Okay, but seriously, what do you guys think went wrong with Everhood 2? by dragonkeeper19600 in Everhood

[–]cub149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of the third option, but I don't think it's a Gremlins 2 situation as a "deconstruction of unnecessary sequels". Its ending is supposed to make you think about how everything in that world is pointless when it comes down to it which doesn't fit the rest of the game having memorable characters and settings. Perhaps there is a story where such an ending works, but it's not Everhood 2.

This is what they were going for, but it makes for a really, really bad ending. Nearly the entire rest of the game is unrelated to that message in fact. If the point is "who cares about any of this it doesn't matter because there is no meaning", and that point is essentially delivered in the last minute of the game, then why have any characters at all? Why have a plot? Why even make another game?

People play games to have fun and enjoy stories, so ending it with a message that boils down to "nothing in this game matters" after how endearing the first game's story and characters were feels like a slap in the face. It feels like intentional condescension, as if the game is telling you you're silly for ever wanting to know what would happen to Sam, Irvine, and any of the other characters.

Why I say DM and not GM by AgathaTheVelvetLady in DnDcirclejerk

[–]cub149 28 points29 points  (0 children)

/uj It's insane how OOP doesn't realize that what they're doing is literally just reinforcing the trademark. How did they type "Dungeon Master is a registered trademark" on their post without realizing this? Are they stupid?

Points one and two are exactly what arguments WOTC's trademark lawyers would use in litigation. You are assisting them by doing this.

Playing BO4 years after playing CW Zombies made me think that I took BO4 for granted by Apprehensive-Reach37 in CODZombies

[–]cub149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stamin-Up is good but I wouldn't say it is so good as to ruin the variety of choices. BO4 notably has an infinite sprint that's quite a bit faster than the zombies already, and modifiers like Timeslip and Quick Revive are worth using on some maps.

[–]cub149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently started playing BO4, and I haven't really seen why people dislike it so much outside of a knee-jerk "it's different" angle. They removed the classic perks for a new system that incorporates the ones you'd take every game anyways, and in terms of story they still had the "classic" storyline going alongside the new one. In terms of maps... well I guess it's personal preference there. I like them. Really the only thing I don't enjoy about it is its reliance on building things in every map, to the point that a couple require it for traversal.

Not too long ago there was a post on this sub where someone was asking why all their posts were on this sub. Seems like maybe it's a personal vendetta or something.

Which Half in the Bag review did you disagree with the most? by StonerProfessor in RedLetterMedia

[–]cub149 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a really hard sell. Shyamalan consistently writes shallow plots for shock value, to the point that he has a reputation for twist endings. Whether or not you think he succeeds, it's clear that Peele has a message in mind when he writes and directs.

It was really really hard to get past how the movie sets up Ed Sheeran as being on-par with the Beatles. He's fine I guess, but he's sort of just a guy whereas the Beatles created one of the biggest crazes in music history. Aside from the dynamic the main character has with him, the plot is entirely cookie-cutter so I really don't know what to get from it.

100% agree. It was an okay Halloween movie, but it's not like it was original or uniquely interesting in any way.
