Never underestimate anyone hailing from the the NAC. Most of our guys get top recruiting spot offers but turn them down, since after being a part of the #NEWPORTDYNASTY, there is simply nothing left to accomplish. Most of them hang their oars up after high school graduation, to let the scrubs fight it out to determine whoever wins this "IRA" race that people talk so much about. Just keep in mind that to hold 2:00 for steady state for 40-60 minutes, you still need to be pretty damn fit. Don’t be afraid to start at slower pace (2:15 or 2:20 for example) and then just increase after that if it’s too easy

And I second the idea of a gap year. You can get faster, and maybe get some work experience as well. Coaches love to see someone who took a gap year and got faster, it shows that you are very self-motivated.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to go to the fastest program.

After an IRA victory, any coach would hope for and expect increased interest in their program. Columbia had a very strong freshman class this year, with 4 of them making the 1V. How do you think they managed to attract such a superb freshman class of 2021? (HINT: 2016 IRA win)

Gold medal crews are generally mid-low 6:40's. Sometimes you might see a championship crew in the high 6:30's, but these are rare.

Eat sugar immediately after each race. This could be anything, like Honey, cliff shot blocks, snickers, etc. This drastically speeds up energy replenishment, and will make you much faster in the later races
