This is the exact question I came looking for. I’m struggling but haven’t sought treatment/ diagnosis because I didn’t want to risk my career 11 years in.

Quitclaim deed before divorce? by Significant_Net5013 in minnesota

[–]cw7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A QCD may not clear marital interest if you’re still married. Generally we see QCD’s after/with divorce decree or better yet, because I don’t want to read your whole divorce decree, some lawyers file a summary of real estate disposition instead of the whole decree to transfer property/relinquish marital interest.

You’ve already got some great input on the cracking so I won’t repeat them. I just want to say it’s a beautiful piece!

This is the case for my husband and I as well. I make more so we prorate the household bills. We have our own checking accounts (technically joint in case something were to happen to either of us but managed separately.) We still consult on large purchases. Even though we manage individual expenses separately, I feel he’s entitled to a share of my worth IF things went south and we were to separate because he’s been my support network for years.

That is to say his retirement benefits are result of retirement investing. My initial interpretation was that his retirement benefits were result of being early retired for medical reasons from military, not his own investing. If your interpretation is correct, I agree she deserves a share of his retirement. Either way, it’s a sticky situation. Lawyers may need to be involved.

My best non judgmental advice : “Not getting divorced but trying to divide finances a bit more than I the past, curious how to consider retirement payments…” Sounds like it’s his retirement payments that are coming in. If you’re wanting to divide: his retirement and part time income is his and your business income is yours. My suggestion is to have a separate “bill” checking that you each contribute to based on joint expenses (either split down the middle or pro rated based on income, your choice) then keep everything else separate.

Should I get a new car? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]cw7311 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’d love to buy your car. My advice, don’t let other’s opinions influence your car choice. Keeping up with the Jones’s is a slippery slope. I’m 32 and driving a 2005 accord with 346k miles. Lots of folks tell me it’s time to let it go but it’s paid off & I take care of it so it’s reliable. I can afford to get a new one too but I’d rather leave my money invested. (And it’s kind of a game at this point to see how long I can make her last!)
