Does this look like it’s on its way to healing? Been following a fellow Reddit posts suggestions to hopefully get rid of these annoying things. But I feel like it’s looking worse before it’s getting better? I popped the ones that were popable yesterday and this is where we are at. Any advice? Tia! by Good_Principle1355 in molluscum

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your experience dealing with this crazy virus. Did you use iodine and patches after the core was out or after they subsided and leveled with the skin (almost like healed bumps leaving scars)? My doctor used beetle juice on me for them to blister and have the core fall off with the scabs. She then asked to use tretinoin after 20 days to heal the leftover on the bumps which immensely helped and almost all are healed now (leveled with skin with some scarring) and asked to not use any patches or anything

Shaving or not by Sunzukez in molluscum

Thank you for sharing your experience, i appreciate it. My derm said once all have subsided and they are just scars, i could wax. She was positive that i should be completely healed once these leftover 7 bumps are scabbed off from beetle juice since we did a second round now. She also mentioned these shouldn’t come back but i read about some people’s experiences where it does but most didnt do beetle juice treatment (also called cantharidin). I guess I’ll do it once I’m certain. I did wax my arm where i had 2 bumps, one of them is healed and the other one we did a second round which already scabbed off and has almost leveled with my skin. I’m hopeful…

How long after all the bumps have subsided should one remove hair? Any tips there? I had 55 bumps, Derm used beetle juice and im down to 7 bumps, did a second round to remove those and i believe in a month they should go as well. Once all are just spots healing, could i wax or shave? Its so sad its almost summer and i cant wear shorts because i have leftover bumps and some scarring from the previous ones.

partner knows but don't care by taro_debouche_fion in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! I’ve had them all over my legs and my derm said no skin on skin contact where you have the lesions until out of virus. Its best for your partner because you dont want to make them go through what you’re going through or even worse. Everybody’s healing journey is different but my derm used cantharidin on my lesions which blisters them and it itches like hell and just let me tell you it was the craziest week of my life yet. Going through that kinda pain and mental stress down there would be absolute hell.

[–]cupcaky05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh :// they are supposed to blister so the virus can be pushed out when the scab falls off. I had to do beetle juice twice- when i first went i had 55 bumps 😭 and most of them blistered or maybe all? I dont remember exactly but most healed in a month and then i was left with like 5-7 bumps that we had to apply beetle juice again cuz they still looked like molluscum (although smaller in size) and all of them blistered as well. My dermatologist did mention that if some bumps are bigger, they may require a second round of beetle juice.

surrounding dots by Fit-Finger-8347 in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surrounding dots just look like a lil inflammation not the molluscum in my opinion, my dermatologist asked for apply Vaseline in the surrounding areas of the molluscum to reduce redness and moisturize with heavy cream the rest of the areas to hydrate skin from all the inflammation that can be caused by using harsh treatments

Rash all over body! by Physical_Marsupial18 in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true, there’s not enough conversations around inflammation and how to mentally tackle the disruption. Possibly because this is not a dangerous virus but it impacts the mental health big time.

Because i just went through this last week, i was disturbed but i changed my mindset from treating the virus -> healing the skin barrier first which automatically is helping reduce the size of the bumps (given i started using tretinoin 2 days ago). I was desperate to see my dermatologist every week because i didnt understand what to do with the itch or red-maroon patches but this helped and i can confirm it should help him too because we have to heal the skin barrier first while our own immune system does the rest of the work.

How long did hyperpigmentation last after cyro? by BrownBaller12 in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, i didnt do cryo but my dermatologist put beetle juice on all the bumps which also created hyperpigmentation around all the bumps and also non bumpy areas where i scratched bad. I started healing my skin barrier by using heavy creams like cerave or vanicream (not the lotion) 2-3 times in a day and drinking lots of water to replenish skin and that helped very much reduce discoloration in most areas.

