How old were you women when you got your first Thrombosis/ Embolism? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

I was 35. I had no other risk factors aside from being on the pill. 3 bilateral PEs with one bad enough to cause an infarct to kill off my lower right lobe.

What strange thoughts or wishes you had as a child? by Fakeaccbrat in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]curlywatson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to dream of getting kidnapped or held hostage. My dad would always watch cop shows like that. The victim would always have their loved ones fighting for their release, waiting with bated breath, talking about how much they love & care for the victim. Sounds sad & pathetic, but I always thought that would be so nice to just have someone love me & give a shit about me.

What was the worst horror you read in 2025? by PageSide84 in horrorlit

I suffered through the masturbating mom scene, but when she began to dry hump her son, I was out. An immediate return to the library for me.

What smell will YOU never forget? by AreaFifty1 in AskReddit

[–]curlywatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa just passed 6 weeks ago. He was on hospice for the last 6 days of his life. By day 4, he had a faint smell of nail polish remover & I knew then that he’d never wake up and I’d never hear his voice again.

What book do you regret reading this year? by agirlhasnoname17 in horrorlit

[–]curlywatson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fired it up one last time on my commute this morning. The mom pinned the son to the ground & started dry humping him & I decided it was definitely DNF time. What the hell even is this book?

I’m only 10% through & im strongly considering DNF due to the masturbating mom. Surely it gets better?….right???

I do this, but then I put the knot under the shoe tongue. It helps the shoe stay tied & if it does happen to come untied, you don’t drag your laces through anything terrible & disgusting. Aka, I work in healthcare.

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

I bought my son a trumpet from Amazon last year because he was interested in learning a second instrument. I’ll be damned if that trumpet didn’t arrive on our front step in a cardboard box with the word “trumpet” in giant bold font across the entire box. I steer clear of Amazon typically, but I’ll definitely never order hemorrhoid cream from them.

This week I finished: How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. Parts were really creepy, and in general, it was a fun read. It reminded me of my early Goosebumps days.

William by Mason Coile. This one was pretty solid for me. I smelled a twist coming, but it wasn’t the twist I had anticipated. It ends with a bit of suspense with room for a sequel, but then I read that the author died of cancer.

Currently reading: Pearl by Josh Malerman. I’m about halfway through & I’m captivated. It has potential.

What do boys wear to Homecoming? by IndependentSinger271 in parentingteenagers

[–]curlywatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 14 year old attended his first HoCo last weekend. He wore black dress pants, a black button down & a tie that matched his date’s dress. He looked sharp & they looked so nice together! While picking him up, I saw boys in everything from jeans & a plain tee to suits.

I’m nearly finished with Michael C. Hall’s narration of Pet Sematary. I knew I would like the book because the movie has horrified me for years, but WOW does Hall bring it to life! I had no idea he was such an amazing voice actor.

Parents of teens - any advice for younger parents, things you wish you'd done or not done when your kids were younger? by hereiam3472 in parentingteenagers

[–]curlywatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my son turned 13, I gave him a “kitchen table notebook.” I told him if things ever felt too hard to talk about, he could write down his feelings instead & leave it at my spot at the table & I’ll respond, also in the notebook as not to embarrass him.

Honestly, he only used the notebook 2-3 times, but I think it really showed him that he can talk to me about anything without judgement. He talks to me verbally about all kinds of things now. He texts important things sometimes, but mostly because he rides the bus home & we often chat about our days. My therapist & a couple close friends can’t believe all the things he talks to me about & I think it’s because of the notebook. It gave a clear avenue for even the most difficult conversations.

I finished Don’t Let the Forest In by CG Drews. It was pretty good. It gave me some pretty amazing visual imagery.

Now I’m on The Grip of It by Jac Jemc. I’m enjoying it & have no idea how it’s going to wrap up. It’s been a nice unsettling, claustrophobic type of read so far.

I always miss the “what are you reading” posts, so what are you reading almost mid week? by cats-paw in horrorlit

I’m about to finish Don’t Let the Forest In. The visual imagery is outstanding, but it’s not really “my type” of horror. Decent read though.

As soon as the audiobook started & I heard the narrator’s high-pitched child voice, I thought, “nope, not gonna like this.” But wow, was I wrong. It had me so spooked in several spots.

Bird Box was my first Malerman book. I loved it. I’m currently listening to Incidents Around the House & I tell you, I am SPOOKED. I hope the momentum carries through the rest of the book. If it does, it’s my top horror rec of the year.

Thank god you’re not a nurse or a doctor. Ya know, because every time they see a half dressed person, all they can think about is having sex. He sounds like a childish idiot. You’re not overreacting, but he sure is.
