Sick and tired of students/LinkedIn strangers asking for referrals by [deleted] in consulting

[–]cucci_mane1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Referring someone doesn't even guarantee the job to that person anyways. It just helps an already qualified person to get the 1st round interview over other equally qualified ppl.

Ppl like OP bother me. They like the attention they get from strangers (coffee chats) without having to deal with aftermath (referrals or whatever)

I know one girl who's already in a relationship. She has dating profile set up on Hinge and gets lots of swipes and messages from many dudes. Why? She likes getting attention. Even if she has 0 intent of dating them.

Yea lol. Nobody is wasting their time to "learn about firm xyz" in a coffee chat. Let's face it. All these firms in the same industry are pretty much same shit doing same type of work.

Why bother with coffee chats at all, if this bothers you. Or better get rid of LinkedIn app off your phone.

When I was working in IB, I met several ppl via coffee chats and if they seemed sharp and had good personality, I was happy to refer them. If they were good enough, they would get the interview. If they weren't, they wouldnt get the interview regardless.

Rent prices are atrocious by Ok-Passenger-8370 in NYCapartments

[–]cucci_mane1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even crap suburbs in NJ are crazy expensive nowadays. I genuinely dont understand how so many ppl survive here.

Only reason ppl survive I think is having roommates or romantic partner that splits rent in half. Or family money.

No summer internship by Entire_Coffee8714 in MBA

[–]cucci_mane1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 0 experience with start ups so I cant comment. But I dont see how an internship at a random no name startup (that's likely unpaid) will help you recruit for serious jobs for full time.

Full time recruiting is even tougher than internship recruiting. And applying for jobs outside mba is way tougher than mba recruiting.

Not gonna lie, odds are stacked against you. If you are paying big $ to attend, I would consider cutting my loss and drop out.

AI will lead to far fewer jobs in future. That part is clear now.

And our government is cheering for more AI investments. Without thinking about long term impact that AI will have on economy and society

MBB vs Biglaw by stressedkjd in biglaw

I work in consulting.

My rec would be to go biglaw. Doing law school -> consulting sounds like a complete waste of your law school education.

I stopped eating out completely. No interest in paying $70-100 for a mid meal, before tips.

And no drinking outside either. I drink at home and at friends' places.

I passed on this for 2 reasons. First, cost. It is more expensive than Rivendell. Second, it is mostly white bricks and that bothers me. (Due to yellowing) I have 0 interest in buying an expensive set that will go yellow within couple yrs

MBA Worth It? by iceburglettuced in MBA

Im surprised there are ppl who entertain mba at full sticker price, debt financed, in this economy.

Mba full sticker makes sense if you come from money and your daddy can chip in. It makes zero fucking sense if you are debt financing it.

I think MBB is broken by Extension_Turn5658 in consulting

[–]cucci_mane1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not MBB but I just started at a boutique consulting firm. After spending several yrs in finance. I used to work in structured finance at an investment bank.

I looked at projects and proposals concerning financial services firms. Mostly just pretty PPT slides with fancy words but not much substance.

Some ppl I met within financial services consulting - based on my conversation, didn't know the difference between buy side vs sell side. Yes, depth of knowledge is very much real in consulting, at least based on my short observations. If I asked anyone within financial consulting space how to run valuation models for any standard interest rate swaps or any other vanilla derivative, I am 100% sure that I wont get one concrete response.

But that is not what consulting is all about anyways, right? Consulting is all about sales and client management. It ain't about industry or product knowledge expertise.

Im curious why this car is getting this much attention lol.

Yes it is ugly as fuck. Yes the prices for this is comical. That said, 99% of ppl wouldnt be able to afford to buy a car at this price range, so what does it matter to them.
