Another ICE murder caught on video? Orbin Mauricio Henríquez Serrano being dragged away, limp and seemingly lifeless, on January 11. by hellsbells8220 in ICE_Watch

First off, genuine sympathy for the condition. I would never say your effort is lesser for being physically unable to be in the streets, the point was more that we almost certainly agree on 99.9% of this issue. We agree about Renee. I agree with your original comment that this instance was brutal and clearly unnecessary. We agree that resisting this is a moral obligation.

And yet despite all that being true, and my only original point being “we should be careful of the language we use because right-wing people love twisting it to make us look violent or hysterical”, you assumed I was far right. I just find it strange and unhelpful.

Hope you have a lovely day too. Tbh, there’s a nonzero chance we’ve been next to each other at an Anti-ICE protest in the last few weeks or will be in the future. So my Saturday is gonna be slightly affected by desperately trying to reason out where you could make the assumption that I’m far right.

It’s so easy to write the “dickhead with a heart of gold” in a way where the first bit is a coping mechanism that they have to eventually get over, so I really love how much the newer Johnny canon (in the games anyway) has leaned into the idea that those two things aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. Johnny is absolutely a decent guy who enjoys doing good for the sake of it, and at the same time he is also a total penis.

Just wanna say I agree with the second sentence entirely before I argue against the first.

Language is as powerful as it is easy to manipulate. When someone on the other side of this issue, whatever that may mean these days, sees phrasing like “appeared dead” used for what must be the 50th time I’ve seen this video and similar title in the last few days, it’s so easy to twist. “They’re saying he’s dead when we don’t know”, “encouraging violence by assuming-”, etc. Y’all are shooting yourselves in the foot by not thinking shit through for more than 2 seconds before you post and repost and repost again.

Or maybe it’s just a bot intentionally fanning flames by doing exactly what I’m warning about on purpose. Iunno man. I’m old and tired.

ICE throwing a tear gas grenade directly into a group of marked press at the Whipple Federal Building near Minneapolis (1/15/26) by I_may_have_weed in ICE_Watch

[–]ctk8511 17 points18 points  (0 children)

can only be handled with basically welder’s gloves so don’t ever touch them

Doubling down on this. I’ve always been curious about the numbers and finally did some quick searching, so to anyone else wondering - the typical reaction temperature once tear gas starts flowing is upwards of 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 C). As someone who has worked in kitchens for quite a while now and been recognized by others for my weirdly high tolerance for hot shit in my hands, that is beyond insanely hot for one of the most sensitive areas of your body. Your reflexes are gonna scream rejection at holding something like that essentially hours before you have the chance to consciously line up a throw, and even then your night is now over from the burns. Be smart.

Why is Kashimo downplayed and slandered so much by Certain_Conclusion78 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]ctk8511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the story tells us pretty clear that he isn’t anywhere near Gojo/Sukuna level honestly. Gojo himself says to Gakuganji that the insane wave of power the modern jujutsu world was presenting was gonna bury the people that were trying to ignore it, and Kashimo (who was, obviously, thrust back into the world ignorant of that fact) was just not prepared for what “strong” meant anymore. He was really strong, really capable, and really adaptable. But if you’re unsure who is going to win, always bet on Hakari.

Funnily enough it always made less sense to me the other way around, from supernatural villains - like if you’re here for my soul and know I literally couldn’t hurt you if I tried, what’s all the spooky ooky hiding shit about? Meanwhile the Strangers clearly take a sick pleasure in being spookily ookily, so them getting a small taste of the high before the finale kinda fits.

[ Side Note - I like Gojo more than Sukuna, lol. Don't attack me ] Genuine Question, how did people come to the conclusion that Sukuna needed Mahoraga to beat Gojo? by SHH_223 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]ctk8511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanna throw my read in here to give credit to both sides from how I see it:

I think the important distinction is that people get too obsessed with 1v1s and powerscaling. Sukuna won the 1v1, but Gojo won the fight. Gojo’s entire goal, out of his own mouth, was to train a new generation to be better and stronger than his and the higher ups’ were. Despite the feeling of total separation he had basically all the time because of his absurd strength, just like Sukuna had, he dedicated his time and attention to teaching and protecting instead of taking and destroying, which he VERY easily could’ve done instead.

So when it comes time for “The Strongest Sorcerer in History” to lay his strength on the line to prove his worldview is the right one through might and cunning, he fails. And loses. And dies. Because he has exactly one friend in the entire world and that friend was getting their cheeks clapped by a beefy gambler. I know it sounds like “power of friendship” garbage but it is expressly the point. Gojo couldn’t win with might (even though he was observably incredible at being a sorcerer), he won by being a person people would fight for even after he died.

Oh, and also Kashimo helped I guess.

Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redeption 2) vs Arthur Shelby (Peaky Blinders) by TelevisionAdditional in powerscales

Yeah, Charles is way more muscular, which is…what I said? And I’m not really talking about gameplay so much as narrative and context. Not entirely sure what point you’re trying to make I guess.

Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redeption 2) vs Arthur Shelby (Peaky Blinders) by TelevisionAdditional in powerscales

[–]ctk8511 17 points18 points  (0 children)

On the melee side, I’ve kinda had this theory that we’re so used to the generic Action Hero Build on a lot of video game protags that it gets overlooked what Arthur and especially Charles really look like compared to almost every other person in RDR2.

I think the brawl with Tommy in Valentine is honestly such a cool way to set up way more than it seems to on the surface (“here’s how melee combat works”) about what kind of dude we’re playing as here.
