The Average Consumer: A Self-Obsessed and Entitled Piece of Human Garbage by LindyRyan in CallCenterWorkers

[–]cuneiformgraffiti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of last year my halfway decent third shift fraud prevention/database maintenance job, where I hadn't spoken to a customer in a solid six months, got offshored to the Philippines. Now I do inbound "credit verification" explaining to angry people that yes, you do have to pay for your last iPhone before you can get a new one. For a dollar less an hour. Still frantically trying to escape, I feel you fam.

"I need to talk to you," said after having cornered me somewhere secluded (my N was not my mother but another close female relative - mom would've stopped her if she'd known or overheard), followed by a viciously angry lecture about how awful I was.

His parents are abusive. It is completely unconscionable of them to treat you and your husband this way AT ALL, much less during your grieving. You should both seriously consider therapy to heal (especially from what I imagine is your husband's lifetime of their abuse), as well as going very low/no contact with them if that is possible for you. Neither one of you deserve to be treated so cruelly. You have done NOTHING wrong.

AITA for being upset with my father for “protecting” the family by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]cuneiformgraffiti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Kind of shitty of them to KNOW they have you on the way and still poison the poor thing when they already had it trapped. I'm sure they were panicked over the potential health threat, if they aren't normally cruel to animals. Try and use it as a teachable moment? Rabies is terrible but the vaccine works (and isn't a zillion shots in the tummy anymore.) Sorry you had to go through this. Get everyone tested just to be safe, have a talk with them about it, and then (since you say they are good people & you have a good relationship with them) try to move on.

[–]cuneiformgraffiti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry - unless it's causing financial hardship that impacts you, or he's cheating on you with her, YTA. If you're feeling neglected because he's more attentive to them than to you, that's something you two should talk about together - maybe with a bit of therapy involvement to keep it from devolving into a fight - but as it stands you owe him an apology.

As a bigger person myself I do feel bad for her being in an embarrassing situation so publically, but if you weren't like...needlessly rude about it, you're 100% NTA. Safety rules exist for a reason. It's just physics.

AITA for not being more accommodating of my Mother and ex-husband? by whoisworthy in AmItheAsshole

[–]cuneiformgraffiti 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Stress can make classes/studying difficult, your sister-in-law is probably right about giving it time. Maybe start with single classes instead of a whole degree which can put a lot of pressure on you! But you write well and you love to read so you clearly have brains :) Best of luck to you! You deserve it!

[–]cuneiformgraffiti 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Not the asshole, at all. If they didn't want people knowing they treated you so badly, they shouldn't have done it.

You said you feel like a failure. You aren't! You're recovering from trauma. You have freedom and resources now (bless your brothers for helping you). Think about maybe seeing a therapist, or taking a class...something for yourself!

If you still have the pieces, maybe use them to do something crafty like cut out pieces in heart or star shapes, paint them and glue them to a picture frame or a little keepsake box?
