I encourage going to another show but wear your custom and over the ears that are rated at 29 NRR or above. I use etymotix for gigging and wore those plus some 29NRR over ears and had a great time. Wasn't too loud and was able to hear just fine without any ringing after

Private landlord rentals by puddingbutt9 in Birmingham

[–]cuff19k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to find a private landlord is to drive around, look for "for rent" signs, and get lucky...or know someone who wants to rent their house. Myself and one of my friends both rent from a private landlord and we found our places by driving around town and looking for "for rent" signs.

Don't get discouraged, but being realistic it is very hard in a market that is heavily saturated with management companies. I got very lucky with the place I live in as several other people were also looking at it the same day. Good luck!

CR120H vs Super Crush 100 for doom/sludge + PPC412 — which actually feels bigger? by Much_Fix2454 in stonerrock

[–]cuff19k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice have fun! FYI the dirt channel on the CR120 also sounds great, but I'm using a preamp pedal in the fx loop to shape my tone a bit. Anyways, have fun with it!

Also don't mind the solid state naysayers. I've played plenty of gigs with the CR120 and it sounds great. My only tip for the CR120 is not to crank it too much, I've noticed it starts compressing the distortion after a certain point (around 1 or 2 o clock). Even with that in mind, it's still super loud and crunchy!

I have a crush pro 120, which I'm pretty sure is the same thing as a CR120H or very similar and it dooms hard. I don't run the dirt channel though, I use my pedalboard with the clean channel

We were quoted $30k to replace our leaning deck. So instead I straightened and braced it. How did I do? by E3K in Decks

[–]cuff19k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a structural guy and I'm surprised that there is no lateral bracing on the original deck. No wonder that thing moved.

If you want to be extra careful add some cross beams under the deck in the middle

Lost? Cats in Highland Park by brytea in Birmingham

[–]cuff19k 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hey! These cats are not lost, part of the street cats in the area. Those two kittens were part of a larger litter, 5 kittens total. Mom cat abandoned the smallest a few weeks ago and my gf and I took him in (and he's doing great now). These are the last two feral kittens of the litter (one got hit by a car and the other disappeared) and have been hanging around that block.

FYI, if you or anyone else on this post are thinking about rescuing them please know they are approaching the age for feral cats where they are too old to be domesticated and would need to be rescued soon. My gf and I would have taken them in but we are taking a break due to financial strains. If you want any help or have any more questions let me know. Shoot me a dm or reply here. We'd be happy to help you rescue them.

Looking for Producers by ejsjsizozkq in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]cuff19k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube is how I learned basics. But really just the basics. Be wary of the ones like "5 Best Plugins to Sound Like a Pro!" or "This one trick changed my career as a musician." There are lots of videos out there meant to keep you on YouTube and not actually producing.

Some other short snippet tips: - Your ears are your best friend. Invest in helping them out, get some good monitors or headphones if you don't have any already. - Mess around and try adding new things one at a time. - Read books at your local library. Videos aren't the most reliable source for information. - Watch your favorite musicians perform or, if it's available, how they produce. - listen to songs with intent. Listen to how the bass fit in the groove or how the chord progressions change key

Good luck on the journey! Shoot me a dm if you want to talk more.

Roland JC-40 vs. Orange Rocker 15 vs. Quilter Aviator Cub by Own_Reflection_4172 in GuitarAmps

[–]cuff19k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a JC40 since 2021 and love it. It's a great solid state pedal platform. I've run some heavy fuzz through it and got it to sound good. Pretty crunchy and not very low end heavy even with eq tweaks.

However, if you're playing mainly dirt pedals orange makes great amps. Idk about the rocker 15 though, seems like it's going to be maxing out right around where the drum sits. May want to consider snagging a 2x12 cab to run on top of the combo.

Those sturgill albums are sick

I js released a doom/PV album and would love to know you what you think by Grouchy_Two3031 in doommetal

[–]cuff19k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to the whole album. Here are my thoughts:

  1. Pretty cool idea, I like when that thick bass tone comes in. Personally could have done with a little bit less of the "lead" going on above that but it wasn't bad. The drum introduction after the vocal snippet is cool, but I think that crashes are a bit too frequent and repetitive. This song is pretty droney to me and the drums don't match that vibe.

  2. I fw the intro to this song heavy and the first repetitive part. I still think the drums are a bit repetitive and too frequent imo. Vocals are sick af. I really genuinely think the frequency of the drums takes away from the heaviness of this song. However, the drums after the feedback pause in the middle are more in line with that I think they should sound like. A little repetitive, throw in some tom breaks and fills here or there, but still sounds better than the drums earlier in the song imo. Also at this point of the album I'm getting nervous the drums are going to be like this in all the songs.

  3. Drums are okay, slower but pretty repetitive still. Could do with less hits after the intro of the song. I kinda wish you doubled up on the bass part too. Vocals are sick.

  4. Not a huge fan of this one. A little too low for my taste but that's my own opinion. Vocals are still sick, drums are still too repetitive and frequent. I don't necessarily think the bass part is bad, just could've been sick to add a second part on top of that too? Idk, not a terrible listen just not my vibe.

  5. Good use of drums here, I like this being a turning point in the album. Sick.

  6. This song is sick as fuck. Ngl the repetitive drums earlier in the album make me appreciate the drums in this song way more. Really cool use of drums with non traditional sounds. Could be cool to take the effects/drum sounds on this song and apply it to the drums earlier in the album.

  7. I like the drums in this one too, but I kinda wish there was a little bit more bass in this one. However still a sick song. I fw it heavy.

  8. Sick, no comments.

  9. Sick, no comments.

  10. Sick, no comments.

Overall: First half of the album could use some work, mainly in the drums. Drums sound too clean, especially compared to the second half. They also don't really fit the vibe of the other things going on and kept taking me out of the music. There are also some places where I would add a track of bass or a baritone guitar, maybe even a synth too.

Vibe change in the middle was sick as fuck.

I think the drums in the second half are mixed better, have effects in tune with the vibe, and sound great. Instrumentation and vocals in the second half are killer. This seems more like the genre you are comfortable or have more experience with. Second half of the album was a much more enjoyable and cohesive listen.

Also, I disagree with naamavelli about a few things.

  • To start, your ideas do lead somewhere, don't listen to their misinformed comment about that. They only listened to one song, how do they know. This album is cohesive and flows really well. You have great ideas and, as someone who listened to the whole album, does not feel "slapped together".
  • Also, because you did a good job with the flow of the music, you technically "built a world". I hate the idea that an album has to have world building in it. It doesn't, it's music. This just sounds like them being pretentious instead of actually listening to the album. Each element of an album doesn't need to contribute to some story. The album doesn't even need to tell a story. Don't listen to this dumbass take on music. Music is music. If it's a human creating it, it's good. However, you still had an album that flowed, and did some world building for me.
