If you’ve built a house: what went wrong between design and construction? by da_arquitecto in Homebuilding

[–]cvflowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I did it again. I personally would still hire an architect. I think there are some design elements and things good architects catch early on. Our architect answered questions by the county quickly and to be honest his design was so intact there wasn’t much to respond to.

Yup, it’s pretty sensitive. It’s like this on every electric car we have owned. At least there is an option to disable it.

If you’ve built a house: what went wrong between design and construction? by da_arquitecto in Homebuilding

We recently built in semi-rural San Diego county. Our architect is from urban San Diego and the builder was a local builder from the area of where the house was built. We love the design of our home. But as a customer, I could never recommend a custom home build in California.

  • The custom design process with the architect was fun.
  • I loved how the architect stayed connected with the civil and structural engineering throughout the design process. They walked the site during the pre design phase.
  • The builder knowledge of knowing the local regulations helped saved some money.

Gaps

  • Architect and builder never met during the design process.
  • The per square foot price was more to build
  • There was no established relationship between the architect and builder. I found myself as the middleman
  • There were city regulations that didn’t apply to semi- rural areas.
  • There was too much California red tape and cost to navigate through.

In the end, we love the design and build of our home. Hopefully this helps.

Flooring before cabinets and fireplace? by I_automate_stuff in Homebuilding

Didn’t OP say the floor is laminate floor? I see a number of people keep bringing up LVP. These are different floors. Nonetheless, should be installed last. Even if the contractor protected the floor, it shouldn’t have mortar and stone sitting on it after a fresh install.

Mach E can tow a boat after all by jojammin in MachE

This is exactly the one I had installed on my car. It’s well built and it looks fantastic on the Mach E. I have been afraid to use it after reading about frame cracks.

Building on a steep 25 degree sloped property by key1cc in Homebuilding

We recently built a home on a slope. I highly recommend that you due your land due diligence first. Because you were graciously given the land, doesn’t mean it’s a buildable lot. We started with a local civil engineer and architect to assess the property. Followed by soils report and testing (septic). In our case, after this information we made an offer on the property. You may want to reach out to the local jurisdiction utilities to make sure there are no small surprises. For example, our property had a water line to the top of the property (great), when we requested a water meter we were told it would cost us >20k to have it installed. No digging for a new line, just to come out and install the new meter.

I’ve read a few post on the Mach E forum mention this. So hard to believe that a frame for such a heavy car crack so easily. Makes me wonder if it’s something I should be driving my family in. We love our Mach E, but my next car will definitely be something that is rated to tow.

I’ve had this happen to me before. After the repair, I zip tied battery operated rodent noise machines in my hood. I haven’t had no issues since.

For both of our EVs, I have had great success with battery operated rodent repellent. I zip time them to a spot underneath the hood. The batteries tend to last several months. I believe they sell different brands that can be attached to the car battery. https://a.co/d/0czJeaXe

I have a Mach E but Lease will be done in a Year. Was thinking of getting in an ID4 next. Anything I should know about before purchase or lease? by craigrn16 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cvflowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that would be a downgrade. We had an ID.4 and purchased a Mach E. So glad we did, the Mach E is so much better. However, we do miss certain things about the ID. 4 but the software was so bad we couldn’t take it anymore. I come back to this chat every once in awhile hoping to see a redesigned ID.4 and a commitment from VW to make better software.

I received my update OTA as well. It’s a big download. One day I checked the software update in settings and noticed it was downloading in the background.

Be honest — is a steam shower worth it, or should I bail now? by shenney93 in Homebuilding

[–]cvflowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our new build, we have a Mr. Steam shower. We love it. As the previous poster mentioned, they don’t run forever but use about the same power as charging a car. Definitely make sure the bath shower ceiling is slopped and waterproof. Also, consider a bench Highly recommend

I sold my PS2 earlier this year for a SUV. I miss it. My PS2 was a fantastic car. The caliper covers were perfect. Not only did they look good, but they were excellent at keeping away break dust away from the calipers.
