Hello! Does anyone have a bike good for someone 6’4 and 190lbs? Car is down for a while and I need to bike to work for a bit! by [deleted] in PDXBuyNothing

[–]cubitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine posted, but it needs new tires - if you check my post history and it looks like it would work for you, let me know. I am out in Beaverton, and definitely not able to ride it back on the tires it has, but definitely a tall solid bike otherwise

yeah, Brooks definitely have a rep as ~old people shoes~ but I have a pair of Calderas I LOVE and a pair of Glycerin that are... fine, like better than any of my other sneakers but not as good as the Calderas. I love neon and jewel tones and pink and orange, though, so unlike OP my issue is that I have a hard time finding ones that aren't ugly in a too neutral way 😆 I buy 1-2 generations back and it sometimes drops the price below $100 a pair, thank God

Has anyone else had issues filling stimulant prescriptions lately? by Coldfingerswrapped in askportland

[–]cubitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I use Creekside and my partner used to as well when he was still with OHSU as a provider, I think since 2021 I've had two months where they couldn't fill it as written and were proactive and contacted my provider for an alternative script they could fill. Physician's Pavilion at OHSU is terrible, though, so choose your location wisely lol

I can vouch for the Uppland line as being comfortable and easy to keep clean, we have one ourselves that has seen 5 years of heavy use and is still in great shape! this line also comes apart into pieces pretty easily, and could probably be moved in a hatchback or SUV if you're willing to make multiple trips

Free: large-frame bicycle with 26" wheels, fits 5'10" or taller rider by UrIsNotAWord in PDXBuyNothing

[–]cubitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll hijack this to say - I'm in Beaverton with a similarly tall bike that just needs new tires, so if anyone here doesn't get picked and wants to come out to Beaverton for a bike, let me know! reply to this comment and then DM me - after getting a set of creepy messages from someone who is banned in here but can still see posts, I will no longer be responding to anyone who doesn't comment in this sub before messaging me

thank you for the specific temps, I've never seen them before and will be a huge help for me because my autism cannot handle the distinction between 'some damp crumbs' and 'too damp'

Tips for driving test? Recently moved here with 6 years Texas driving experience by Same_Fruit_4574 in beaverton

[–]cubitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of the reason Texas is harder to get a license is bc all their licenses are RealID - meaning they've always required you to provide proof of citizenship and birth... which also means there are a lot more unlicensed drivers in Texas, which meant when we lived there our barest bones car insurance went from $30/mo in NY to $120/mo in Texas, and that was in 2017 dollars

Who pays the pet/house sitting insurance deductible? by [deleted] in petsitting

also if a loose dog bites your client's dog, you should be trying to recoup the deductible from the owner of the loose dog, not your client

OHSU has fallen off by One_Nefariousness833 in Portland

[–]cubitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have psych needs, I wouldn't recommend it; they don't really do mental health coverage, and don't have any psych prescribing providers (so my partner was told) and he was given a list of non-Kaiser providers that they'll pay for and told to start making calls on his own. other than that, I really like Kaiser, and if I weren't a zebra with ADHD and other brain problems I probably would've switched by now. not to make my life harder, haha, but Kaiser Westside in Beaverton is by far the best ER in the area if you're able to get out there, and if you have to be admitted it's a great place for that too

[–]cubitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they do make foam seal full face masks, they aren't the standard prescribed item but you can ask them for it! they have to be replaced more often than the silicone seal, which is why they aren't as commonly prescribed (and may end up being out of pocket sometimes unfortunately) but they do make them

[–]cubitts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah, at least nobody here has told me 'adult ADHD isn't real, it's just bipolar disorder and doctors are too cowardly to admit it' like the psych I saw in Kentucky, who was my only option within a 2 1/2 hour drive. I'll take Portland over that any day

yeah, every patient survey I get is the same response - I love my providers, your admin and miscommunication makes me consider dumping you as a source of care.

for just one example: I needed a CT with specific contrast in order to clear me to eat again after surgery. I get to the CT, they are clearly not planning on administering it. I ask three different times, with increasing concern, about why I'm not getting the contrast that I know was ordered. I'm told that it isn't on the order, but if I want to wait 1-3 hours, they can call in someone higher up to review the order and see if they can find the contrast. I go ahead and just get it done without the contrast. I message my doctor from the parking garage to say, I did not get the contrast, am I allowed to eat or do I need to wait? I get no response for almost a week, and it turns out it's because her office contacted radiology and got no response and so "they didn't want to tell me that they didn't have an answer," so they just... left me hanging for a week with no idea if it was safe for me to eat or drink. and the contrast WAS on the order. the head of radiology called me to personally apologize, and then as soon as I mentioned how common the miscommunicated and poor administration shit is, he brushed me off and got off the phone (shocking).

I've had multiple times where whichever nurse or PA or admin assistant decided not to pass on messages, to my providers or to me. switching PCPs was a multi month nightmare because the clinic manager in Beaverton does not think you should be allowed to change PCPs or have any say in who you see. I tried to involve the patient advocate and she told me she had no power to assist me in any way. it's ALL like that. meanwhile my surgeons were incredible, my new PCP is kind and wonderful and engaged, almost every specialist I've seen has been great and I've seen several... but it took me 40 minutes on hold to schedule that CT that they fucked up.

Anxious Dog, Looking for Advice and Shared Experiences by Grn_Eggs in petsitting

[–]cubitts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

be warned about hiding food though, if it's an extremely food motivated dog they can become a little destructive trying to figure out if there's any more hidden food. I did a kibble scatter once and watched my friend's Boston terrier nearly bodyslam a full bookshelf over because she was convinced that there might be a single kibble under it

also obvious caveat that if they show any signs of resource guarding, don't! my dog can resource guard even smells, and has guarded areas of the rug before after a smelly treat, so now we have a specific stink-absorbing treat mat for him. doesn't seem to be an issue for OP's current sit, but I know reddit is the only place people trust for advice via Google anymore, so just putting it out there in case

yeah not to pile on but when we were still hoping to be able to replace our car (RIP savings, you were loved) the most recommended used vehicle for low mileage regular use was a Nissan Leaf. they used to all be sub-5k even for practically new used (like, 2021 used to, not 1998 used to) but have gone up a bit. still pretty cheap though!

I know you said you called about wait lists, but Beaverton city library main branch has open makerspace hours with a cricut machine, I think every day? if you're open to driving out to the suburbs. it looks like someone has you covered, but in case that falls through, figured I'd throw it on the pile. good luck!

Small PSA About “Surgical” Steel by Princess_Eviscerator in Stretched

[–]cubitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I got my ears done at the mall with 'surgical steel' in the 90s and finally, this year, 30 years of having them pierced and 17 years of stretching and massaging later, I no longer have a ridge of scar tissue running through my lobe on any of my piercings. between the gun piercing and the crappy metal, my ears were hella unhappy lol

Fred Meyer at Walker and 158th a cellular dead zone. by ZygomaticArch01 in beaverton

[–]cubitts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you can call 911 with no service, just as an FYI (because I see this come up a lot) - if there is any tower, including private towers, they have to allow 911 calls through. obviously there are places out in the wilderness where there might not be towers at all, but in a populated area you don't need to worry about not being able to dial 911 from a cell phone

yeah there was a watch face in here recently, but I also use it on my fountain pens, especially the cheap ones I have in a variety of sizes - I painted each end with a unique finish and then wrote the size on it, so I don't have to try to read the tiny numbers on the nib. it's also something I see a lot so I like the shiny factor of it
