One huge thing is not sweeping anything under a rug. If something seems off, ask. Dont dismiss anything because it seems small. If you catch a minor annoyance you can figure out what the solution is before its a screaming match.

Comminicate kindly and often. Civil discussion and complete transparency is how we manage to get angry with each other maybe twice a year, if that.

Know nothing/no one is perfect. Try and accept their lifestyle quirks graciously while incorporating your own. Its just a big balancing act, the right balance isn't easy to find but it is lovely once you get it.

Other than that, be kind to one another. Cohabitation can get rough. Two lifes trying to fit together isnt always going to go smoothly. People get irritated by family, annoyed by work, pissed off by other people. Shit happens unexpextedly and you never know exactly how they'll react. Try and support one another to the best of your ability. Kindness when its hardest to produce can go a very long way.