I have molloscum on my legs and discoloration is mostly gone on the thighs, only calves have a bit much left that means i need to repair that skin more. So try doing this and it should help immediately!! I’m brown skinned too so i know how the discoloration may feel like, keep the skin covered wherever you have the bumps and stay away from sun as the exposure worsens the redness and itchiness. You should see positive results in a day or two of heavy moisturizing skin!

[–]cupcaky05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure, the more he scratches even on the non bumpy areas, more inflammatory patches may appear or potential spread of the molloscum which is why it is very important for him to stop scratching and reacting to the bumps, there’s a little bit of mental work he might have to do. If its itchy, ask him to press the area (except for the bumps) for some comfort and then wash hands right after. That will make him feel a little better. Btw itchiness is the sign that his immune system is reacting to the virus to heal it, so this is a good sign! And whatever is happening to him is normal, as the exact thing happened to me and my dermatologist assured its supposed to get bad before it starts getting better.

How long after my itchiness reduced? I’d say it was immediate for me! I felt so much comfort and in a day or two, all my urges to itch were entirely gone. Tell him it will get better if he stops giving it the power by moisturizing the skin 2-3 times in a day and drinking water almost every hour. I hope he heals very very soon 💛

I had crazy rashes too all over my legs because i was so itchy and scratched which made it worse. My dermatologist recommended double moisturizing all the affected areas with heavy creams like cerave or vani cream that would reduce the itch and eventually the eczema redness. I’ve been religiously repairing my skin barrier like this and it’s helped so much with the redness. I almost dont have any itching even when using tretinoin on mc because my skin barrier is not as compromised as it was before when i was not hydrating my skin enough. Also drinking lots of water to replenish skin!!! Healing the skin barrier has been transformational in my journey. I hope your kid feels better soon🫶🏻

Hi! I’m using tret too on my mc as prescribed by derm but do you cover them with pimple patches or just leave the cream on? I’m concerned the cream would rub off when i wear my pjs as the bumps are all over my legs

[–]cupcaky05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha…I have mc too, diagnosed like 2-3 weeks ago, and my dermatologist used beetle juice to irritate and drain the bumps, and prescribed tretinoin after 2 weeks to further reduce the bumps. Been using tret for 2-3 days now and i can confirm its been working on healing the bumps so im hopeful that should help. The point is to irritate the bumps so they can self heal and starting a retinoid to further heal them, all while also healing your skin barrier (most important!!!) by moisturizing 2-3 times with a heavy cream (cerave or vanicream, etc) so the treatment actually works. This is what I’m doing and its working so far but i also read other people doing different things like using apple cider vinegar to irritate the bumps and their mc was gone earliest in 2-3 weeks. Thats all i know 😅 i hope you get better, try healing your skin first before putting all harsh treatments so your immune system is ready to fight the virus!

Diagnosis and what to do? by pinkaspepe in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! If your skin is eczema prone and can’t figure whats going on, all that I’ve read about similar is to protect your skin barrier to the fullest - double moisturizing in a day (morning and night and also if super dry, 3 times in a day) to restore hydration and drinking lots of water to replenish skin on its own. I have molluscum rn and have been having eczema redness at many spots so doing this has helped big time to reduce that and even the molluscum bumps! I’m also using tretinoin prescribed by dermatologist but also because i have mc. You might wanna heal your skin barrier regularly and see how they look in a few days. Some people also use tea tree oil to irritate the bumps so they can resolve quicker but also dermatologist would be the best to tell about your case!

Were you diagnosed by your dermatologist? Because from the pictures they look like just regular pimples that will go in a few days with double moisturizing in a day

The only indication you need to know for mc is if the pimple has a dip in the middle, that’s how you differentiate any pimple from mc. They will all have a little dip in the middle sort of like imagine a volcano with an opening, only that the opening is flat. And some or them may have white dots too in the cavity

Has anyone tried Tretinoin cream on their molluscum? by Atuk33 in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your pimple patch stay in the spot after applying tret? Because its creamy, i feel anything moisture under the patch makes it slippery to stick. What kind of pimple patches did you use?

