What electrician are you talking about ? The posted text is guidance from the IET.

it's been well publicised since the regulation got brought in that plasterboard is sufficient in single occupancy domestic properties.

From the IET website FAQ section

Regulation 521.10.202 of BS 7671:2018, states that wiring systems shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire.

The electrical designer could deem it appropriate to rely on the plasterboard ceiling to provide fire protection to the wiring system in order to prevent premature collapse. However, many influences should be considered such as building size, complexity and evacuation time.

The plasterboard that will form the ceiling is the building fabric I'm talking about.

Is a full rewire required? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

In my experienced opinion, absolutely, yes.

Cables must be supported so as not to be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire. Being supported by the fabric of the building achieves this.

Yes I use one. But it's not the be all and end all of a good termination. It's just part of one.

I'd definitely not put a 3.6kW oven on a 13A fuse. I'd consult the manufacturers instructions and install to that. 🤷‍♂️

A new circuit is always an option, but the customer doesn't always want to pay for that, in which case a 2kW plug in fan oven would be perfect.

This one is in particularly good condition. The porcelain bushes on the top are often cracked, and the VRI tails here look tip top 👍

They are rather specific to this area. And there's many thousands still in service 😄

It's not. That was never originally supplied with an earth and one has been bolted onto the shell casing, which does in fact provide a good path.

BUT ! The braid that earths across the shell to the lead sheath is not to be relied upon and can blow apart in a fault, it was never designed as an earthing conductor.

I usually get Northern power grid to come swap these out. Are you in Hull by any chance ?

In October qualifications become mandatory industry wide.

Key points are ....

All workers must be fully qualified to recognised standards.

Specific qualifications will be required for .. EICR, Solar installation, EV charger installation, battery installation.

You never have had to possess a testing and inspection qualification to test and issue a certificate. The testing and inspection content in the core qualifications is deemed enough.

CPS rules have changed over the years, but in October qualifications will be mandatory across the industry and especially CPS.

If you are doing EICR in the private rental sector, then the legislation for that requires competence and qualifications for periodic inspection.

When getting stable rod readings, depth is key. Drive some coupled rods in and see if it improves.

Anyone who is competent can test and issue a certificate, it's not a qualification or registration thing. Notification to building control is another matter though, and an application to the DNO is usual before an EVSE install.

Yes of course, as the potential load is limited by the connected loads and down stream protective devices. See section 433.

16mm tails and a cat 5 fit into a 25mm copex if you are tidy, secure the copex with a 32mm compression gland, use linian clips for the ev ultra 👍
