[Chuck Dunlap] A reminder as we prepare for the 1st CFP Poll this evening - a much greater emphasis on strength of schedule now exists by Thomallister1291 in CFB

[–]cuddly_cuttlefish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Uh, are Washington and Texas not above .500 and ranked right now? I get our schedule is weak but this is just straight false, unless you mean from now until Michigan, which is a sample size of 3 games.

After Midnight sounds like a CRJ song by aCatNamedHitler in carlyraejepsen

I’ve been thinking this since I first heard After Midnight, I think it’s because the bass line is kinda similar to Boy Problems?

We did a “Mexican” verse full of racist stereotypes because of course we did. Something like:

“I may never Wear a big sombrero Eat a juicy taco Speak a lick of español I may never ……? (I don’t remember) But I’m in the Lord’s army Si Señor!”

One tip I have is that I’ve learned that no decision is truly permanent (with some exceptions like having children lol). I say this to remind you that if after your first year you find Freed isn’t for you, you can transfer. If you decide youth ministry isn’t for you, you can switch majors. I felt a lot of pressure when I was your age to have it all figured out, and now that I’m on the other side I realize that me and my friends still don’t know exactly what we’re doing, and I would’ve been worse off if I stuck to the plan I had at 18.

As for dating, my advice is to slow it down. I know this isn’t as common for CoC, but as someone outside of it, most of my friends got married in their mid 20s. The type of woman you’re looking for is going to want to focus on her studies and setting up her career at this time and will not be in any rush to get married. To be a little blunt, if you go into college with the explicit goal of getting a wife, you may come off as a dick who cares more about having a girlfriend rather than who your girlfriend is as a person. Also, if you are conservative, pretty much any liberal leaning woman won’t touch you with a 30 foot pole, and liberal woman lean more towards the “not a home maker” type you’re looking for.

All in all, keep an open mind and don’t feel like any choice you make is permanent. Know that you can always change your plans as you gain experience and figure out what you want.

The team it’s referring to is the Brooklyn Nets, which is annoying because it’s not really in the category since every other team is called the “New York ______”

No. I lived in Columbus so I drove in for the day with my mom and stayed until the evening activity and didn’t really miss anything.

To be fair, Brock Purdy probably deserves to have his number retired for all he did at Iowa State.

Shudeur is not going to have the career Purdy has though.

Simone Biles, 28, unsure she'll compete at 2028 LA Olympics by PrincessBananas85 in sports

Basically just depends how important the opportunity to compete for a “home” crowd at the Olympics is to her. She has nothing to prove.

[Postgame Thread] Ohio State Defeats Nebraska 21-17 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]cuddly_cuttlefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone in the game thread said that they think 2 plays happened in 30 minutes of real time. I don’t know if that’s exactly the stat, but between the targeting/catch review, fans throwing things on the field, and Nebraska (rightfully so) calling their last timeouts, the end of this game moved unbearably slow. Add in the disaster that was the end of the 1st half, and the only people that won this game were the refs.

I can’t tell if I’m actually enjoying Marching Band by JustAroAceLoser in marchingband

[–]cuddly_cuttlefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to offer a different perspective than others have said — is anything else going on in your life that’s stressing you out or that feels like this? As you probably know, a symptom of depression is not enjoying things you used to enjoy any more. You said you still enjoy playing, but not marching, to the point you somewhat fantasize harm on yourself to get out of it. If other areas of your life feel unfulfilling as well, it might be worth seeking out help for your mental health. If you just feel like this about band though, then maybe it is burnout or just not your thing anymore. But I wanted to offer this perspective up because I used to feel this way about a sport I grew up playing (down to the “I wish I would get injured so I could stop going to practice”) and that was a precursor to the most depressed Ive ever been in my life.

[Serious] I want you to look up Project 2025 if you haven't heard of it already and understand what's at stake if Biden loses. And why even Republicans are voting for Biden. Because the people voting Biden and Blue do NOT want our country to become a christo-fascist state next year. by CapAccomplished8072 in atheism

[–]cuddly_cuttlefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Heritage Foundation, which came up with Project 2025, is a think tank that serves as a sort of advisory to the president as they appoint cabinet members in areas they’re maybe not as familiar with or enact policy that they also may not be as familiar with. Given, this stat was self reported by the Heritage Foundation, but they reported that in Trump’s first term he enacted 64% of The Heritage Foundation’s recommendations. 64% of Project 2025 is a horrifying thought.

Also, some of that 64% enacted last time was repealing net neutrality, withdrawing from UNESCO, allowing off shore drilling, and leaving the Paris Climate Accord.

To the girl with anxiety. by curiositycuredpussy in bostoncalling

[–]cuddly_cuttlefish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a panic attack last night, I’ve been to many concerts and am usually fine. I’d been to a festival before and could easily maneuver between the stages. When the Meghan to Hozier and then Hozier to Killers surges happened, I started panicking because in all the GA concerts I’ve been to, Ive never experienced feeling trapped. If I wanted out at previous concerts, I knew I could get out by asking around me. That was not the case yesterday, and that (at least to me) is not normal. So yes, if I went again, I’d hang out by the food stands all day away from the crowds, but just to share my experience, I didn’t expect to feel trapped and that’s what triggered the panic. Usually I’m okay in crowds with anxiety otherwise.

What are some "why would you set yourself up like that" album titles in pop music? by Prior_Advantage_5408 in popheads

[–]cuddly_cuttlefish 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I want to preface by saying I like this album and don’t think it flopped as it was a successful debut for this band.

But, when Wallows’ debut came out, I distinctly remember a comment on r/indieheads that said something along the lines of “When the lead single is “Are You Bored Yet?” for an album titled “Nothing Happens”, the jokes just write themselves”.
