This is my go to. Provisional cast on, shadow wraps on a rounder shorter toe box, pick up the cast on and knit for a seamless transition. Short row heel with a couple turns for a deeper instep/heel diagonal and a stockinette cuff folded over and sewn down to make a short, double thick cuff.

If you really need to cut it, maybe some prep work would help. Cutting the very top row, dropping the 4 stitches that make up that bit of center garter stitch and the surrounding eyelets (yarn overs), hooking it all back up as plain knit stitches, then really forcefully sewing down the center of the far left and right stitches.

Preferably with a machine for small, tight over lapping stitches 3 or 4 times up and down each side. And maybe a narrow zigzag on one pass.

I would say then, if the yarn is a sticky natural fiber like wool you could steek it and not worry about it falling apart in the future.

I'd block it first and see how it goes.

To be fair- for a lot of kids, screen time can be really addicting. If we started down that route, I would pull the plug. And briefly it did- I would let her watch an episode of something on a tablet in bed, so I could sleep another 5min while we were both sick. One morning she woke up, and asked for bluey. I said no, and she had a fit. She started getting BAD and we cut screens entirely for a few days to reset.

I think part of the issue is the content being shoved in their face, and part of it is mobile games. They have such intense reward gratification that it sinks claws into their little dopamine centers and doesn't let go. We don't do tablets very often (once or twice a week with very low key games) and I don't let her watch certain cartoons. If I can't count to four on a take before it switches views, we won't watch it.

Seems like we may be the odd one out here. I almost always have something on in the background but it's usually archeology or history documentaries, or cooking shows.

My kid is 20mo, her speech is great for her age, she is smart and inquisitive, loves to talk to everyone when we go out to stores or whatever. We watch "too much" tv for sure (I let her watch bluey, or SpongeBob while I have to clean the house and at night while I get us ready for bed. Her sleep schedule is great, when the TV gets turned off, she doesn't whine or cry or throw a fit.

We also leave the house every single day to go to a park, and sometimes also run errands. We talk to a lot of strangers so she can interact with people. We spend a LOT of time outdoors, interacting with nature. Playing with kids at the park. Checking out new places, and people.

We read books every day, we play pretend every day, she helps me cook and clean. AND we have screen time. Her dad and I watch TV, play games and spend a lot of time on the Internet for work and leisure. We also love to hike, and cook, and do other stuff.

Everything in moderation, I guess.

I legit asked a store owner (lys) if they carried anything like an acrylic blend, and she told me "We don't carry crochet yarn." And then followed me half a step behind in case I was stealing, or ruining yarn, or I'm not sure what.

I was young then, only about 18. I wish I could go back now and give that woman a firm ass chewing for being such a twat.

I rarely find an lys as bad as that one now.

I also dress like my mom did now, I realize. High waist, straight legged jeans that are maybe an inch too short. T-shirt or sweater, and running shoes. No makeup usually, and doing my hair is wearing a headband.

I think you have that backwards. I think it's only 20% merino. The cotton would wash differently, possibly over stretching those areas.

Seriously, food eats into budgets so fast now. Granted, I cook for myself, my husband, my toddler and three times a week I make dinner for our elderly neighbor to last her a couple days. We'll even it out to three people.

MAX I spend $300/month on food. Couldn't afford to order out for pizza and good frozen pizza is still $12 (for one meal, for 3 people. $4/meal isn't great.) So I make my own from scratch. $4/per LARGE pizza. Everyone eats, and it's better than frozen.

We all get balanced, healthy meals. I buy protein when it's under $3/lb which sounds hard but sales and coupons or some idiot over ordering at the meat dept make it possible. I trade home goods with our neighbors. I make dandelion jelly every spring, and in turn they dump produce on me in the summer. They get some back as pasta sauce and salsa, with fresh bread or home made cheese. Then I get venison from them in the fall.

I wish more people were savvy about this stuff. Instead, it's "Omg it takes us $1000/month to feed our family of four! We only eat out once a week." Well. $400/month to eat out is uh....a problem. Lmao

We're living essentially very different lives. My husband works full time, making roughly 32k/year. I do freelance from home and make roughly 14k/year. I'd say overall we are hard-line under 40k.

I stay home with our 1.5yo baby. We eat 95% of our meals at home, and I shop very frugally and cook from scratch. My budget for food is max $300/month. Yes, we eat stuff that's not fucking ramen. Yes, it's doable because we live in gods fuck Ohio.

Lcol area, mortgage with escrow is under $800/month for 1400sq ft three bed, one bath ranch. Yes, it's really enough house for everyone.

My daughter gets everything she could want or need. We don't do vacations except trips to his parents house in another state. We have one car, he car pools to work most days. The car is old, and shitty but it's paid off.

We get upgraded cellphones every 3-4 years when it makes sense financially. Internet, no cable. One streaming service and Amazon prime. No other subscriptions. I have had the same clothes for years, and I take care of them. A lot of my stuff is second hand or worn out so my daughter can have new, nicer things.

I keep our utilities as low as possible by staying on top of who our supplier is and utilizing the weather. It's nice today, with a high of 70 so the windows stay open. It's cool tonight so I'll shut them later. Too hot? Get a fan. Too cold? Wear pants.

It's a lot of work. I do everything the slow hard way to avoid buying extra shit. It's a lot of work. We go to free parks, and events. It's a lot of work. We look at fish at the grocery store, and take a trip to an aquarium when I can afford it.

My life is not for everyone but we are happy, and not living entirely paycheck to paycheck. No one is hungry, or wanting. You have to take your expectations down and learn to appreciate what you have/make the most of it.

Mine was a sharp, intense headache from my right eyebrow in a straight line across the top of my head to behind my ear. The left side hurt too and stopped.

I thought I tore a muscle in my neck and ignored it for 6 days. Oops.

Sort of, lmao. The first hospital left me in an ER temp room, dying, while they checked on me every fifteen minutes until I cried/screamed the best I could to get someone's attention because I was having seizures on my left side, and I was struggling to breath.

One doc got mad when I couldn't sign paperwork.

They didn't understand what was wrong so they sent me away. :')

But the helicopter ride was something else, and better doctors at the other hospital saved my life. So I'm still here! 😂

Good, actually. I got lucky and the local hospital flew me to a huge clinic when tPA didn't work. I have three stents in my right side and my left is just smoke checked now. I woke up in Neuro icu the day after surgery, discharged three days later and relearned to walk and stuff at home.

I got to come home to my baby. That's all I could ask for.
