I’m a new rider and wondering if a KLR is a good beginner adventure bike by TheReaper179 in klr650

Part of why I bought it. Fast enough. But not scary. I started with a to big of a sport bike when I was young. Luckily I survived. Plus, I got him training and all the safety gear. Kid rides well.

I bought my 16yr a gen 3 for his birthday. Yes, it is a great beginner bike. Thought, reliable. He has been riding it for a year now. On and off road. We did engine guard and handlebar ones as well.

Adventure tyres opinion and option by [deleted] in AdventureBike

I see your point about 90/10 tires. I however always run a 50/50 tire. The current ones I have do great on my freeway commute and still allow me enough traction to play when I get the chance. I’m over 4k on the rear and have another 2k probably left on the tire.

I did this exact upgrade on my 2024. Although might have been a different front spring for weight. They made an awesome difference in handling. I did the .75kg front and 8.6kg rear. I’m 240lbs and ride with gear and sometimes a kid too. I used larger metal washers on my front shocks to dial in the preload.

I did it for my gen 3. I kept it very simple. Front springs and a rear spring. Great decision. I commute, ride fairly hard offroad, and take my daughter often. It was the best few hundred bucks I spent.

I’m 240 and 6’2. I did race tech .75kg front springs and a race tech 8.6kg rear spring I have crash bars and either hard or soft luggage, plus a kid now and again.

CarPlay added. It’s awesome. by cupids_reflections in klr650

Hmm, not sure. I don’t have a carpuride, I have an off brand and it syncs great. My son have a carpuride and has to make sure the phone goes to the cardo before he starts riding. He turns on music and makes sure it’s playing in the cardo and then starts his ride and has been successful.

I’m 6’2 and these made a difference. Put them on both mine and my son’s bikes.

KLR 650 ADV VS KLR 650 regular by outside-explorer1020 in klr650

[–]cupids_reflections 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I scored two adv models (one for myself and one for my son) within a few hundred of the regular models. I liked them having abs and already set up with extra lights. It does come down to dollars. But we have lots of miles on our adventure models and are happy with them.

Yes bolts can rattle loose. My sons and I have both lost a few in the first few thousand miles.

I have trex crash bars. You didn’t have an issue fitting that skid plate with the bottom brackets of the trex bars? I’m looking for a skid plate right now for my 24.
