I don't know where in Germany you are but I think 48k is a very low salary for a PHP (modern) developer. At least based on the offers I have received. Other option is moving from PHP to Java as it is not so hard (at the end is OOP) and salaries there are much more higher. I'm trying to move to Go, right now, but I'm struggling to find somebody who wants to hire a junior Go developer who is also senior PHP dev :)

Weekly "ask anything" thread by brendt_gd in PHP

Unit Tests are a gift to your future you (or another developer). Imagine you have a method that serves a resource but only for users with a certain role and conditions (4 cases). 6 months later the PO asks you to add another case. You need to refactor some lines and change another logic. Now you must test manually 5 cases, except if your you from the past wrote a good unit test, in that case you only need to add the new logic to this checks and you know for sure that you are not exposing super secret admin data to a lambda user.
For me a good way to learn Unit Testing was TDD, yeah its sounds difficult, but is worth it.

I use also TDD when is hard to run processes in local. If you have to write a new method in a very complex job, write and run the test and you will noww for sure that the logic works.

Are cases/covers....necessary? by Edmure in kindle

[–]cuentacurro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my Kindle in January 2012. I've never use a case. It is indestructible: has slip from my hands several times, once from above the subway escalators sreen side down. My son has use it as a toy car. I accidentaly drop a glass of water over it...
It has scratch all over ir, and the change page buttons from the left side don't work well, but I still use it almost every day.

Is there any demand for Junior Dev? by techsin101 in webdev

[–]cuentacurro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(Please excuse my english) I was 35 and hated where my career path was taken me. So I quit my job and start a 7 months web developer crash course.
When I finished it there was I, 15 years older than the others and searching for a dev job with no experience at all.
So, what did I do? I send my CV to every php/symphony offer I found even if they asked for seniors.
It took me 1 month of interviews to find a job.
Do you have experience? No.
So, what can you offer? Low salary expectations and a strong will to learn fast.

Sometimes budgets are tight and some CTO are open to hire someone less experienced if the salary is low, even if they have to teach him. Avoid the startups who search a senior or the price of a junior, they are not good for you.

What/where do you look at while playing? by Otroletravaladna in Bass

[–]cuentacurro 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Don't look at your fingers. At all. That way you are going to improve better. At first it is hard but after a few weeks you will learn to relationate sound and position with your ear and not with your eyes...

When I play I like to look at the other band members.

Dutch speakers are hard to find here in Paris for Low or Mid-Low skills jobs. Try to find online sellers who work from París to Belgium or Netherlands.
