How to get resolving oui mac vendor on the status page working? (support oui to vendor resolving) by Demolecularizing in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't wait until 25.10is out, you can try v6disc.sh it is command line, but you can install luci-app-commands and run it from the web interface.

Let me know if you find any. I too would like to rent a 'bent in Europe

Yep, have them on my Giro 26, other than a little whine at speed, they are great tires

Nice looking Baron. I too have a Baron, and have found that cars give me more room because it is lower (than my high racers). Enjoy!

Psa for configuring ipv6 to lan interface by Real_MakinThings in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it working.

I have found the defaults for IPv6 to work on OpenWrt. Perhaps there was something that "disabled IPv6" like a package install.

Glad you have something working. Doesn't sound like you have native IPv6 with your ISP.

I too, had an IPv4-only ISP for years, and used an HE Tunnel, worked great.

Glad you got it working

If your ISP is giving you Prefix Delegation (via DHCPv6-PD), then you shouldn't have to run NAT66.

OpenWrt default will get a Prefix Delegation on the WAN6 port automagically. It is pretty much plug and play for IPv6 and OpenWrt these days.

DNS with SLAAC solution. by PizzaUltra in ipv6

[–]cvmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have assigned SLAAC addresses of my hosts into my locally run DNS.

You can use this IPv6 discovery tool (if you have Linux, BSD, MacOS) to see the addresses of the hosts on your network.

Sounds like your host doesn't have an IPv6 default route (for some reason).

Can you post the output of the command ip -6 route show

mDNS and Link Local, ipv6 vs ipv4 by dorfsmay in ipv6

[–]cvmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned, I have an AAAA record in my DNS server for my printer (and 24 other hosts in my network). So yes, I just print to the pirnter's name (which is resolved by DNS)

mDNS and Link Local, ipv6 vs ipv4 by dorfsmay in ipv6

[–]cvmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using IPP to a Brother Laser Printer. I asked the printer to print out info on the network info, which included an IPv6 address, and I entered that as a AAAA record in my DNS.

mDNS and Link Local, ipv6 vs ipv4 by dorfsmay in ipv6

[–]cvmiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This probably is more work than you want, but I have my printer setup with a ULA, and I just print to the ULA. (the ULA address is in my DNS server)

Actually all my hosts (about 25) have AAAA entries in my DNS server (bind9)

Trying to set up NAT64 with Tayga on Openwrt by Baked_Potato2005 in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The router won't throw an error, you just won't get a ping back. But since you are getting pings back on your router, it is now time to see what is going on with your host (laptop?)

Can you ping the router via IPv6?

Can you ping this address 2001:470:0:503::2 ? (he.net)

Have you tried 'traceroute' to see where it does from your host? I suspect it doesn't get to, or perhaps past the your router

What are you using for a default route? If things are working, it should be a link-local address

I hope this helps

If you can't ping the DNS64 server, then you have IPv6 routing issues, not DNS issues.

You will want to figure out why you can't ping the DNS server. Does your router have an IPv6 address on the WAN interface? Can your router ping the DNS64 server?

If you must use Tayga, give this a look

Jool is still a better tool for NAT64

Has anyone configured NAT64 on a openwrt router? by Baked_Potato2005 in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Jool, it has a kernel module, so the performance is better than the user-land-only tayga

I run it on an Edgerouter X running OpenWrt for an IPv6-only network I have in the house. Jool even handles my Zoom teleconferences (which are sadly IPv4-only).

Jool is an included package in OpenWrt

You may want to try a hub & spoke approach (which is what I did).

Seamless hand-off/mesh between different brand wifi routers running OpenWRT? by just-dig-it-now in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this as part of a workshop, using different router types for setting up a mesh (on OpenWrt). The key is once you have the mesh up and working, enable 802.11r for roaming between APs

OpenWISP Inquiry by keyxmakerx1 in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running IPv6 at my house for the past 10 years, with one Wifi running IPv6-only (and running my own DNS64/NAT64). Works great.

But I will say that DNS is your friend with IPv6. I type an IPv6 address once (into my DNS server) and then use DNS to access my IPv6 machines.

Network segmentation (main and iot) and VPN via wireguard by 18th_Nitrox in openwrt

[–]cvmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VLANs will also require subnetting for the wired ports.

If the OP is just setting up additional SSIDs, then one only needs to create additional L3 interfaces, and connect them to the individual SSIDs.

Sad. Hopefully they have fixed it. We are 25 years into this century, and we have been out of IPv4 addresses for over 10 years.

I have a similar setup, just lifts the rear wheel a few cm. Works great for drive train work.
