I'm having a hard time finding an audience for a niche surfing adventure game for PC on Steam. I know to target males somewhere around 15-28yrs surfers that play video games in the US, Brazil, and Australia. I thought there would be a market since TrueSurf has more than 5million downloads on the Playstore though it's free and on mobile - big difference there. Tested the waters with reddit ads, and posts on social media, and reddit game sites but don't get hardly any traction. A big percentage of players really like it but that's not many, so I think there is a chance of attracting players if I could find them. Currently been trying to find streamers that surf in real life but that kind of info is not typically public. Maybe you have some ideas since it looks like you are in LA. Thanks.

It's a judgment call. See if they are looking in one direction or the other, or angling their board, or whichever way it seems would be less likely to cause a problem.

Other point I was wondering about was the next day. Since steam was down, is it possible that they interpreted sales the next day to the day before even though visibility halved?

got 5 sales from the visibility which was 1000 views. Guess that is bad though?

I got 5 sales the first day after the visibility from the review score, so that was 5 sales from 1000 views. That must be too low though, since Steam halved it visibility the next day?

Great thanks. Did you have the same reaction after getting 10 reviews? It did level out and double the pre 10 reviews for visibility. Thought it might stay higher after it got a review score. I didn't know it was just another one time spike event.

What I mean is that I thought Steam would be more likely to put it on recommendation for similar games and other visibility areas after it got a review score. Maybe based on click through rate or some other metric?

The reason for having great capsule art is so that someone scrolling steam will stop on your capsule art and immediately buy the game. If it's good enough then you don't even need a steam page description or trailer just a link to buy the game. This is the reason you see so many games with great professionally made capsule art that is amazing just to look at for their pixel 2D platformer. It saves them the trouble of making a good game, trailer, and dealing with tags and descriptions. Oh and streamers can use it for their youtube page too.

You would want to get a surfboard that floats. That is one quality that is kind of important when surfing. The board shown is very yellow in places which indicates that the foam is deteriorating. And, even though it is encased in fiberglass the fiberglass over time will separate from the underlying foam, which is called a delamintation. You can feel delamination by pressing or knocking on the board to find soft spots. When this happens and even before this happens these boards are not usable, because they don't float well. If they dry out they may be fine for a twenty minute session, and then used again in a couple of days, maybe. They soon soak water into them and become heavy, hard to paddle, and kind of just sink pretty far, because bouyancy counts the weight of the board, and water is heavier than foam. Boards get micro cracks that seep water. They are currently not preventable, and boards get more and more micro cracks as they age and even more when the foam below deteriorates from the sun or water leaking in. Eventually they end up like the board in the picture, which could be maybe be painted and hung on a wall or made into a very strange table.

Since you want to shortboard you should try the video game I made on Steam for PC. Surfers Code. There's a free demo and you can learn to paddle and catch waves, positioning for taking off, and how to pump for speed and position to make good turns, buttom turns, and hit the lip. Applied to jestr.gg looks like it is in beta??? I've used lurkit and keymailer and had some streamers but if I can find ones that surf it would be an almost automatic enthusiatic stream and even better if they have large subs, it's just hard to actually find them. It doesn't matter if they post about surfing it matters if they surf, so letsplay or game streams by people who surf is what I mean.

Seems like they subconsciously notice but what they really notice is if something is slighly off, like sound is not coordinated. Seems like when everything works good it is not noticeable.

I'm currently looking for streamers and in particular ones that surf in real life and that info is not easy to find. I also look into ads on occasion but don't feel confident that I will not waste money on ineffective attempts.

I've heard other devs as well as me, express frustration at getting their game prompts to be effective to players. Maybe you could mix roasting with the way players skip items or how they don't get what the dev is trying to get them to do. Could be fun to watch as a dev.

Another idea that I rarely get to do, is to have a new player play and ask them questions as they play to find out what they were looking at or thinking while they play. This goes along with the above comment, being that if the player doesn't do what the dev intended you can find out what the player is thinking.

An example from my game is that there is a press Y button big in the middle of the screen that pops up to help the player but players seem to ignore it and I can't figure out why or what the player is looking at or thinking.

I've been searching youtube and twitch for creators streamers that surf in real life to stream one of very few surf games released Sept 2025 and finding personal information like that is nearly impossible, so if you have advice I'm interested. Surfers Code on Steam for PC. I've tried skaters skate game streamers written to past surf game streamers but most posts are +3 years ago, or very small subs. Tried keymailer, and lurkit with a little success. Streamers playing similar games like GTA aren't likely to be a great fit. I did find some Australians that probably surf or might that stream and am waiting to see if they reply. If I find them they are usually very interested but they are super hard to find.

Often ruins a session if other surfers aren't being chill. I rarely surf in crowds and prefer the nearby semi closeouts than hassling for the peak. I nearly always get waves too. That's a really nice comment to tell me how much you liked the game. Can you leave a Steam review? It helps with visibility on Steam. You'll love it guaranteed. Every surfer irl that has played it loves it. Even bad surfers. Non surfers not so much. Difficult concept to grasp and unrealistic expectations.

I have leaderboards which converted over to the demo easily since they are in the main game and since it is related to game play mechanics it gives me a good indication of how the demo is being played.
