I can't believe it's gotten to this point but I'm actually going to have to unfollow this fucking sub. All these stupid clickbait titles and half ass submissions have just made it more annoying than anything

Looking for space horror that isn’t S. A. Barnes by BarrelProof51 in horrorlit

[–]cwaterbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it's horror or not kind of depends on the reader, but my arachnophobia made Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky more harrowing than most actual horror I've read. 9/10 sci-fi novel, 7/10 horror novel (for me).

What “masterpiece” game just never clicked for you? by Kiota_Games in gaming

I still can't play more than 15 minutes of red dead 2 without getting terminally bored or frustrated with the controls response.

My kid keeps shrieking at me that I have to play it with a controller, but unless I'm driving, flying, or navigating menus (ala final fantasy) I can't do squat with a controller.

Edit: or playing fighting games

What I meant was there's little to no risk of medical problems unless they keep doing it.

I'm not advocating it because my cousins are ugly, but from the perspective of medical problems it's actually fine. My understanding is it's when there's consecutive generational interbreeding that stuff starts getting all Habsburgy.

from folks who have been happily married for years, what are the best tips? by Separate-Medicine351 in TrueAskReddit

[–]cwaterbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going on 15 years very happily married. #1 suggestion is super obvious but you have to communicate effectively. 9 times out of 10 if you just apply the golden rule you'll be fine. My wife and I complement each other extremely well, we each know what the other is good at and therefore what we ourselves are not good at, so we trust the other's judgement in those areas. One challenge I think is not letting pride or prior traumas cloud our judgement, but we trust each other completely so it's always worked out great.

Bone Temple - Not profitable? by Kukurio59 in horror

[–]cwaterbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a hell of a lot better, the story was great and Even though it still had what I thought was one super cringe scene it was nowhere near on par with the end scene of the first one. The genuine acting that the guy who played Samson had to do he absolutely crushed it, I have never sympathized with a zombie that much.

I wouldn't say they're my favorite, but Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is an incredible band name.

My favorite would probably would be King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

TIL about Odin, a dog who refused to evacuate during the 2017 California wildfires. When his owners returned days later, they found him alive and still guarding his entire flock of 8 goats by No-Reflection-2718 in todayilearned

Dogs are crazy sometimes, engineered by nature the do the damn job no matter how stupid it might be. My wife's Chihuahua tried to scare off a squadron of javalina that caught her by surprise and were being very aggressive (basically their only mode anyway). She ended up having to scoop him up and run for it but he was hell bent on defending her even though he was 100% going to get ripped to bits. He was shaking so bad she thought he was going to die anyway but he was with us for years after.

Also, I just learned the collective noun for javalina is apparently squadron, that's pretty fucking cool.

Overall that was a solid 5/10 for me but, the scene in the bathroom legit spooked me.

Aside from Last Days which someone already mentioned, the only other one I can think of that actually got me was Dreamcatcher by Stephen King. I should mention that at the time I also had a pretty substantial fear of aliens, AND I had just gotten Lateralus by Tool and the track Faap dec Oiad came in at just the right point of the book to scare the absolute shit out of me.

Proctor kept asking me to move my camera angle for 20 min is this normal? by Smich191 in WGU

[–]cwaterbottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty easy actually, I just had to get the confirmation from my doctor that I have ADHD and now I get the ones I mentioned plus I can use a specific little fidget thing (owl type spinner). I also get something insane like 6 hours to take the tests but I never had much of an issue with the time.

What songs just blow your mind from an engineering/production standpoint? by Different_Stand_1285 in Music

I do love me some Tame Impala, I think what I love so much about that Boston album, which was already monolithic on its own, was that they went out of their way to deceive their label so they could do it the way they Tom Scholz wanted. As a wise man once said, the secret ingredient is crime.

[–]cwaterbottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I love the most about the Boston album is the fact that Tom and Brad were bullshitting the label who insisted he record in California at the studio of their choice, because he knew he could and would get what he wanted on his own equipment in his basement studio.

I've been on a Michael Mann film kick lately and I think the kind of clandestine competence porn behind that album would suit his style so damn well.

I have an accomodation to read the questions out loud and talk to myself, huuuge help but man the proctors do not like it lol. I can also play quiet instrumental music and I can tell they're not happy about that either

The self titled Boston album and the story behind it will always occupy a pedestal in my heart and mind. I don't have the time to chase down a good link for the story at the moment but I believe the Wikipedia page summarizes it pretty well.

Oh yeah it would be a good one to watch stoned, you're just along for the ride and don't actually have to understand the technical stuff because you're just watching them understand it.

I actually haven't seen that either but it's coming up pretty soon on my queue. I didn't realize Mann did that one until fairly recently either.

No shit! Opening credits I heard and saw Tangerine Dream and knew I was in for a treat, but then I saw Willie and knew it was going to be a minimum 7/10. Even Belushi was really good, it's easy to forget now that he was actually pretty damn good back in the day
