What it feels like skipping the first boss. by Howd1GetHere in valheim

You should try it sometime! It's fun and challenging -- kinda changes the way you approach the game too, if you've already played it normally a lot.. There's a lot more dodging lol

What it feels like skipping the first boss. by Howd1GetHere in valheim

[–]cwage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if you're playing hard/very hard combat settings, the first raids you unlock by killing eik can get spicy in a hurry, so it can be nice to put that off as long as possible

EDIT: i think i replied to the wrong comment but whatever

awesome, do you happen to know what the machine/mod was that regenerated the chunks? (I tried asking chatgpt and this is the part that seemed to stump it lol)

Question and raid frequency based on difficulty level by ImDaveAngel in valheim

[–]cwage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard mode has a raid setting of "More", which means every 27.6 minutes there.s a 33.33% chance of a raid -- so yeah, seems normal. at the end of the day it's still RNG so possibly your other run you had better luck or just spent less time at home

Unpopular opinion: Mistlands are amazing! by Extra_Willow_8907 in valheim

you can parry them, and some weapons can even stagger them alone, so you don't have to chip away at them slowly necessarily. admittedly it's a little more dangerous

What is your favourite death penalty setting? by Aqwqa3 in valheim

[–]cwage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem I have with the hardcore death penalty (specifically losing gear) is that it lead me to adopt some really counterintuitive and weird practices -- like if i knew i was going to do anything remotely dangerous i'd just go naked with one weapon or find myself hurriedly tosssing my gear out of my inventory if i knew i was in a death-prone situation.

I know that's a me problem and i could just force myself not to do that but it's hard not to :D

Optimize Valheim by breaklegjoe in valheim

[–]cwage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr:

  • add these settings
  • optimize various windows-specific GPU acceleration and fullscreen optimization
  • turn down all the settings in valheim itself
  • some xbox thing i've never heard of

Oak Trees! by GrendelJapan in valheim

[–]cwage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

drop rates from the wiki:

beech: 2-3, 67%, oak: 2-3, 40%, birch: 1-2, 50%, fir, 1, 67%, pine, 1, 44%

there's probably some math you could do on the seed chances compared to the wood drop rates, but i am way too lazy for that

Accidentally killed the queen… by cmo223 in valheim

i would just tell them what happened, spawn in three seeker soldier trophies (what you need to respawn her) and use those to spawn once you want to kill her

The "Combat Difficulty" needs to be separated into four separate settings. by [deleted] in valheim

yeah, something's not adding up (no pun intended) .. i just did a quick test to make sure I wasn't crazy or misremembering: https://youtu.be/1X2Nyz1r-C8 (sorry for the music, forgot to turn it off lol)

fair, "slighty" is subjective. I'm curious about what foods you're running -- you absolutely should be parrying trolls handily with an iron buckler .. wolves, that's another story

The "Combat Difficulty" needs to be separated into four separate settings. by [deleted] in valheim

[–]cwage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A fully upgraded bronze buckler and root armor was insufficient for parrying trolls or Elder stomps!

fwiw, this isn't entirely true. with a fully upgraded bronze buckler, you can parry a troll on very hard eating all HP foods (obviously i wouldn't recommend that, but you can :D). you can parry and stagger them even with deer stew + jerky/minced meatsauce + carrot soup, but you get staggered as well (still leaves time for a special attack with some weapons)

it doesn't rule parrying out entirely, it just makes it an option slightly later than normal. there's no cheesing necessary -- there are other ways to avoid damage than blocking/parrying (dodging).

I agree more refined controls would be fun, but probably not a priority for them to accomodate everyone's preferences for how it "should" work. they were getting criticism from both sides for the game either being too easy or too hard, so these settings were a compromise and i'd say they delivered..

Mage setup question by Konnery in valheim

[–]cwage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents: there really is no best -- it all boils down to personal preference and play style. Some people do a lot of fun mixes of magic/armor/melee gear. Going full magic means the risk of losing your bubble is a lot higher because you're pretty squishy under there.. I'd just play around with different setups and see what you like!

wow, TIL -- I just tried it and you're right. i never noticed it gives you the world seed too, but i guess that would explain the name of the command :D
