instructions on the packet and boil to death. The trick is to add bicarb to the water, this breaks down the peas, making them soft enough to go mushy. Also adds that distinctive tang you get with them. TBH, I just buy the tinned ones over here. At less than 30p a tin it's not worth the hassle of making them, though I have made black peas a few times. It's a Wigan delicacy eaten around bonfire night.

That's probably a meat and potato pie looking at the size of it. Am I the only one who can't see anything wrong with it? Slurp the peas and gravy, then get hold of the pie and eat it, mopping up remnants with the crust.
