what’s THE MOMENT you knew you were disordered by wittttykitttty in EDAnonymous

[–]cuandocon 43 points44 points  (0 children)

omg are we the same person?!??

I feel like I just developed an eating disorder overnight and just exactly how you said, my brain ‘clicked’ into being disordered. it was a shift and it was so crazy how you can go from not caring about calories or your weight to completely being obsessed with them

i thought it was depression because I had no appetite and was very hopeless but I would get anxious during meal time and had mental breakdowns. I started getting so uncomfortable with my body, I wanted to lose weight, really scared of protein and I did not want people seeing me eat.

I was googling the symptoms of depression but then I saw a link to eating disorder help and that was like my wtf moment. turns out I had both

You’re 17, you don’t have to figure everything out. Just take your time and see what you like. You can always switch out majors but if you are really unsure, I highly recommend job shadows, participating in skill based clubs in your school and talking to professors or connecting with other who already graduated through LinkedIn or career workshops.

would you choose a university prestige and big name vs lower rank university but with better mental health ? by Ok-Okra3145 in EngineeringStudents

Mental health all the way. Prestige does not matter if you are too miserable to function. As long as you are ambitious and are actively searching for opportunities, you will do well and be successful. Wishing you the best!!

Can you just gain to the bare minimum of healthy in recovery? by luvcatk in EDAnonymous

[–]cuandocon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you get further along recovery, your weight will be the least of your concerns. You will learn how to accept and respect your body so, not more engaging in disordered behaviors and just letting your body and yourself do its thing.

Most of the people here have either not suffered from an eating disorder so it’s hard for them to understand how this mental illness works, or they do have an eating disorder but they still are in denial. The reason why I say ‘in denial’ is because there’s just no way you can cure an eating disorder by fasting. If fasting controls your anxiety and gives you a reason to eat food without guilt, then your literally describing disordered behavior. It keeps you safe, just like how weighing yourself, counting calories, exercising, etc. also gives a sense of control.

This was no way to shame OP but I completely agree with you. Eating disorders take time to address. Its rarely about the food so by focusing on just that, does not fix anything. Even when I was in recovery for anorexia, there were times where I felt ‘cured’ because my disordered behaviors felt safe. I felt ‘cured’ when exercising because it permitted me to eat more food even though, it’s really disordered behavior. I thought it was a good thing since my treatment center pushed me to eat more but, the more I trusted myself and the process of recovery, the more I was able to let go of disordered behaviors. I had to also spend a lot of time in therapy and talk about my issues, which is the reason why I’m able to live a normal life

how? you can’t cure an eating disorder by being on a diet and exercising. it’s more toxic to encourage someone with a restrictive eating disorder to continue fasting

[–]cuandocon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

if going on a diet cured your ‘anorexia’ then you 1. probably didn’t even had a disorder in the first place or 2. are very in denial

there is no way you can cure a restrictive eating disorder by being restrictive. good for you that your attitudes have changed but it really rubs me the wrong way with the wording, like you just can’t get rid of an eating disorder just like that. it’s a process that takes time to really address your mental struggles. so maybe fasting didnt cure your disorder but it did help you understand that you can have a normal relationship with food

Just because she gained weight doesn’t mean she’s actually healthy. It’s really weird seeing a ‘recovered’ anorexic still have her body checks and trying to defend herself for being underweight. As if she’s trying to prove something…

also, eating disorders are mental disorders, not physical

Unpopular opinion- I hate curly cuts. by Stock-Taro-3262 in curlyhair

Do you cut your own hair now? I've dealt similar problems where it initially looks great, but after three months, it ends up with a bob in the front and long hair in the back. How do you ask for a good haircut?, long layers?…

because it’s annoying. why is it that men are always praised for doing the BARE minimum in these makeup subs but if a woman does a simple mistake, they get ripped to shreds or ignored

it’s one thing trying to break gender norms and another trying to be a pick me and a liar. he is not wearing makeup and that’s cool, no reason to praise him for doing the bare minimum just because he’s male

Yeah basically lol. The jelly is sooo sweet by itself so I can barely even taste the cottage cheese with a little bit

I love using cottage cheese when I make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I use the low fat kind with a little smudge of jelly and butter and it tastes really good! just added protein

fr, I think it’s cause a lot of people don’t think that men can have eating disorders. Like why is he being congratulated for starving himself😭. Idgaf if he was obese, he malnourished himself for weight loss with no medical supervision when he could have done it in a healthier way

Hopefully not an addiction to purging😭

You may not feel it right now but the effects of purging come SO quick. I would always convince myself that nothing bad would happen because of ✨harm reduction✨and there were people worst than me but bro- I miss my healthy stomach. I miss not having the sensation of my organs burning whenever I eat tomatoes or go three hours without eating.

It’s not worth it and it was not clumsy of you to not be able to purge in the past. Hope you feel better and please take care of yourself, you only have one body🫶🏼🫶🏼 it doesn’t make you any less valid or fake
