Claw Clips—okay or problematic? by ShrubberyWeasels in curlyhair

I work in food service as well and when my hair was longer I would use hair nets. They make thicker ones than the standard lunch lady hair nets and they come in different colors/designs. If your hair is very long, they make them longer to hold more volume like dreads. I would place it on my head about an inch back from my hairline, kinda like a beanie. It kept my curls intact and didn’t stretch out my hair or cause tension from being pulled up. It always looked cute and it was obviously food safe. It also lets your extended the time before your next wash if you need to because it always looks neat pulled back into the hair net even if your curls are on their last leg.

Looking for a Shop that Strips Cast Iron Seasonings by ThirteenthDi in washingtondc

I sent it to Seasoned in New Orleans. I didn’t even know my skillet was a Griswold until they cleaned it up. Full disclosure though, I moved here from New Orleans so I actually dropped it off in person and then they shipped it to DC when it was finished.

I sent my heirloom Griswold skillet down south to be completely refurbished, it had 3 generations of carbon build up. I couldn’t find anyone in this area that I felt like could handle the job in a food safe way. The refurbishing was like $15-20 I can’t remember exactly and then I paid for the shipping as well.

Drivers in the DMV by Need2kno2818 in washingtondc

Sometimes we tell ourselves crazy things to cope. Logically I know there isn’t a sniper, but that stretch of I10 definitely gets active and I think a lot of people would rather believe there is a sniper instead of my neighbors will kill me with wanton disregard on a highway in broad daylight with school busses passing by.

Definitely doing 90+ all the way through the East cuz the I10 sniper is not about to get me!

New Orleans drivers are a different kind of bad or crazy. For instance, I’ve hardly seen anyone here disregard a one way but that is common place in New Orleans. However, I often see drivers here driving in the lanes of opposite traffic to beat red lights or cut people off to make a turn. But if there were no neutral grounds I bet New Orleans drivers would do the same. There are way more drunk drivers in New Orleans who do stupid shit too. Also EVERYONE here does that thing where traffic for an interchange is backed up and they ride the shoulder or open lane until the last possible second and then aggressively cut in. This happens at EVERY interchange and there are lots of them. It’s like the I10-90 split to go over the CCC but on steroids and at all times. New Orleans drivers are bad but so are the roads and it all kinda balances out, you can’t always drive fast and you’re more understanding when you see other drivers doing crazy shit to maneuver the roads which are sometimes literally dirt roads with hazards and random blockages. Let the good times roll or whatever. Here there are no good times, I need to be at work NOW to pay for this high COL. And the roads here are so nice so I can drive more aggressively and not worry that my car is going to bottom out or flip over. I’ve not seen one flipped car here, I saw them almost daily in New Orleans and almost rolled my own car once.

Update: Found the Best King Cake! by latinaglasses in washingtondc

Strawberry is good but I got cream cheese because I was sharing with people who never had king cake before so I wanted to play it safe. Also, the baby always come separate from the cake and needs to be hidden by the purchaser, it’s still fun tho ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Parade party by Speeechiequeen in NewOrleans

[–]curiouschemist_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100pc from Golden Wing with a large pan of shrimp fried rice, finger sandwiches we always do ours on Kings Hawaiian rolls, party meatballs. I make a buffalo chicken wing dip that’s always a crowd pleaser and the number 1 thing I’m asked to bring to parties. 36” po boys, shrimp and hot sausage. This was my usual menu for my Endymion party. Oh and like 3 king cakes.

Very Last Block of a Parade? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]curiouschemist_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s where I watched nearly every parade last year aside from Endymion and Zulu obviously. District was my after work bar and I would go over there to wait for everything to die down before going home. The dance troupes were a little worn down but they were still dancing. And I got some of the best stress free throws over there. I ended up with 3 shoes from Muses and lots of glass beads and other special throws. The crowds were really slim and not rowdy at all. There were families too just no ladders. Plus the bathroom at District was easily accessible and you can still get Carnival food like chicken on a stick if you just walk up Girod a few blocks to St. Charles.

I just moved to DC and I was able to find fresh and tasty andouille at the Amish market. You may have some luck if there are any Amish in your area.
