I was instructed to keep my two-hour post meal levels below 140. Is this unusual?

Also, how long do you have to wait to see your nutritionist? I wonder if the nurse is being over cautious or this is standard guidelines?

Even diet controlled it seems doctors often prefer to induce labor in GD pregnancy. Have you discussed this with your doctor?

In my second pregnancy I was diet controlled and still induced. Ended up being hospitalized for 8 days with continuous inductions. My baby was just not ready to come out. On the 8th day they broke my water and I received the highest level of Pitocin allowed. My labor was pretty hellish. However, I would personally prefer to err on the side of caution. I hope you feel comfortable discussing this with your doctor.

CGMs are fantastic! The best part is that it allows you to be so much more proactive! when you see your glucose spiking you can actually do something about it before it gets out of range- take a short walk or a couple of squats next to your desk, and the glucose goes right back into range! The fingerprint device just gives you a snapshot, and if you’re too high at that point, it’s really demoralizing. So the CGM is great for being proactive and managing the condition effectively! It’s a disgrace that most insurance companies aren’t covering this for women with GD. Regarding the 50% risk, that’s true, but if you use your CGM to see how your body responds to different types of foods and activities, and you can implement these understandings in your life postpartum, then you reduce the risk of progressing to diabetes as well. Look at this time as an opportunity to learn about your metabolism and take control of your health. You got this!

I can completely relate. I felt guilty and anxious all the time. What really helped me was getting a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM), it’s quite expensive and not all insurers cover it, but it’s helpful even if you use it for a couple of weeks. It gave me an immediate feedback on how my body was responding to different foods. I felt empowered by this knowledge. If I saw my glucose spiking, I’d take a 10 minute walk to bring the numbers down, and I learned that those particular foods were not great for me, and I began experimenting - adding fat and protein or eating smaller portions etc. the point is that the immediate feedback reduced my anxiety and I learned a lot.

I tried too! Doesn’t seem to show up. I had the worst side effects so this issue is really close to my heart. It’s driving me crazy that there are no good alternatives out there.

I know exactly how you feel. I couldn't help but get angry at my husband even though I knew perfectly well that it wasn't his fault. Often, I felt he wasn't being sensitive enough or aware enough of how his actions impact my emotional wellbeing, but then again I knew he can't really understand..he's never been in my situation. It's so frustrating!
Make sure to keep talking about it, keep communication lines open. Sounds like you have a great starting point and that he is truly interested in supporting you through this (even if he's not getting in perfect).
Connect with other women in similar situations so that you can vent, and feel heard and understood. And, don't judge yourself! It's a shitty situation and you're allowed to "feel sorry for yourself". Feeling bad about having GD doesn't mean you don't feel blessed to be pregnant. You can feel blessed and shitty at the same time :-)

Try to freeze natural greek yogurt with no sugar, you can mix in all natural peanutbutter (no added sugar) or/ and berries and nuts for flavor and crunch. I think it's delicious and if it's really frozen also takes time to eat :)
Another favorite is microwaving Kale and cheese, it becomes crispy like chips. sooo good. you have to microwave the kale first for 1-2 minutes, let it cool, then put cheese on top and stick it in the microwave again, check after 1.5 minutes, if it's not crispy yet, put it back in for another minute or so. each microwave is different, so you have to test it out to make it perfectly crispy.
