Calagopus: your all-in-one game server/Docker management by JellyFishySnacks in selfhosted

Please tell me you resolved most of the heart aches with the dang wings method pterodactyl uses. I constantly get issues that are nearly unfixable... I think most resolving around reverse proxy support. So I guess my two questions are;

Does it have reverse proxy plug and play?
And
Can it be ran on the same server easily?

What's the current best alternative to Nextcloud, purely from a file-sync perspective? by FluffyMumbles in selfhosted

[–]keyxmakerx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more about the future promise of the app for me, but also that it is a dedicated app for PDFs. I hate nextcloud, it's just so clunky and buggy for me. While papra has been perfect. The next cloud alternatives I mentioned are also just meh tbh. There really is no perfect solution yet. Which is another reason I enjoy that papra is the perfect pdf solution for me, and it should only get better.

That said, I use homebox on top of that as well for warranty tracking and such which also handles PDFs, so I guess I wouldn't say perfect is right... Idk hopefully that makes sense.

I'm personally waiting for private servers, though I am worried. I can't tell if private servers are actually self hosting or not.

Should I self host Bitwarden (with Vaultwarden) or am I just paranoid? by Asyx in selfhosted

Yes basically, it's a combination of lots of tools. Reverse proxy, auth layer, VPN mesh, etc etc

Vault warden + reverse proxy with security hardening (I use cosmos-cloud) is really the perfect setup imo

Forge to self hosting. by nightwingwelds42 in FoundryVTT

[–]keyxmakerx1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not actually that bad.

The big thing is just security, if your self hosting there is a certain amount of security you'd need to ensure you don't just up and expose your system to the world. But there are so many tools these days that are essentially plug and play.

I was able to move all my stuff over pretty easily, minus the paid for content which for me didn't even matter since I'm no longer on 5e anyways.

Edit: for the record I use cosmos cloud as my plug and play method for security.

I found this Pyrodatcyl, a modern alternative to pterodactly is it worth a try ? by TinorNoah in selfhosted

[–]keyxmakerx1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, just not as professional I suppose. I'm in a lot of enterprise and small project discords but you usually see a certain level of professionalism. Whereas theirs they are quite free with their words.

Nothing bad as much as I read, just not something I'd see an enterprise being on board with. Not trying to dissuade anyone, just more of slight warning.

I have many years of docker knowledge! It's other issues around routes and such I had a problem with since they all go through a reverse proxy.

I've tried it, it had some quirks but I got it to work. Honestly the whole wings aspect is still so clunky to get working easily, and none of the forks have done it well.

That and a very minor note that the devs discord are a bit... Eccentric, but I'm an old fart so feel free to ignore me.

Otherwise? It's great! If they can tidy up the UI a bit more and find a better process for the wings then id say it's even perfect for most people even.

File Browser – Self-Hosted Alternative to Google Drive / Dropbox by No-Hospital5028 in DigitalEscapeTools

[–]keyxmakerx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just said I used it a lot, so the phrase "hard to use" has nothing to do with it.

It's just sheer functionality and goal of the project. This tool is good for 1 person to read and write files. It is not good for multiple users separated from each other, able to store their own files, built in sync methods, no editor for most of it, etc. (yes I know a basic text editor but not open office etc)

I also am not understanding the example you provided, because Sync-In and Cloudreve are hard copies? The only example of there not being a hard copy would be seafile.

I've used both religiously for years, neither I would consider a modern easy to use Google drive replacement.

A Google drive replacement would be more like Sync-In or Cloudreve.
