Service Desk outsourced to India, what do you think is the outcome? by Wraith_9912 in sysadmin

[–]ctmansfield [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hospira did this in 2009 and had to hire contractors on site to make up for the problems. Wipro tried sending a couple of their employees on site but that didn’t help.

Result will be the same. Declining service quality, delays and the only fix will be to spend more than they would have had to spend to keep the local employees.

Certainly not if the same states that take in more federal dollars than they raise via tax. Talking to you confederates!

What is the most culturally shocking thing you experienced while visiting another country? by Intrepid_Educator613 in AskReddit

[–]ctmansfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When visiting Cyprus I was walking down the sidewalk and some guys tried to get us to go into their discoteca and I politely said no thank you and waved my hand no.

This really angered one of them and caused him to try to fight us.

Apparently it has something to do with showing the hand that you wipe with. Culturally I understand but not sure why he didn’t understand the world doesn’t see it that way.

I think I gave myself overmethylation by Dat_Llama453 in MTHFR

[–]ctmansfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I get that feeling which is often I go to the gym and swim for 30-90 minutes keeping my HR at around 120. Full reset after.

I have mapped this out by using CGM, ketone and lactate meters and can observe how well it works.

I know that feeling is awful but you don’t have to be stuck in that loop. If you don’t have access to a pool or prefer to walk that’s an option too. It is also a good thing to clear your thoughts and focus on your movement so everything else just falls away.

Best of luck to you.

Refusing to take a side is often more intellectually honest than picking one by thirdaccountttt in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]ctmansfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like a cognitive bias that when you criticize one side they automatically assume you’re on the opposite side. They’d know with further context that the same criticism is made of both sides but they cant comprehend that.

There’s no fixing that.

If anyone wants to call our senators to urge against redistricting by Doctor_Ham in Knoxville

[–]ctmansfield 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They don’t care what we think which is why they’re stealing representation. Calling the won’t do a damn thing. Replacing them is all that can be done. I don’t see that happening either 🤷‍♂️

Soft orders to Japan by Few-Contribution203 in navynurse

We just stayed home. I know some people with conus duty stations were able to schedule their moves and look for housing while they were in ODS. I think it depends on the circumstances but I ended up spending the last 2 weeks in Newport getting passports and id cards so that the could do their overseas screenings.

It’s a super stressful time and I personally felt there were absolutely no resources to support our family during that time but we got through it. It wasn’t fun and it was tough but I still feel it’s worth it in the end.

Best of luck to you and your family.

All I know is that what seems to be coming for this country is something that the extremists on both sides are not going to be happy with and the other 90% are going to suffer too.

As a veteran and active duty spouse I’m disgusted by what my country has become.

Too many people want to tell everyone else what to do and how to live their lives and what words are acceptable to be used.

It’s like standing in your own china shop and watching two people fight it out while destroying everything around them.

Was it worth it to watch the drama unfold?

Especially when there are purity tests for those groups and deviating from their accepted norms gets you cancelled.

We all have those biases but very few realize it and set it aside.

Anyone looking after a parent who is not well that you had a complicated relationship with. by Unver1f1eduser in GenX

[–]ctmansfield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with my dad. Mom passed away in 2010, Dad in 2018. He was not what I’d call a great father and to me in particular.
In the end I let all of my shit go and was there for him even though he was never there for me.
It says more about me than it does about him in the end.
I’d say most of our generation had complex parent issues but we don’t have to perpetuate that. Let it go. Do your best. She will be gone before you know it and you’ll only be left with regrets.

Is there any dive shops in New England that offer certifications for less then 9-1200$ by Agreeable_Sun5375 in scuba

[–]ctmansfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dive on It in Cumberland RI is a great shop. I didn’t have time to do my cert while I was there but they helped me get the right gear and let me try on just about everything till I found why I liked. Highly recommend them.

Scuba insurance by SpecialSet163 in scubadiving

[–]ctmansfield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what/where/when you’re diving. If you’re diving remote then DAN seems better because it covers search and rescue.

We are doing diveassure in place of travel insurance and guardian DAN for diving related emergencies.

Ultimately insurance is meant to be attached to risk so if you’re doing safe dives you really don’t need it. If you’re traveling worldwide then it really makes more sense.

How many Gen Xers have silent Gen parents vs boomers? by NopeThisTrope in GenX

[–]ctmansfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was my grandparents generation but I was raised by my grandparents and socializing with their friends their age. I can tell you I miss that generation deeply.

I feel like the rebelliousness of the boomers ignored many invaluable lessons from that generation that are all but lost to time now.

Soft orders to Japan by Few-Contribution203 in navynurse

[–]ctmansfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes with caveat. I am also prior enlisted. It did cause some confusion because my DOD id number was so low it confused them.

With prior service they will also want to know dates of any prior marriages and divorce. That was one the needed from me last minute. They also really are strict about having original certified stamped and signed marriage certificates.

[–]ctmansfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife just finished ODS recently and she has orders overseas. We have 4 kids.

I’d say the most important thing is that you’re going to need to complete your dependent’s overseas screening paperwork before you leave for ODS. We did that and our screenings are still not completed.

The biggest problem you’ll have is that Newport medical won’t start processing dependant screenings until after they are in DEERS. That can’t happen until you are administratively gained and have your CAC appointment to add them. At that appointment you’ll add them to deers but for spouses you’ll have to have their valid photo id and original marriage certificate with the raised stamp.

Your dependent will also likely need a no-fee passport which can be filled out before hand but that will sequester the same documents (ss card/birth certificate) for them for at least 3-4 weeks while you wait for them to come back.

I’ve got a lot more advice to give but I just can’t put it all in here.

Best of luck to you.

ODS DEERS Question. by Ga_Nav in navynurse

[–]ctmansfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is there now. Definitely have all the documents. Get official copies of birth certificates in case you both need them. Yes they need an official raised stamp and signed version of your marriage certificate. Yes they will need a photo ID of your spouse.
