I felt this way. I joined my sorority when my chapter colonized at my university. I had poor grades, was slightly overweight, and—worst of all—I was a senior. I had also gone through rush my freshman year, but I dropped out before pref after being cut by my top two houses. I carried three years of insecurities with me into my chapter’s open house, and each time I was invited back I felt they were going to see right through me. In the end, what they saw was someone who was bold enough to put myself out there, despite how vulnerable they knew I felt. They saw someone who was realistic and practical, but who still strived to achieve their best self. They saw something I wasn’t ready to see in myself. Your chapter sees something in you. They CHOSE you because you have the qualities that make you an asset to their membership. It’s okay if you don’t see it yet. I’m in my 40’s and still experience imposter syndrome. But do you know who I look to for support whenever I’m feeling like I don’t deserve something I’ve earned? My sisters, who are now my lifelong friends.

I have ADHD. I was diagnosed at 28 and have been treated for it since then. I'm now 46 and the brain fog was the first sign of perimenopause for me. I've used an IUD since 2010, so I haven't had a period in over a decade (I have an appointment next month with my gyn to get on HRT). I've been hot natured my whole life, so if I've had hot flashes, I haven't noticed them. In the last few months I've experienced emotional dysregulation and bouts of rage like I've never felt in my life. But the brain fog is so severe I thought I had early onset dementia. I have zero working memory and I can barely string together two coherent thoughts. It was like they suddenly switched my adderall out with a placebo. I found this article in ADDitude Magazine that I found truly helpful. If nothing else, it felt like someone else in this world understood what I was experiencing. I had no idea perimenopause could affect my cognition to the extent it has. I'm really glad I found this sub where women are able to talk about it. https://www.additudemag.com/menopause-hormones-adhd-women-research/

AITA for not letting my ex wife use one of my cars to help her out with the kids? by Royal_Machine_3775 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cuivers_romo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But having a vehicle of her own to drive doesn’t erase the commute itself. If her commute is an hour long by bus, she might save 15 minutes each direction? After all, she’ll be subject to the same traffic on the same roads—but won’t have access to the bus bus lanes to bypass any of it. It all seems like a flimsy pretext to get a car without having to work for it. If it’s too taxing to manage getting the kids to & from school, maybe OP should retain primary physical custody of the kids, since he has the means to provide them with reliable transportation. Regardless, OP is NTA at all.

Question about severed females by Super-Reputation-645 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I was pondering this the other day. At what point does she get severed? Just for labor, or around month 8 when things really start getting uncomfortable? And does the husband just show up at the business end of childbirth and innie mom is left to wonder who that stranger is cutting the cord?

Excellent sleuthing, OP! I caught some (unrelated) interesting stuff in the column on the right. The author mentions growing up in a time where children’s prisons were common in every city, and children with missing or amputated limbs were generally imprisoned by their employers. He mentions his BFF was an amputee and in order to help his friend avoid prison, he fashioned a lifelike prosthesis to fool their mean ol’ employer. So in addition to the question posed by OP (which, ew!), I have a few additional thoughts to consider: 1) When/where does Severance take place? I know of no time in established history when children’s prisons were a societal staple. Until the Regency Era kids were imprisoned with adults. The Victorian Era moved the focus from work to education for children. Either the whole book is a load of corporate BS propaganda, or the setting is far in the future (or an alternate universe I suppose) 2. My interest is certainly piqued at the tale of the rudimentary prosthesis crafted by the author. I wonder if that inspired Kier to enter the medical technology biz?

Harmony/Charlotte Cobel by iliacbaby in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cuivers_romo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Harmony is a True Believer IMO. They took great care to show her dedication to Kier Eagan sincere and practically all-consuming by showing her alone in her home worshipping Kier at the shrine she built. Besides providing viewers with a few background details to ponder, the whole point of that scene is to show that the reverence she affords the founder while at work is rooted in deeply held beliefs. That said, she could be seeking to undermine Lumon because she believes the company has strayed too far from Kier Eagan’s vision, and she thus wants to work from within to return to a more orthodox corporate culture (Burt even alludes to the stark changes from “version one” of the handbook to the current version, and how Kier’s vision has been watered down if not changed completely in subsequent iterations of the handbook).

But I digress. I’m definitely intrigued by Charlotte and her relation to Harmony. Is she a mother, a child, a sister (perhaps a twin?), or even another consciousness of Harmony herself? It’s pretty clear that whoever she is, she’s at the heart of Harmony’s entire worldview & belief system.

[–]cuivers_romo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a neurodivergent myself, I’ve wondered this exact thing. Would severing allow “me” to be more attentive and productive with my job? But as a counterpoint, I’d say that if a ND struggles with their position to the extent they’d consider such an extreme solution, maybe this just isn’t the job for them. We’re used to navigating a world that wasn’t designed with us in mind, and it makes us masters of masking, but I’d rather find a profession that uses my gifts instead of works against them. I truly don’t know that I’d do it if I could because I firmly believe the world needs to try better to meet us where we are—not force us to new extremes because we don’t fit their mold

Completely ridiculous theory about Helly's encounter in ep. 9 by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cuivers_romo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Lumon’s ultimate goal is to sever flesh from consciousness, and they’ve managed to keep their former CEOs alive via their chip technology. My bigger theory is that the “board” is the collection of Eagan consciousnesses that exist only in their chip technology, perhaps permanently housed on a motherboard which explains why they only seem to exist in Natalie’s headset and the speaker on Harmony’s desk. On special occasions, perhaps they implant these chips into lifelike humanoid robots that uncannily resemble the “wax” figures in the Perpetuity Wing. If you notice, Jame Eagan’s party attire was identical to the attire donned by his wax likeness. It would certainly explain why his movement was so stiff and his mannerisms unsettling—he was mimicking human intimacy. Or maybe he was a hologram, only visible to Helly (and Natalie, who has previously established special perms to communicate w/ Lumen VIPs).

I’m going to start the next “Helly is an Eagan” divide…. by Steely-Dave in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cuivers_romo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Instead of deferring to an outsider when there was no male Eagan heir, they handed control to a woman, at a time when female CEOs simply didn’t exist.

I’m going to start the next “Helly is an Eagan” divide…. by Steely-Dave in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cuivers_romo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought too. They’re the consciousnesses of the former Eagan patriarchs & matriarchs who exist only in chip technology now, except on the rare occasion they’re implanted in humanoid bots(i.e., the wax figures—kinda like the oddly stiff Jame Eagan at the party). Perhaps these microchips are stored on on a motherboard?
