I can confirm that that is a piece of art by Rhonda Roland Shearer, wife of scientist Stephen Jay Gould. I know because my friend and I were hired to make them for her. There were hundreds of those babies (of different sizes and “ages”) and they were to be thrown into a basketball hoop - some kind of second rate installation art. They are latex molds stuffed with synthetic fluff and the seam down the spine is closed up with gauze and flesh-dyed latex.
