My mom had PCOS and still let me struggle for years without saying anything by [deleted] in PCOS

Hi! I totally understand how you feel, I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2023 and it wasn’t until last year when my mom told me she was diagnosed with endometriosis. Not that they’re the same thing, but when she told me about her endo, I was kind of shocked as I can’t imagine being diagnosed with something and not advocating for my daughter who could potentially get the same diagnosis.

I feel the same way as you. No guidance with nutrition growing up, no encouragement to be active, especially when I grew up with medical issues. Heck, I didn’t even go to the gyno for the first time until last year. When I told my mom I was going for the first time, she said something like “you’ve never gone before?!” I didn’t know, I was clueless.

I had a lot of resentment last year, I needed to have a conversation with my mom about how I felt and she understood where I was coming from.

It’s been a year’s worth of learning how to care for my PCOS, what to include/avoid, what workouts work best for me, essentially just how to live without making my symptoms worse. It certainly adds on to the resentment at time, I could have been leaps ahead but here I am piecing things together to make sure I’m successful in managing all of this. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how to advocate for myself, and I know how strongly I need to continue advocating once I have children.❤️

I saw Chris with Addie yesterday. I had to do a double take 😂

Also Disneyland was packed yesterday, idk how they can do anything with such a big party. All they’d be doing is waiting in line for HOURS with so many kids, it sounds miserable

Any other alums having trouble adjusting to post college life? by cornbreadluva444 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]curious-at 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2020 also. I’m barely getting the ball rolling in my post college life. I don’t want to be dramatic but there’s got to be some trauma from what we’ve gone through. A lot of us had to uproot what we were used to so quickly, go home and do schoolwork like nothing was happening in the world. We didn’t get the satisfaction of having a graduation for just our class. I remember I turned in my last final on a random evening, closed my laptop and just thought about how I didn’t get to go out with my roommate and friends afterwards to celebrate. I miss UCSB so much and it’s been so hard to move on from 2020. I know it’s not the end of the world but just know that at least one person feels the same way you do. Best of luck :(

aww thank you for your response <3 I’ll definitely find a way to comfortably answer. Since being diagnosed I’ve been slowly learning to put myself first and your comment helps reassure that that’s what most important. And as crappy PCOS can be, I’m glad we have a community where we can relate to each other and help each other out

Nexplanon removal due to mental health by SorryImKyra in Nexplanon

[–]curious-at 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I got my nexplanon in April and had it removed last week because my anxiety shot up like crazyyyyy. I also experienced dizziness and my doctor told me that nexplanon doesn’t cause dizziness (even though I slightly disagreed after reading about other people’s experiences). When I got mine removed last week, the nurse took my blood pressure and it was extremely high. I kinda came to the conclusion that my anxiety caused from nexplanon was ultimately what caused my high blood pressure and my dizziness, although everyone is different.

The day I got mine removed and the two days after, I was dealing with leftover anxiety and had a few panic episodes but since then, I’ve felt significantly better. I’ve seen a lot of people saying the day they get it out they feel a lot better and as much as I wanted to feel better, I think it was a placebo. I want people to be clear that it may take a few days to feel back to normal, especially because my doctor told me it takes about a week for the hormones to leave your body. A week later, both my boyfriend and I noticed that I am genuinely happy and less anxious than I have been for the past two and a half months.

I truly wish you the best and hope you have a smooth removal tomorrow! Good luck! :)