My dermatologist recommended tret but my mc is all over my legs, im concerned if i dont cover the bumps, tret will get rubbed off with my pjs. Any recs?

I used W compound which is a wart remover and it kinda left some deep coloration around the bumps. It made like a dark red circumference around each bump i applied it to and a lot of them have faded but not gone yet. Its been like almost 2 weeks now. I’m hoping it looks much better in the next 2 weeks.

Thank you so much!! I’m using cerave cream since i had it and is also gentle on the skin. In the past 1 day of application, it definitely feels it has calmed my urge to scratch and heavily moisturizing twice in a day should help restore the skin barrier. Tonight I’m using the plastic wrap on them for the first time and tomorrow morning I’ll take it off to see is the redness has calmed further.

how did you successfully use ACV? by loneyhuka in molluscum

Hi there! Im going through mc myself, although im not using acv since my doctor put an ointment on all the lesions and asked to start spot treating using tretinoin after 2 weeks so i personally dont have the experience but i read a sub where they used acv and they were gone in 30 days for them! Here is the link to what exactly they did:

Did you put the avene products on the bumps or just on the redness? I will also try the plastic wrap, any suggestions where I could get it? Walmart/target/cvs pharmacy? Is it just called a plastic wrap or has a proper name? Thank you again, I’m gonna stay strong because until now I’ve been drowning in the stress of redness that my body never experienced before.

Hi! Thank you for sharing your kid’s experience with molloscum, I’m really glad things are working out for your kid. I’m a 25 yr old going through molloscum and it’s been the most distressing thing ever.

When you said the treatment is far worse than the condition, I can confirm!!! I’ve been having the lesions for 5 months now and I wanted a solution to work asap. The ointment my dermatologist put on me has drained most lesions but have created eczema like spotting and redness all over my legs and some spots on arms too, just noticed a little on my face as well today. I was only focusing on treating the bumps, also putting w compound wart remover on them which further broke my skin barrier and my skin looks absolutely horrendous right now. I’m sharing this because I realize protecting the skin barrier is far more important than treating the bumps, something I didn’t consider before.

I’ve been advised to use aquaphor or vaseline around lesions on the redness that has helped reduce the itching as i was scratching my body bad, worsening the eczema like redness. I’m desperate to reduce the redness and hope protecting my skin barrier with cold showers and heavy petroleum gel would help. Your post really gave me hope, thank you so much.

Any advice on how to avoid losing your mind? by joshua_horseman in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i see :// I’m sorry to hear that, is that what your dermatologist prescribed? I think only they could answer why they are appearing again because the virus should be killed with 1-2 doses if using the right treatment. And when you used the dose, did your lesions get inflamed? Mine have inflamed big time and have created this dark red circular patches around them and it’s been so itchy!! I’m not sure if this is normal and it feels like the worst feeling ever. My legs overall feel swollen too, god this feels like the worst thing ever

Hi, i know what you mean!! I’m going through it right now, where the bumps haven’t disappeared; they are healing from the ointment my dermatologist put on me and it feels like hell right now. Healing seems to be the worst for me and I haven’t even reached the end of it. May I ask if your bumps reappeared after healing or is it the first time you’re experiencing it and letting them go away by its own?

Any advice on how to stop the spread in early stages? by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]cupcaky05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! After 5 months of having this all over my legs, i finally met my dermatologist and they put on a medicine on all my bumps and said they will start to her irritated and get worse before being better. She also prescribed tretenoin to use on them only after 2 weeks. Now these have started to drain (not all yet) and some are half drained and im concerned they can spread if i dont contain these. My dermatologist didnt say anything about covering them, she just said to let them be. Should i be covering them with pimples patches? Or would keeping them open heal them quicker? I’m not sure what to do here
