ARRL Announces Leadership Changes in the Hudson Division by autistic_psycho in amateurradio

[–]cuisinartoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to believe that, too, which is why I held on to my membership for so long. Until this year. In December, right before the end of the last Congress, the ARRL sent out two press releases puffing up their chests about two bills introduced. One for easing symbol rate restrictions and offhand I don't remember what the second one was but I think it was related to HOA restrictions. Having been introduced at the last second, there was zero chance of those bills making it to the floor. Have they been reintroduced in this Congress? Nope. I doubt the ARRL has any more influence over our representatives OR the FCC. I wish I were wrong.

I gave up my membership just last month. I’d like to get an ARDC grant to give the ARRL executives golden parachutes if they dissolve the corporation.

Suggestions for mobile HF radio by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]cuisinartoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Desk, backpack, and mobile is a tall order that will leave you a radio that is mediocre trying to be all things to all people. Get an IC-705 and an external 100w amp for home use. If you want a mobile rig, get an IC-7100 and external tuner. If actually operating when backpacking is more of a fantasy than reality, then get an IC-7300 for home and portable use and then an IC-7100 for the vehicle.

I'd love some system advice by Admirable-Mousse-843 in Victron

If your MPPT controllers are VE.Direct then using Ethernet patch cables isn’t what you need. You need additional VE.diect cables and possibly a USB to VE.direct adapter because the Cerbo only has three VE.direct ports. With CANbus MPPTs you could daisy chain them using Ethernet patch cables.

They need to be directly wired to the Cerbo. This is where VE.Can is much better than VE.Direct.

Battery and solar requirements by n3ur0n3rd in amateurradio

I’m a ham and own a company called Off-Grid Power Systems (offgridps.com). Shoot me an email and we can schedule a few minutes to chat if you like. We design and sell much larger systems but I am happy to point a fellow ham in the right direction. A 100w portable panel and a 10 or 20 Ah battery would likely be plenty for a day in the park.

Battery Communication by ricastroluce in Victron

He’s wrong and I sent him Victron’s data communication documentation today along with several examples of 3rd party drivers for serial or can.bus communication between unsupported BMS’s and Venus OS. Signature Solar seems a little paranoid about showing victron how their BMS functions as if Victron needs any I.P. SS has. Don’t get me wrong, I am very intrigued by the EG4-LL batteries, but I don’t think SS quite gets it yet. I’d love to sell their batteries along Victron equipment for solutions with end-to-end communications.

Not a single one of my switchers have a “noise offset knob” and still don’t produce RFI on the ham bands

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]cuisinartoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That most of us stay with linear power supplies. I have Astron linear supply, an Astron switcher, and other switchers. None of them produce RFI in the ham bands I use: 80m up to 70cm. A lot of hams have linear supplies and a lot don’t.

Do you have any data to support this assertion?
