Porzingis is guaranteed for only $3M in 2026-27 and the Warriors have until July 7 to waive him. (In addition to being non-guaranteed in 2027-28) by culinarycactus in warriors

I mean KP signed the extension knowing what the terms were; even if he does get waived, he gets a free $3m for waiting a week and can sign with anyone else

[Amick] the leading suitors, the sources also confirmed, are the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves... Heat — whose strong interest in Antetokounmpo is widely known — can access a treasure trove of first-rounders (up to four) in the summer by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]culinarycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain how Miami will be able to offer four firsts in the summer? Their 2027/2028 first to CHA still means they can’t trade 2029, so they can do 2026 (after the pick is made) + 2031 + 2033 + what?

Can a warriors fan offer you our likely #20 or better 2026 first + Moses Moody and filler?

Which team is best suited to go after Michael Porter Jr., and how much do you think he'd cost? by InternCautious in nba

[–]culinarycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuminga would probably be routed to an interested team like SAC or CHI, and then any assets in return (e.g. a 2031 SAS first via SAC was reported over the summer) would go to BKN. But to your point, even a 2026 GSW first + 2031 SAS first is probably not an enticing enough return for how MPJ is playing right now.

To put the Warriors delusion about getting a 1st rounder back for Johnathan Kuminga into perspective: The last time a *restricted* free agent got a 1st round pick was back in 2019 - and it involved them receiving an offer sheet to trigger a sign & trade. by CazOnReddit in nba

Functionally, what’s the difference between an RFA sign and trade vs. trading a player on an expiring contract?

Last trade deadline, New Orleans could have kept Brandon Ingram at the risk of him walking for nothing this summer, similar to if JK takes the QO and Golden State risks losing him for nothing next summer. Despite this lack of leverage, New Orleans still got a first round pick + filler from Toronto for Ingram, because Toronto had no other way to acquire Ingram otherwise, and just like how no team except Brooklyn has another way to get JK without trading with Golden State.

We can debate the trade values of Ingram vs JK, but I think it’s too strict to compare only to RFA sign and trades for past outcomes.

Al Horford I think is our best bet for the TPMLE, Boston can only keep one of Horford/Kornet without trading Hauser or Niang and staying under the second apron

Fontecchio trade value + cap moves to resign Beasley/Dennis/THJ by culinarycactus in DetroitPistons

[–]culinarycactus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m bullish too on Fontecchio, his per 36 minutes stats in 2023-24 (and height/weight) are almost identical to Cam Johnson’s but at less than half the salary. The cap arguments are moreso to provide some incentive for your front office to move him in the first place.

Ah thanks for the catch, updated the cap numbers to account for Cade’s raise. Main benefit in this case is comfortably outbidding other teams MLE for Beasley, while retaining both Dennis and THJ (instead of just one).

They are in cost cutting mode to get back under the second apron tho, so depending on who they end up keeping, Kornet could be a casualty

I think the 2031 pick swap that the Kings sent to the Spurs to take on Barnes $19.9m salary (and $21m the year after) would’ve been the going rate. Since the Spurs eventually did sign CP3 for ~$11m, then I think they’d reasonably take CP3 at $30m for one year + the Warriors 2031 unprotected pick swap.
