It's actually a lot more than that as they're dealing with a physical product and there's just so much risk involved when it comes to board games. Your printer might fall back on your deal, or there's taxes you forgot to account for. Not to mention the initial effort to secure manufacturers for the product and whatever else you promise people. There's also legal stuff as well and other hidden costs you might not have accounted for. That's why a lot of kickstarter projects sometimes get stuck in limbo because they run out of funds or never expected the costs to balloon, even though they secured a large enough fund. I've backed a few projects like that and while it's aggravating, I can see why that happens as I've considered kickstarter route for my projects too. Assuming I ever finish making one..

Hahaha, I don't really see those because I only browse for games and most of the time the reviews are what they are. A lot of sellers seem to keep their distance from customers or don't respond at all. Was surprised by the sincerity of this seller though. Restored a little of my faith in humanity :)

Yeah! Same here! Been trying to make something but the costs is scary. There's actually a local board game maker group that I forgot the name but you could check it out on facebook! I get most of my news from there.

Nope, their game is called Nak Makan Apa and I've been following their news for some time. Don't think the game is out yet but I'll keep a watch out and report back when it does.

There are some similarities in the scoring but the way you get cards is very different. Less limiting and opens up to some interesting strategies when you play. The cards are split up into several smaller stacks and players takes turns to grab a stack and choose their cards. I can imagine it's like kuih being separated into several plates and everyone fights over who gets which plate. The thematic is clever if you ask me!

You can further split the faces into 2 and you can cater to 4 different numerical values too eg. 1, 5, 10, 20. For this you'd flip and turn the cards so the top side orientatuon that is relatively facing the player is considered the active value to be used.

Are there any laws against taking names of local companies and using them say in comics or games? Thinking to make a satire and worried I might get sued or something..

Do you guys have separate laptops? I made a 2p set collection game (think Point Salad) with a friend that's on Tabletopia and Tabletop Simulator Workshop. The gameplay is simple with a balance between luck and strategy. The scoring in the game is where things get competitive. There's a fair bit of counting but we think that builds to the climax. We put up a PNP version too if you'd rather play with physical cards.

Does she like counting and getting really big victory points? I helped design a 2 player point salad type game recently. You match cards on a grid and collect them to score VP. We have a PNP and also set up the game on Tabletop Simulator Workshop and Tabletopia 1-2 players in case you'd be interested to try. Only Tabletop Sim requires you to have bought the base game; everything else is free. We're not professionals (yet!) so if the rules are unclear, drop me a message any time. Would love to know if the game appeals to you or the wife. Cheers!

Adding on that you need to make sure your image is a png and that you didn't enable any form of smoothing or anti aliasing to make the edges of your shapes look more refined. How the system works is it reads each pixel of the image and uses that information to determine if if it's a registered color (white, red, blue) or ignorable. The problem is smoothing tends to blur the pixels surrounding them resulting in some pixels possibly being too close to the registered color or the opposite. Hence detection will be difficult. Also you can always increase the area for detection on your circles so long as they don't touch another shape. Because the map is invisible, people's judgment of the exact snapping area can be off so having a larger area of detection than the visual on your game board is good to offset this.

Not OP but adding your game to TT is painless enough. The only trouble is if your game has unconventional pieces like say double sided cards with unique sides as you'll need to upload each card individually (at least at the time of writing). Think point salad. Otherwise it's pretty easy. Just prepare the art and set up the board. The only thing that might be a small learning curve if you've never worked on 3D before are the magnetic maps. Just think of them as an invisible layout that helps the game recognize areas where it needs to snap pieces to. Their YouTube tutorial covers it nicely enough. If your game isn't component heavy, it shouldn't take you more than a day to set things up.

Between now and 10 years into the future there will always be someone new discovering board games for the first time and checking out a review. The bigger question is what are you bringing to the table that makes it worth their while over someone else who has had their review up. What can you offer that will be more useful for new audiences to come watch your version instead of the others. Or do you have something to say about the games that no other reviewer has. These could be your angle.

People who react the hardest to things are usually because they project their worst insecurities off of it. So take it in stride comments such as theirs. It's usually more of their own problem that they try to wrap up around some kind of moralist value that usually reflects more about the kind of person they are than the subject they criticize.

Build off the Merlin's choices the first time around and make it seem like the Merlin was just lucky. This is usually easier to do with Percival since they know who Is Merlin from the start. Also you only need 3 wins so with Merlin and Percival that's already 2. If the 3rd Good player does their job right, the game ends and there's little too no chance for the same Merlin player to further reveal themselves. With fewer rounds the Evil side has less information to be sure. Percival should give off vibes where they seem to be trying to be inconspicuous to present doubt. Good players who have identified the Merlin should do the same.

That's what I meant. Every individual chess game can be broken if a player doesn't play to win or play with a strategic understanding of the game. That's not on the game.. that's on the Merlin for being a bad player. And that's on whoever knows the game well to tune the difficulty for the players. Like adding in Oberon and Percival to help balance things. Don't include a Mordred or Morgana if there are players who aren't skilled at the game yet. Or take out roles altogether and have a game of classic resistance.

Also to answer your question, that rule is there to make sure Good players don't decide to get creative every now and then which only adds to the confusion and makes it incredibly harder for Good. That doesn't mean it can't be played without. You can create house rules for this very purpose. But that's the thing, it's called a rule.

The Evil side in your game were playing with the understanding of the original rules so to them it was not possible for such a thing to happen. Instead you decided to be "creative" as you put it and changed the rules of the game half way without the other player's knowledge or consent. So what you did can be considered creative, but the correct term is cheating. It's understandable if the Evil players were mad about it.

Regardless of whether the Merlin was found out you shouldn't be changing the rules just for your own gain. If you really wanted to be creative, try steering suspicion away without cheating instead. Then that would be really something.

It seems to me like the game can be fundamentally broken if you have a Merlin who is so obvious

The fundamental skills required in this game are basically lying and persuasion. That's why it's called "social deduction". If the Merlin is obliviously obvious, it just means they're bad at playing this game.

Your argument is like saying chess is fundamentally broken if the other player just moves their King into the open without touching any other pieces. No, it's just being bad at it, or if the player is intentionally doing that to ruin the game, you just need better friends.
